Excellent music in a beautiful venue. Hissishi is a musical wonder. The orchestra, chorus and soloists were great. My only criticism is there are not enough women’s toilets.
Absolutely out of this world concert. I could watch it a 1000 times more and not get tired of it. The man is a genius. The music was so moving and emotional. Have the utmost respect for him and his team. Bravo
Joe Hisaishi was spectacular. We loved everyone's efforts in the performance and seeing the movies playing along with the Orchestra was fantastic. Our seats were amazing too at Radio City! We enjoyed it immensely and would go again!
Just meet my expectation after 2 years waiting in the 2nd half. The 1st half is something I don't understand. The overall concert missed a high-light point to burn audience's emotion. ... it is my own opinion, thx.
My friends and I loved hearing Joe Hisaishi play live. It was utterly magical. The concert must have been full of super fans like us because every chance we had, everyone was clapping, whistling, hooting and hollering for him. He’s a rock star now and I think he just ate it up lol
I'm a big fan of Joe and had dream about attending his concert since before pandemic. The venue is a plus, the acoustics are amazing, got moved to first row and couldn't have enough of it.
What a wonderful performance from start to very finish. After years of waiting, it was such a joy hearing a live concert once again being conducted by the composer himself. Thank you Hisaishi-san for coming to Toronto and collaborating with our TSO to make your music come alive again (and for being so gracious in giving us three encore pieces, was truly a treat!!). I hope you enjoyed Toronto as much as we loved having you!
Went to this show expecting that more of his famous studio Ghibli works would be included, as that was the main feature of the bio featured when buying tickets. However, he only played one suite from these films. To be clear, but they were still very good and enjoyable, but whoever is creating the description should make it clearer that his most famous works will not be the feature of the concert series.
Since I was around 7 years old, I fell in love with the Studio Ghibli movies and the music that Joe Hisaishi composed for them. Throughout high school, college, and grad school, I listened to his music almost daily while studying and I always dreamt of seeing him live. I finally got to do it at Meridian Hall in Toronto and it was definitely worth it. It was very easy to buy the tickets on Ticketmaster and the staff at Meridian Hall were incredible. Thank you!!
So grateful for the opportunity to listen to Joe Hisaishi’s works. Sitting in the balcony gave us a wonderful view of all the players. And even from that distance you could see Hisaishis big smiles and genuine pleasure to share the music they created.
Joe Hisaishi is a legend, I'm pleased I was able to see him at least once in my life, since I'm a big fan of Ghibli studio. I would have liked more pieces from ghibli's movies, but the symphonies were still realy good. And I though that the theater was a bit dull, no posters announcing the show for us to take pictures etc... Was a bit disappointed!
Incredible musicianship and made the concert seem intimate even with a large crowd. Most enthusiastic response I have every seen at an orchestra concert and for good reason! Fantastic!!
