After Set It Off, Johnson had to come with the funk in order to top it. It was a great show. I thought the casting was done well, the length of the show, the historical accuracy.... It was great fun and had multiple generations singing and dancing in the aisles. We can't wait for the next production! I would've paid to go back again and take more people but STL was the 2nd to last stop. Bravo
The actresses and actors were outstanding, they brought Rick James life alive. I would love to see more plays about our legends.
The cast was great and so was the show, early mother's Day gift for my mom and she had a blast. Stokley was exceptional!!
This was an amazing show! It started on time, which is something I appreciate. The set design was impeccable. The story was raw and real. They didn’t shy away from Rick James’ drug use and also didn’t undercut his success, while still telling the story of his downfall and resurgence. I had forgotten how many amazing songs he created and I also didn’t realize that MC Hammer sampled Super Freak. This was a great story about determination, success, triumph and loss. I wish he would have lived longer, but I’m thankful for the memories. This show deserves to be a movie!

The show was soooo good! Exceeded my expectations. Stokely was phenomenal as Rick James! I loved how they allowed him to stay true to the character and the songs, but then put a little of his Stokely swag on the vocals! It was totally the best of both worlds! Rick James songs sung by one of the best R&B vocalist of our time, Stokely! Also, I loved how the play included features of so many others that were impacted by Rick James. (Prince, The Temptations, Tina Marie, Mary Jane Girls, MC Hammer, etc.) We had so much fun during the show! So many people were not aware of the show, so hopefully they will invest in additional/better promotions in the future. This show was too good to go under the radar, and not be experienced by many more people.
I was very disappointed that I was not provided a program for the play. I like to read about the actors and see the song list etc. When I saw the stage, there wasn't much on it and I was thinking oh no. But once the show began and the further you got into the show, everything came together. They used projected images for the background and I am usually not a fan of that but the colors and images were fantastic. The acting and singing was superb. It ran the gamut from sad to funny. I learned things that I didn't know about Rick James. I would definitely give the play 5 stars but the fact that I didn't have a program is the reason it gets 4 stars.
This was an AMAZING production! The music was great, the casting was excellent, and Stokely really was Rick James! The story was told with class, character, and integrity. Bravo!
The show was fantastic! It starts out a little slow, but baby when he goes to Africa it’s on and popping!!! The storyline was like a history lesson and the talent was recess! Thank you for an amazing night out! I recommend that everyone finds time to see it!
