About

Writer/Director/Producer Je’Caryous Johnson who brought you the sold out hit play, “Married But Single” and the hilarious romantic comedy, “Two Can Play That Game” is back with another one – Je’Caryous Johnson presents SET IT OFF based on the hit iconic movie by the same name. Fans will get to relive the ride that made them love SET IT OFF the movie, but this time around they will experience it LIVE ON STAGE.
The hit heist, cult classic movie you love is now a stage play and coming to your city. The same iconic characters – Frankie, Tisean (T.T.), Stoney and Cleo are back bringing the same action packed, adrenaline filled robbery scenes and emotionally charged antics against an equally exciting music soundtrack that will have you on the edge of your seat. Multi–platinum selling rapper DA BRAT will be starring as Cleopatra “CLEO” Sims, the role originally played by Queen Latifah in the movie. Fans will recall SET IT OFF centers on four childhood friends who spent a lifetime struggling to move away from the mean streets of their neighborhood. The system stole their dreams and now the four are determined to steal them back. With their world in turmoil and their backs against the wall, they decide to seek their fortune - literally. Targeting the banks of Los Angeles, Cleo, Stony, Tisean (T.T.) and Frankie rob the city's most vulnerable financial institutions. Flush with cash, they discover that mo’ money equals mo’ problems.

  • Great time

by Melly on 11/23/21Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I loved the play... It was well done and the acting was superb!! All of the actors were great in their role but da Brat singing took it to another level. Thank you. My only compliant was that although the she started 1/2 hitt late, there were plenty of latecomers that disrupted my view as the scrambled in looking for their seats.. Not good. Anyone that late should not be let in until intermission.

  • Loved it!

I truly was happy to see the touches of modern day humor they added to the play. I expected it to be completely in line with the movie. This was great! The cast killed it! Cleo, YAAAS! I was truly looking forward to Da Brat and she delivered 110%. Plus she was blinding the audience with that rock on her finger lol. Happy for you girl! Stoney, Wow! I thought it was Jada herself at times and the vocals, nothing short of Amazing!! You ladies did amazing!

it was a Set if Off experience, i thought that the production could have been better, the Brat Killed it, as well as the rest of actors. we did enjoy our self and it was worth the money. looking forward to coming back again.

  • Leave a Classic Movie Alone

by Gilligan's Isle on 11/22/21Orpheum Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 1 out of 5

I really wanted to enjoy this reimagining of a loved classic movie, but I did NOT. It was a poorly executed attempt. It wasn’t the actors fault (there were brief moments of laughter thanks to the actors or ridiculousness). The actors did their best with the material and production they were given It was a very disappointing attempt and I wish they had not. The stage play script followed too closely with the movie version and the play did not improve upon nor add anything. It was pointless. I say skip this and continue to enjoy the greatness of the movie.

  • fun show

    by h2oflow on 11/22/21Bruton Theatre - DallasRating: 4 out of 5

I definitely enjoyed Set It Off. Good fun to see the movie on stage. Could use that little extra umph to take it to the next level. Maybe 3 or 4 characters that each have enough gravitas to carry a scene and can play great off each other.

  • Excellent

It was funny and entertaining all of the actresses and actors did a very good job

  • Horrible

I will not pay good money to attend anymore Je'Caryous Johnson events. I really want my money back for this event. The event was supposed to start and 8 p.m. and started at 8:30 p.m. Folks were still coming in late. Patrons around me were talking out loud. The sound at the venue was horrible. Folks should be allowed to bring in food to an event. We left at intermission!

  • Absolutely Phenomenal

This was the best play I’ve ever attended. I play on attending the New Jack City play as well. We will have to travel to see it so that tells you we anticipate a phenomenal show.

    by Ohjoy76 on 11/22/21Bruton Theatre - DallasRating: 5 out of 5

It was much better than I expected. I am normally used to plays with singing but this show was still entertaining. I was disappointed that Keshia Knight Pulliam was not there but I still enjoyed the show. Da Brat stole the show as expected! The other ladies did a great job as well.
