    Awesome!

by kate2kate on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

I really enjoyed his concert, so awesome! He was laid back and friendly, I felt very comfortable during the concert. They played the songs from Crazy Heart and his new album. The songs for encore were great too!! I would definitely go to his concert again if he has a tour next year.

    too short

by Anonymous on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

The opening act was mediocre. Although the opener was a good guitarist, he couldn't sing and we had to sit through five songs. Then there was a 20 minute intermission (no advance warning) until finally Jeff came out at 8:50. Jeff and the Abiders were very entertaining and the individual performers were quite good, particularly the female fiddle player. It was a little odd that Jeff's daughter was onstage as a back-up vocalist for two songs, and then disappeared offstage only to reappear for the encore. We like Jeff Bridges because he comes across in his movies as a genuine person, and this quality showed through during this performance which gave the audience warm fuzzies, but it might be said that the overall tone of the concert was quite casual, and there was some confusion over which guitar to use and someone needed to find his pic. These are minor things. The biggest disappointment was the briefness of the concert. Just one hour.

Fun to see The Dude try to sing... but

by Steveed on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Being a fan of Mr. Bridges (Fab Baker Boys etc) and after enjoying his Academy Award performance in Crazy Heart I was hoping he'd be in the line of Kris Kristofferson et al. It was fun to see him and he played the part of an old crusty singer well. Fortunatly his back up band was terrific - especialy the fiddler and lead guitarist. His daughter gets props too for trying hard on back up. The song list was too long in the slow, heavy "it's late and I'm real sad" genre and could have been trimmed to be more effective. It was great though when they kicked it up tempo. The accordian/zydego added some bredth but was not used enough. Lead guitarist is very talented studio quality musician but the psycadellic licks used late were odd and felt a tad desperate. FIddler was incredible, could have watched just her all night. (or maybe I did). The simple production was meant to be personal and straight forward, I think, but it came off clunky and unrehursed, like it was just thrown together. Even their bows at the end felt cumbersome and akward. A producer or at least a good road manager is needed. His taking an admitted career change on the road is a ballsy move. I admire him for doing it. Hopefully he'll work out the kinks and make it more than an actor playing at being a musican. Change the song mix, add a few more up tempo tunes, and perhaps, add a talented unknown female singer with great pipes. Don't give up.

Bridges & The Abiders are working out the kinks

by rheimann on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

This is an early stop on the tour so the kinks are being worked out...the first show in Santa Barbara had the all star band members of T Bone Burnett and Buddy Miller who are not continuing...thank goodness that Carrie Rodriquez has joined the band...she really helps carry the show...entertaining show that will get better with more practice and stops...

    Jeff Bridges was just OK

by TeJe on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

His band was super talented, but Jeff Bridges himself was very average. He seemed out of it also....Like he was on something.

Jeff is great - The Abiders superb

by Taissa on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

The band, and Jeff were fantastic. The music part was excellent. Layed back and casual. My two favorite songs, and incredible jams between the talented musicians. The negative was the looooooooong intermission after Mason's opening act...why was this not announced? Why was the only intermission 20 minutes into the show? The band only played for about an hour (is $75 high for an hour's show? I don't do this often, so maybe I'm out of the loop on this) , so one may not have been necessary, but it would have been helpful to know this in advance. More lights at the Civic Center Theater. It was pitch black trying to find the car on the road by the lake. Other than that, a great show.

    Just Average

Loved Jeff Bridges in Crazy Heart. In this concert the majority of his songs had a heavy metal sound. I would have loved the performance if Jeff the band played a more melodious sound, like the music in Crazy Heart. He did open with 2 songs from that movie, but then moved into the heavy metal sound, closing with 2 more Crazy Heart songs. For an encore, he performed one more Crazy Heart selection, and then a song I hadn't heard before, a slower song to wind down the night. The opening guitar-playing singer was a young guy named Mason who served as a "roadie" for Bridges, switching off the guitars Jeff needed, and plugging them in for amplification. Sorry, but I really did not like Mason's music, which he wrote himself. He had an appealing personality, but his music was inscrutable: you couldn't understand the words, and the sound was amateur and depressing. Mason played for a half-hour, and then we waited another 15 minutes for Jeff Bridges to come on. I think from a performer of his caliber, I expected a professional's respect for the audience, rather than keep us waiting that long after an unsatisfying opening act. Bridges performed for one hour, and then another five or so minutes of encore music. All in all, I'll admit I was disappointed in the evening as a whole.

Jeff Bridges is a true gentleman!!

by Serum on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

My friends and I traveled from out of town for this show. One flew from LA and we drove from Eureka. While the show itself was wonderful, it was what happened afterward that made our night and entire trip, really. He played for a little over an hour, I think. The sound and songs were wonderful! The Abiders and Jeff himself were laid back yet professional. It was awesome to hear the wonderful songs from Crazy Heart and from Jeff's new release. He talked about all the people he'd played with and met and about becoming a grandfather. He's nicknamed himself "Dudepa". After the show, we headed 'round the back of the venue to try and meet Jeff and get our posters signed. When Jeff emerged from the side door, he headed for his car, causing instant panic but alas he said, "Be right back, I'm just going to put my stuff in here." One of my friends asked if she could shake Jeff's hand. He said sure and when my friend apologized for having cold hands, Jeff said, "Well let me warm them for you." and clasped his hand around hers. It was really very sweet. So yeah, Jeff is awesome! The Abiders are awesome! The fiddle player is superb!!! This will be one of those memories I treasure forever.

Jeff Bridges at Marin Center - Good but Low Key

by Fredopotato on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Good show. He's got a good voice and a sensational gal as back-up singer and violinist. She alone would be worth seeing. They put Mason, a young man(19) who is a stage hand up as the opening singing act which was cute and entertaining. Couldn't hear 80% of the lyrics but some of the self written tunes were OK. He did about twenty minutes which was fine. Bridges came out, finally about thirty minutes after the kid finished. The audience was starting to get impatient. I guess that's part of the diva in him. He did songs from Crazy Heart most of which were good. He didn't really engage the audience very much and he was a bit goofy picking the wrong guitar and such. All and all it was a good show. While the audience appreciated and applauded, they never really "rocked" the place. Oddly his daughter appeared as a back up singer for the first song or two and then disappeared until the encore. Was wierd. Not sure it was worth $75 per but glad I went.

    We adore this dude!

by Creedence on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

the show was great. we know all the Crazy Heart songs, and it was also so nice to hear some new ones that we'd never heard. I loved the one called Slow Boat. Jeff Bridges has an amazingly good voice, and he knows how to use it. the Abiders now have a violin added, and that girl fiddler is amazing!

    THE DUDE

by SCOTTIE209 on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

I enjoyed the music and the relaxed atmosphere of the show. The bass sound is not balanced well so that would improve the music for the audience. I liked the entire show and the abiders were a great and talented group. We hope to see Jeff Bridges again. The music from Crazy Heart was, of course, a huge hit with everyone. He is unpretentious and talented and it was just a wonderful evening of entertainment. Thank you to Jeff Bridges and the Abiders.

One of the Best shows ever!

by Demonoflight on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

From start to finish this show was amazing! Mason, the opening act was a young, energetic and fun musician with some great songs. It was a perfect segue to the show that was to follow. Jeff Bridges came out on stage and immediately i was blown away with just how cool he was, cool doesn't even seem like it does him justice. From the moment he came on stage you could tell he was having a good time, and it was infectious. The songs were warm and heartfelt, some fast, some slow. The Abiders were an amazing group of musicians from rocking guitar solos to a truly breathtaking violin performance. I wish i could have gone to all three of there performances. My only two possible regrets/criticisms if you could even call them that, are that mason didn't have a CD i could buy and that there were seats so i couldn't dance to the music as i so badly wanted to, Thanks guys for an amazing show, i hope there are many more to come.

    Jeff Bridges "The Dude"

by padv on 8/26/11Marin Veterans' Memorial Auditorium At Marin Center - San Rafael

Jeff made us feel like we were in a private party listening to him sing and play guitar. I loved that he had his own daughter singing back-up. He is so familiar with being on stage and it shows with his music. He is comfortable and at ease.
