  • Jimmy Vaughan and the Tilt Awhirl Band

    by Greekboy22$ on 7/15/25Antone's Nightclub - AustinRating: 5 out of 5

Been to Antones over the years too many times to count. Been to this current location dozens of times. Entry was easy as usual with the phone entry , but the venue should change its doors time instead of an hour before showtime, to 2 hours, enabling the crowd to enter, relax and a have a drink. Instead , it becomes stampede to get closest to the stage and the bar to order a drink. Vaughn and the band were the best I have seen them in recent years.

  • Music was excellent but should have started earlier.

Seating needs to be provided. Too hot in there . Should have started earlier.

  • You can call him Jimmie FUN!

    by YYMAN on 9/25/23Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Jimmie Vaughan a few times in the past 6-7 years and he is just fun to watch. He is always great, always looking like he's having as much of a good time as the audience and his band is amazing. The horn section really shines, and I love the stand up bass presence. Texas blues is happy blues! If you have a chance to catch Jimmie Vaughan live in concert - do yourself a favor and get some tickets.

  • A fun show in a very good venue

    by Mycle on 9/25/23Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

I was fortunate enough to have seen Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble back in the 80's. But I hadn't had an opportunity to see Jimmy Vaughan and his Tilt-a-Whirl band previously. Even though they are both different voiced players, they are/were both well seasoned Blues professionals. Jimmy dazzles in some of the lesser heard tunes from the 1950's and 1960's with familiar melodies and foot stompin' rhythms. The three piece horn section enlivened the memories and the bass player sounded really good on the stand up viol. During the well earned encore set they began playing some of the famous songs that Jimmy and Stevie gave us from the Family Style album. It was an additional treat that Jimmy first came out for the encore set and played a couple of songs from one of his first released records and a solo version of 6 Strings Down the poignant and sad tune about Stevie's passing penned by Aaron Neville. Even the venue, the Rialto Theatre for mid-September in Tucson, AZ could have been climatically less enjoyable but turned out to be just right and the seating was reasonably comfortable and spaced appropriately.

  • The Legend!

    by KOKO on 9/23/23Rialto Theatre-Tucson - TucsonRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the show! Mr. Vaughn, at 72 year old young after huge heart surgery coming off big tour with Eric Clapton, didn't give us "less important small town"vibe.... he gave a great long set with his tilt-a-whirl band. The sound was perfect, could hear all the nuances and lighting was amazing. The seating was way too tight.... we were packed like sardines. Mike and Steve's opening set was great, but we miss whole bands as opening show. Seems it's always solo or duo for these kind of shows, I've heart because drums take longer to pack up.... well, hire another guy and give us a full show, music should come first, not the convenience. The stuff was nice and polite, security was a little over zealous (come on, the average age was like upper 60's, none of us would / COULD jump on the stage...
