What is the deal with not opening the doors till 7:50 for an 8:00 start time? We're standing in line in downtown Stockton for God's sake!
I have always loved the music of Wynton Marsalis, and now also admire his support of and interaction with his orchestra.
Very talented musicians. I wish Wynton would have showcased himself more though.
We loved it and the theatre is beautiful from above. Wow ceiling.
Outstanding polished performance. A well oiled machine! The obvious practice that goes into a performance like that was well on display.
Mr. Marsalis and his Jazz Combo were fantastic. My college-age sons and I were amazed at the incredible musicianship the group has had for 25 years. Mr. Marsalis made us, the audience feel like we were in a more intimate setting. He was so friendly and funny! One of his band, Ted Nash brought his 85 yr. dad to play a sax/trombone duet that Nash wrote. Marsalis let us know his group is made up of musician's/music teacher sons.
Marsalis is a legend, and with good reason. He is one of the greatest players ever and probably the best living. The band is just as good.
From start to finish, the performance was wonderful. Each solo was unique and performed in a captivating way that got me hanging on every note and phrase. The arrangements were of such a variety that I was challenged to key into the theme and its variations. I was blown away by the quality of this performance.
This was ninety minutes of Jazz perfection. These musicians are as good as it gets individually. Yet they blend together better than any other jazz orchestra I have ever seen. They are not just a bunch of pros doing their own thing; this is a true jazz orchestra, innovative, expressive and very entertaining.
Fabulous musicians, tight compositions, very fine program.
good concert but not much interaction with audience
As much as I hate to say it, the show was disappointing. Unbelievable talent on stage, but they seemed to just go through the motions. They seemed bored and like they did not want to be there. Perhaps they had the flu or something. I play trumpet in a band as well and missed my own rehearsal to see the show. By half way through, I was wishing that I had gone to practice instead.
Awesome performance. Wynton is a genius. All the band members were showcased.
Amazing concert! Musicians at the top of their field. Seamless performance!!
The concert was even better than expected! And made a great birthday present for my son-in-law!!
Wynton Marsalis & Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra provided a well rounded selection of jazz tunes that highlighted each member's talents and delighted the appreciative audience again and again. Each tune had it's own vibe. Some sounded a bit like New Orleans jazz, others were bluesy, still others almost sounded like two people in the midst of an argument! We went to celebrate my husband's birthday & the band was celebrating their oldest member's birthday!
Wynton Marsalis and his orchestra were a class act. This was our first time seeing him in concert and we enjoyed every single minute. This is one concert I will always remember !
The Orchestra presented the multifaceted wonder of jazz. The perfect blend of sophistication and playfulness - what serious jazz is.
This event was great. The entire Jazz at Lincoln Center ensemble was amazing individually and as a whole. They played their own arrangements as wells as Miles Davis and Chick Corea, etc.... I had great seats, smack dab in the middle of the ensemble.
