About

Jay Z 4:44 Tour

Though his musical endeavors as an artist, label exec and producer provide the foundation for Jay-Z's empire, he's also a successful serial entrepreneur. He's made his mark in the fashion world with his Rocawear clothing line, and he's branched into the sports world -- first as a part owner of the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA, then as the owner of the Roc Nation sports and entertainment agency. As he rapped in one song, "I'm not a businessman / I'm a business, man."

Jay-Z's rise came from humble beginnings. He and his three siblings grew up in a housing project in Brooklyn's Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood, and he was raised by his single mother after his father left when he was 11 years old. His early lyrics refer to a life rife with gun violence and drug dealing, and he's claimed that he turned to hip hop as a way out of poverty.

Carter began to get noticed as a rapper in 1989, when he joined an older performer and mentor named Jaz-O to record a song titled "The Originators," which landed them on an episode of  Yo! MTV Raps. Around this time, Carter began to perform as Jay-Z out of respect for Jaz-O and as a nod to his childhood nickname "Jazzy."

After bouncing around in relative obscurity, Jay-Z and two friends, Damon Dash and Kareem Burke, took things into their own hands by creating their own label, Roc-A-Fella Records, in 1996. Jay-Z's first album, "Reasonable Doubt," was released that June, and immediately established him as a star-in-the-making.

From there, it seemed Jay-Z could do no wrong. He's sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, amassed 17 Grammy Awards, and has become known as one of the greatest rappers ever. He married Beyonce Knowles in 2008, and Forbes has ranked the pair Hollywood's top-earning couple.
Jay-Z's concerts regularly sell out, with fans scooping up tickets to see a true living legend who can command an audience with or without a huge stage production. In fact, his early Magna Carter shows were one of his most stripped-down productions, but nonetheless generated consistent raves from fans and critics alike.

    Jaw dropping amazing!!

by Willwee on 10/17/18BC Place - Vancouver

Unforgettable concert with outstanding elements such as the massive screen which spanned the width of the stadium floor, two catwalks with an elevated platform which rolled out to the end of the catwalk, fireworks and fire, and a four-level multi-compartmented stage for the musicians, backup singers, and double-jointed dancer. Only negative was having to wait two hours for the show (only had one opening duo band/singers who played for about 30 minutes). Got quite boring just sitting dormant for 90 minutes.

    ‘Yoncè & Hova

by Folarin on 10/14/18Mercedes-Benz Superdome - New Orleans

This was my first B & Hova concert in New Orleans. I went for the culture. It was lit from the minute they stepped onto the stage. It couldn’t have gotten any better. I wished I went to the first OTR concert.

    Amazing concert!

by Beyhova on 10/13/18State Farm Stadium - Glendale

They went on for 3 hours and I didn’t know DJ KHalid was going to be there! I was a huge fan of Beyonce and Jay Z before and I’m an even bigger fan now! Love that they have a scholarship to a high school student at the concert!

Not as good as their former shows

by amdub on 10/13/18CenturyLink Field - Seattle

I love JayZ and Beyonce, without a doubt but I felt like their show had too much going on this time around. It was all over the place, they didn't come out for 2hours(it was freezing with the open stadium and all) and the opening act was lackluster at best. The sound kept cutting out on our side of the stadium, not really a part of their performance but to spend that much money for tickets and to have the sound go out is terrible. I gave 3 stars because both of their performances are always amazing to watch, I just hope in the future they perform separately. I've traveled out of state to see her perform and it was by far the best event I've ever been to!

    Best Experience Ever!

by ToriDuval on 10/12/18Camping World Stadium - Orlando

Beyoncé is THE most talented performer alive! PERIOD! She starts the show strong and ends it even stronger. Her husband did an excellent job too. Beyoncé, next time you go on tour leave Jay home. We need more songs ;)

    What happened to Beyoncé?

by MissingYonce on 10/12/18CenturyLink Field - Seattle

This was a really good concert but it was nothing compared to Beyonce’s previous concert tour. The strength, energy, passion, and assertiveness that Beyoncé usually brings was quite lacking. I was looking for that woman’s empowerment convention and instead we got low key Beyoncé because her man was present. You know the girl that always changes to the more submissive and dotting version when her man is with her. Even the stage art display wasn’t as impressive as the last tour. I think it was replaced with endless videos of PDA. I am quite disappointed that we were deprived of that “Single Ladies” Lemonade tour and we got this instead. I would only see another Beyoncé concert if Jay Z wasn’t apart of it and I love my concerts! It also started way too late and ended late. Lastly, if you were on the sides of the arena at Centurylink, you missed a good portion of what was going on in the middle section of the stage. I paid too much money to miss a good chunk of it.

OTR11 was a well staged performance

by tennineeight on 10/11/18CenturyLink Field - Seattle

I love concerts at CenturyLink Stadium! The energy and audience participation is amazing! I was a bit disappointed with the acoustics. At times it sounded more like noise and less like music. I was also disappointed that Jay-Z and Beyoncé didn't start until 10pm. They should have had 2 opening acts as the gap between performances was too long. Possibly worked well for the venue as more people bought drinks to stay occupied and in the party mood, but that's not me. This review probably makes me sound old, and maybe so, but I am part of the demographic. Jay-Z and Beyoncé are fabulous performers and delivered an electric show!

    Jay-Z and Beyonce killed it

by Emadd on 10/10/18CenturyLink Field - Seattle

Great show, but they started really late - almost 10PM. Several people had to leave before the show ended because they started so late.

    An Evening with The Carters

by SoCalMary on 10/10/18Rose Bowl - Pasadena

Venue: Getting to Rose Bowl can be a little frustrating. There is often times a lot of traffic. I've done the ride share drop off and that was slightly less frustrating. I have a friend who just plans to arrive incredibly early and packs a picnic and makes a whole day of attending a show, at the Rose Bowl. On this visit they had a bag check area which appeared to have a very long line - they were really enforcing the bag restrictions on my visit. Once you find an entrance it goes by very quickly because they have a good amount of metal detectors and bag checkers at that point. I have been to this venue for another concert and they seem to have a lot of the same vendors. The atmosphere here is really fun. OTRII: AMAZING! Great show! They do a great job with production! If you aren't able to score floor seats to one of their OTRII shows it isn't too bad because their stage set up includes 2 catwalks and a portion of the stage that moves so you get fun views from all over.

Both Beyonce and Jay-Z were hits

    by Chicka48 on 10/9/18CenturyLink Field - Seattle

I expected this to be a Beyonce charged show but was truly amazed at how they made this show feature them individually and together without one super star overshadowing the other. In the end, Jay-Z showed me what a great rapper he was, Beyonce showed her all around performances as dancer, singer, wife, companion all shined through. Truly a show I am so glad to have gotten tickets to.
