Writer/Director/Producer Je’Caryous Johnson who brought you the sold out hit play, “Married But Single” and the hilarious romantic comedy, “Two Can Play That Game” is back with another one – Je’Caryous Johnson presents SET IT OFF based on the hit iconic movie by the same name. Fans will get to relive the ride that made them love SET IT OFF the movie, but this time around they will experience it LIVE ON STAGE.
The hit heist, cult classic movie you love is now a stage play and coming to your city. The same iconic characters – Frankie, Tisean (T.T.), Stoney and Cleo are back bringing the same action packed, adrenaline filled robbery scenes and emotionally charged antics against an equally exciting music soundtrack that will have you on the edge of your seat. Multi–platinum selling rapper DA BRAT will be starring as Cleopatra “CLEO” Sims, the role originally played by Queen Latifah in the movie. Fans will recall SET IT OFF centers on four childhood friends who spent a lifetime struggling to move away from the mean streets of their neighborhood. The system stole their dreams and now the four are determined to steal them back. With their world in turmoil and their backs against the wall, they decide to seek their fortune - literally. Targeting the banks of Los Angeles, Cleo, Stony, Tisean (T.T.) and Frankie rob the city's most vulnerable financial institutions. Flush with cash, they discover that mo’ money equals mo’ problems.
Well worth the money. I think this was one of the best plays I’ve seen in a while. Awesome job creators and cast!
JaCaryous, you and your team did it again. There were some surprising twists in how you managed to capture the true likeness to the movie and the cast were spot on. The few improv moments and/or slips were mastered by the cast and even added more spice to the show. That proves the brilliance each of them have with their craft. So another thumbs up to you and your crew. It's on my bucket list to take some of your classes and to be a cast member in one of your plays. I've been following since you and your brother started so I'm definitely a supported. There were a few negatives/unpleasable moments on the night I attended: An altercation irrupted in the mezzanine section, audience right side (opposite side) but the crowd was a bit loud and disruptive. Even when the ushers and security came to escort the offenders out, the crowd began cheering and clapping however the play was going on. Not to mention the hagglers/commentators during the play. Though I understand the passion and energy that goes into experiencing such an emotionally driven show (especially during these days of inexcusable brutality and racial inequality, etc.), there should still be a level of grace, respect and behavior for the craft of entertainment. Also, Da Brat's death scene was outstanding and truly captured the toughness of the character. She was truly entertaining. I didn't realize how comical she is. Overall, to all involved, GREAT JOB!!! See you at the next one! Safe travels
I was late due to parking, but the minute I sat down, I LOVED IT!! Every actor was on point! I loved Da Brat as Cleo!! And the best part was Cleo's death scene. Loved it!!
The play was nothing short of AMAZING! I took my mom for her birthday and we weren't disappointed. Da Brat stole the show with her performance...and Letoya Luckett represented H-town the fullest. The rest of the cast did a phenomenal job as well. Hats off the writer and producer of this play! THEY DID THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DA BRAT did DAT! SET IF OFF WAS OFF DA CHAIN! Definitely a must see.
The play was good from what I could hear. I was in the mezzanine area and people were loud making it hard to hear. Some females decided to fight which caused a loud commotion distracting the play. I was very disappointed I spent my hard earned money on something I could not fully enjoy. I am handicapped and had to park really far away. Climb numerous steps causing me to miss the first 40 min of the play. The accomdations were not conducive for people with medical issues. Elevators tied up by people who were to lazy to walk the stairs.
Set it Off was everything I thought it would be. GREAT JOB cast
Surprisingly it was really close to the actual movie I enjoyed it. Great job!
Great performance! I definitely have reccommended to friends.
The cast was amazing!! It’s a must see! Thanks for recreating this epic film.
Omg the play was amazing. Everyone did such an awesome job. I’ve never been to a play before and didn’t think I would be that much into it but I definitely was wrong. Only annoying part was when the females in the audience decided they wanted to be an interruption and start fussing but other that it’s a must see
I loved it.. it was like I was watching the movie.
Just like I remembered it..... But with a funny spin on it...all the acting was great...ill see it again
Very entertaining from beginning to end! Just as good as the movie!
This play was phenomenal! Each character embodied the original character. I would go see it again if possible. I am proud of everyone however Da Brat stole the show! You ladies were great!
Excellent job. Very close to the original movie. Great choice of cast.
Simply amazing great show!! I would go see it again.
Awesome play! It did not disappoint. Everyone played their roles. And The Brat, she stole the show! Kudos to all who played a part in making the play a success.
The show was pretty good. Everyone was good but Kyla Pratt. She was not good in her role. The show followed the movie for the most part. There were some funny parts. It was not as good as the expense though. It is hard to recreate a movie though. The state set up was great!
The performance was good. The audience was OUT OF ORDER for the Friday night showing.. loud, rude to the cast, at times couldn’t hear what the performers were saying or singing. I guess I should have picked a different night to attend the play.
