About

JESSE COOK IN CONCERT:

Canadian guitarist Jesse Cook is one contemporary flamenco's most beloved acts, combining unparalleled guitar work with elements of world music and jazz on his elegant compositions. Possessing a deep, first-hand knowledge of gypsy musical traditions, Cook has earned himself opening slots for luminaries including B.B. King and Ray Charles, but it's his recent solo shows that have really turned heads. Whether he's showing off his furious finger-picking skills on "Tempest" or slowing things down with "Europa," fans can expect an unforgettable night of music at his 2014 tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Paris, Jesse Cook spent his early years moving between various European locales including the South of France and Barcelona. There, he was introduced to the sound of gypsy guitarists like Manitas de Plata, a discovery that proved formative as he developed his own flamenco-inspired playing style. After receiving extensive musical training in the US and Canada, Cook got his big break at the 1995 Catalina Jazz Festival, where his performance on a smaller stage was so well received that the festival's organizers moved him to the main stage. A few months later, his 1995 debut album Tempest landed at No. 14 in the US, kicking off extensive touring and setting the stage for 1996's gold-selling Gravity. With 11 Juno nominations to his name, Cook remains at the vanguard of nuevo flamenco, hitting the road once again in 2014 for a highly anticipated tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Cook is such a virtuoso guitarist that I feel he's up there with Clapton and Mark Knopfler -- but very different, of course -- and his combination of Flamenco and Spanish meshed into Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/Baltic is stunning. The musicians in his band are geniuses in their own right and together they form a very tight and talented unit."

"No glitz, no glamour, just 5 guys who can play the heck out of their instruments and have a lot of fun doing it. Jesse's storytelling between songs was funny in a genuine way."

"Concert was very entertaining. Not only was Jesse Cook amazing, his band members were very impressive and talented, playing various instruments."

Jesse Cook and his fabulous band

by Me Myself and I on 10/17/23Uptown Theatre Napa - Napa

Jesse Cook and his fabulous band ripped it up again. I’ve seen them 6-7 times over the past 30 years and every time I walk away in amazement. It’s been a little while since I’ve seen them last and he has a whole new group with him and I tell you they are fantastic. I can’t recommend him enough. Great evening with great people. Thank you.

    Excellent and joyful

by Jay on 10/16/23Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

First off, the Palace of Fine Arts was a wonderful venue. Loved the theater, the staff, the seats, and the stage. Most of all, Jesse Cook and his wonderful bandmates were absolutely incredibly wonderful. They were in tune with each other and the music. They interacted with the audience but not too much. They started on time and played a full set. The music was amazing. The show was the best I've seen in a very, very long time. They were humble and so thoroughly professional. Thanks for the wonderful experience. We bought the CDs available after the show and we have not stopped playing them since. I look forward to seeing you again when you come back to SF.

I've heard Jesse many many times, streaming! But, never live. He was great. He was charismatic, funny, and so talented. His band was spot on. It was an amazing escape for me and my wife to enjoy this show. A must-see event...

    Don't Miss This Masterful Performance!

by Melanie-E on 10/16/23Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Jesse Cook is at the top of his game and has surrounded himself with musicians who are equally talented with their respective instruments. His music is unlike anything I'd heard before and I was captivated from the first song--Tempest. He also puts on a good show, is gracious, funny, warm, and will ensure you leave the evening having not just enjoyed phenomenal musicality all evening, but that you had fun in the process. I had the fortuitous good timing to meet him once and he was genuinely nice and down to earth. I keep a handful of songs on continuous loop while I'm working or need a mood-shift. His music will transport you. Seeing someone so incredibly talented, especially as he's moved into his 50's is inspiring and affirming. MUST SEE!

    Hugely Entertaining

by Alameda Fan on 10/16/23Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

The band was fantastic. The venue was perfect -- I was seated in row G. I expected to hear music from his new album Libre, but the tunes were updated versions of his popular ones from early days. It was more than fine. I was happy to hear good music. There were 2 flamenco guitars, 1 bass guitar, drums, and a violin that was played by an Algerian (Arabic expressions).

    Jesse Cook Rocks!

by Lorenzo on 10/16/23Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

If you are fan of good music then a Jesse Cook concert should be on your radar. I just saw him for the second time live in concert at The Palace of Fine Arts and both times I was beyond overjoyed by his performance. Him and his band have a very informal approach to performing but they bring it full circle and put on a great performance. Can’t wait to see him again.

First time enjoyed his music at Yoshi’s in Oakland years ago. It was great. However, the concert at palace theater was beyond the expectation.

This is the 4th time I've taken my wife to see Jesse Cook and his band, and the shows get better each time. To those of you that left a few seats empty, you really missed out, and should be sure to get tickets the next time they're in town!

    The Pharaohs Would Be Pleased

by MusicLover on 10/7/23The Egyptian Theatre - Boise

Jesse Cook and his fellow performers did The Egyptian Theater proud. The music fit the venue -- rich, decadent and powerful. Loved how the show opened with Jesse adding his crew one by one. A perfect date night holding my loved-one's hand and getting lost in the wonderful music.

    Great flamenco/Moorish fusion!

by chasmopolitan on 10/6/23The Egyptian Theatre - Boise

It must be good when an audience gets up a dances. Jesse & his band delivered up a great multicultural slice of Mediterranean music. My only critique is that the Sound Man missed a few solos...
