The greatest composer, performer, soloist, and conductor

by Akito on 9/7/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

The best concert that I’ve every been to. Three encores the last night of the new york tours. The food was ridiculously expensive and so were the tickets but every last cent was worth it. Truly a one in a lifetime experience.

    Had to go twice

by DragonBoy on 8/28/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

This was so on demand that it sold out 5 days in a row! Couldn’t resist and had to go twice. The program book sold out within the first two days, before I had gone. Bummer!

this concert is a core memory for me

by EJ on 8/25/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

This is probably one of my top 5 core life memories I will look back upon and tell people about - that I had the privilege to see Joe Hisaishi live at Radio City Music Hall. Cannot even begin to describe the shared camaraderie, wonder, reverence, and emotion in the room hearing Joe Hisaishi play his songs live. If Joe returns, I will definitely see him again.

    I would go again!

    by D. C. on 8/23/22

This concert was amazing. Joe Hisaishi did a wonderful job. I read he got covid about a week prior, so I was worried the event might be cancelled and he might not be feeling well. He was energetic and you can tell he loves what he does. He did a great job leading the orchestra and his smile is so precious! The staff at the venue were nice and the bathrooms were clean. Since it's a concert venue you are not allowed bring in your own water or food. A bottle of water there did cost $6... There was also merch for the concert, but I have to admit the merch looked look shirts you could find at Hot Topic. I didn't get anything. The concert is my favorite orchestra concert I have seen. I am not one who really cries at concerts, but to my surprise I cried here multiple times! I wasn't the only one either. The music was so beautiful. They did a great job of not only playing animations on the screen, but also showing Joe and the orchestra playing instruments. It was very cohesive and moving! I have watched clips from his concerts in Japan, I feel like he really delivered the experience here. The orchestra also did a wonderful job. The lead violinest was great as well as everyone else! Plus, they had two singers singing in Japanese in well (one being his daughter)! The music was extraordinary to hear live and sounded beautiful. Everyone was respecful. I have never applauded so much for a composer and an orchestra, but man... they all deserved it. Joe Hisaishi even ran back out to the stage multiple times as people were leaving and saying goodbye. Absolutely adorable and heartwarming! I would definitely go again even if nothing changed! Maybe I won't cry as much next time, if I go. I hope he comes back!!!

    Once in a lifetime

    by Meesoyummi on 8/22/22

I had an amazing time with my bf and his friend. I cried more times than expected. This concert takes the movie to another level of feels. I wish they had more merch when I saw the concert but it was sold out. I believe anyone who grew up watching the Ghibli movies will appreciate the concert except if you are a music snob. Go somewhere else.

    Amazing

by Holidayfan7294 on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

The concert itself was amazing, I’ve listened to his songs since I was little and it was surreal to be there! Radio City Music Hall is beautiful. However, they do require you to dump your water and pay for their $6 USD bottled water inside. I only bought popcorn as a snack so I can only write about that, but it was cold and stale and definitely not worth the price. Ushers were very helpful, washroom lines are expectedly and understandably long. Bathrooms were very clean and well kept. At another theatre I attended there was a signal to let people know when the show was restarting but during intermission maybe I didn’t notice it inside the bathroom but when I came out of the bathroom and headed to my seat the symphony had already begun and I had to wait. The performance was amazing although I did catch small hiccups maybe because I know these songs by heart, but my partner who wasn’t as familiar didn’t notice them. Overall very good experience and I would watch Joe again even if he played the same set.

I went the first night, and the last night

by Tean on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

My first night was a gift from my sister, so I went by myself. It was great, because I cried through the first night, so I was able to hold myself together on the second, which I brought my wife. Got shot, and several close call serving overseas, I told my love ones 16 years ago, if I made it alive, my wishes are to see Joe and coldplay. I saw coldplay 10 years ago, and now I can rest in peace.

by Kara on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

If you’re a fan of Joe Hisaishi’s music, or of the Ghibli films, or both, get yourself to one of his concerts. Stunningly beautiful, I had to keep myself from crying throughout. Once in a lifetime experience with this legend!

a great evening and extraordinary talent

by Rett on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

My dad and I loved the event and the talent was through the roof. We will definitely be back whenever Joe comes back this way. I would love an opportunity for an autograph or to hear Joe play the piano more. I loved the symphony and performers but I am learning piano primarily because of Joe's impact on me.

    Amazing and moving

by JennyL on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

Always wanted to see the maestro perform these master pieces. The seats were good, though resale prices were very expensive. It was a joyous experience, full of wonder and beauty. We enjoyed ourselves and hope to attend this concert again in the future.

    A magical experience!!!!!!!

by R0TT3NG1RL801 on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

This is a concert I will never forget. As a fan growing up listening to Joe Hisaishi's music, the live performance was very ethereal and emotional with every piece that was performed. I literally forgot that I was in New York for a moment. It was wonderful how a variety of pieces throughout all studio ghibli films were in the concert. I am truly honored to have met Hisaishi and attend his concert at least once in my lifetime. Would absolutely love to see his concert again if possible. Definitely recommend everyone to go to his concerts, it is a time worthy performance.

    Masterful Performance!!

by Ron on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

What an excellent concert!! Beautiful music with the perfect use of video to enhance the experience. The orchestra was really on this evening. The conductor was moving around and was fascinating to watch. Singers were well placed and spot on. Nothing could be done better!! I just wish they had had commemorative posters for the event. But a 5 star performance and experience !!

    Beautiful

by Delaney on 8/21/22Radio City Music Hall - New York

From start to finish, it was a truly amazing experience. The second Joe walked out, I literally started crying. I grew up watching Studio Ghibli films and this was my first concert, so I'm afraid the bar has been set extremely high now haha. The music was so beautiful; I had a really hard time getting myself to stop crying. He plays with so much passion, it was a treat to watch. He also mentioned that one of the women who came out to sing was his daughter and the crowd went NUTS. At the end he walked out and came back a few times, had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. He played my favorites which brought me a lot of joy. Overall 100/10 experience and I'm glad I could enjoy it without wearing a mask the entire time.
