    The Roots

by Abby4568977 on 6/20/13Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

What a let-down. If I'd known I was purchasing tickets to come see The Roots do a rendition of Sweet Child o' Mine and a bunch of other songs that aren't theirs, I would have never bought a ticket!

    Jim James and THE ROOTS

by Leroy422 on 6/20/13Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

Jim James wishes he were Wayne Coyne. But The Flaming Lips are genuinely weird and twisted. James and co, on the other hand, embellish their generic wanker rock with little flourishes of "weird" but it feels like somebody took Hootie and smeared it with some nutella. Gross. The Roots who I had never seen but been a fan of really made up for the horrible rain and crappy opening act. They were fun and funny. They had a genuineness that resonated with the crowd and sent us into the night happy. Why they are even letting James on their stage is a mystery to me.

    Mind Blown

by VertigoBarclay on 6/20/13Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

The Roots were simply amazing and when Jim James joined them on stage, my face melted. Ending with "We All Shine On" made my year.

    Confused...

by SFNYC on 6/20/13Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

The billing said: an evening of collaborative performances. I must have read that wrong. We got 1hr of Jim James new album (no Roots), then 1hr of The Roots (no JJ). At the end we got an encore of a few cover songs from JJ w/ the roots. My problem was that I wouldn't have paid to see JJ do the new album or to see the Roots by themselves. I am a huge JJ fan but I do not love the new album. The Roots are extremely talented but a live show falls flat and gets a little repetitive. I thought it was a full night of collaborating. Not to mention pouring rain for first half of show. Nobody's fault. I just need to do more research next time. Bummer. Could have been a great night.

    The Roots were AWESOME!!

by Anonymous on 6/20/13Celebrate Brooklyn at the Prospect Park Bandshell - Brooklyn

I wish I could give this show 5 Stars, but the finale was boring. I was shocked that Jim James was the finale with The Roots. He was Boring halfway through his performance and for him to close the show instead of The Roots bringing down the house was disappointing. It should've been two separate performances.

    Morning jacket was amazing!!

by Samand on 5/14/13The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

I enjoyed Jim James along with my morning jacket far more amusing.Music before the show was downer, wasted all the groovy momentum I had before I walked in.Then comes the first performance, she was great but not for starting such a night,it was too slow and sad.The main performance, the music was too laud and distorted, maybe the place was too small for that band, but I could hardly hear Jim.His solo and slow performance was just as great as always.

    Jim James

by AtomFehr on 5/13/13The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

One of the best concerts I've ever been to, and I've been to many. Amazing combination of sound, showmanship and lights. I had a blast, and even got a little emotional during "I want a New Life." Can't wait to see MMJ.

    Disappointing

by Rmac on 5/13/13The Fonda Theater - Hollywood

Not sure if it was because we were siting in the balcony but the sound had a mid-range frequency that made my ears hurt. The show started off strong with the first 2 songs and then Jim started to stretch out the songs to fill the set. The jams took on a Sun Ra eliminate which mixed with the bad sound was just irritating. Since his solo album is such a chill groove oriented mix I thought the show was going to be the same. Don't get me wrong, I love a good jam and I love when My Morning Jacket stretch out and have fun but this night it didn't work. The acoustic numbers were great and the lighting was fantastic but overall not a great experience.

    jim james never disappoints

by janielou on 5/9/13House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

even if you've never heard of the man, you would probably agree that jim james puts on a spectacular show. he is charismatic on stage, personable with the crowd - a true human - and his voice is amazing. he sounded mystical and played several instruments fluidly. his band was fantastic as well, and you could definitely feel the positive energy and chemistry they all had together. beautiful show...simply majestic.

    Awesome until the encore

by mathdcarter on 4/25/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

For me it was all about the sound. Of course, rock shows are loud and I love it, but when the decibel level reaches a point where notes and instrumentation dynamics are indistinguishable, then it's no longer enjoyable. In this case, it was literally painful. The main chunk of the show was great. While I am picky and would've changed a few things about the mix, it felt pretty darn good. However, when they came back out for the encore, it was obvious that the front of house level had been cranked. Nothing sounded good. I couldn't distinguish words, guitar parts, or anything for that matter. However I had been sucked in to the main part of the show was gone. I love Jim James and I loved seeing him live. It just ended up being anti climatic for me because sound is so important... and the end of the show sounded painful.

    JIMMY!!!!!

by JLinus on 2/21/13Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Outstanding show. I've seen Jim James 14 times with MMJ and once with Monsters Of Folk and he just get's better and better every time I see him. He is just a remarkable front man or solo man or side man.
