Loved Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart. In this concert the majority of his songs had a heavy metal sound. I would have loved the performance if Jeff the band played a more melodious sound, like the music in Crazy Heart. He did open with 2 songs from that movie, but then moved into the heavy metal sound, closing with 2 more Crazy Heart songs. For an encore, he performed one more Crazy Heart selection, and then a song I hadn't heard before, a slower song to wind down the night.
The opening guitar-playing singer was a young guy named Mason who served as a "roadie" for Bridges, switching off the guitars Jeff needed, and plugging them in for amplification. Sorry, but I really did not like Mason's music, which he wrote himself. He had an appealing personality, but his music was inscrutable: you couldn't understand the words, and the sound was amateur and depressing.
Mason played for a half-hour, and then we waited another 15 minutes for Jeff Bridges to come on. I think from a performer of his caliber, I expected a professional's respect for the audience, rather than keep us waiting that long after an unsatisfying opening act. Bridges performed for one hour, and then another five or so minutes of encore music. All in all, I'll admit I was disappointed in the evening as a whole.
