JAMES BAY IN CONCERT:
British folk singer-songwriter James Bay is quickly making a name for himself with his gravelly voice, heartrending lyrics, and no-frills live performances. The fresh-faced young musician leverages minimal elements to maximum effect at his live shows, achieving big emotional impact with little more than his soulful voice and acoustic guitar. Whether he's belting out "When We Were On Fire" or encouraging fans to sing along to "Move Together", Bay's energy and charisma always make for a rousing concert experience ticket buyers won't soon forget.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
James Bay, born in Hitchin, UK, picked up his first guitar at age 11, teaching himself to play with the help of a CD-ROM guitar tutorial. He began writing pop songs in his teens, taking inspiration from artists like Eric Clapton and the Black Crowes while honing his own unique sound. In 2013 he released his acoustic debut EP The Dark of the Morning, an impressive collection of soulful folk recorded live at the Swamp in London. The album displayed his knack for penning sparse yet powerful songs, and artfully-crafted tunes like "Move Together" drew praise from critics and fans alike. Bay followed up in 2014 with the Let It Go EP, which featured a full backing band -- a development that has fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see Bay and Co. on their future tour dates. Previously, James Bay has played venues such as Irving Plaza in New York City and the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia.
This was my second time seeing James Bay at the Fox Theater in Oakland and it did not disappoint. I wouldn’t hesitate to see him again. The venue was gorgeous as well but the area isn’t the best.
Great voice. Happy to see him live again. Different parts of the venue have a different sound experience so it was good to move around
James Bay is an amazing artist! His voice carry so much emotions! I was so happy he came in Mtl! But the sound was so bad. MTelus is a small room, and it was jumpback so we were under the balcony in the back. I was able to talk with my friends as if we were in a restaurant. The band and music were also louder than his voice. And people had to tell everybody to shut up so we could hear him. Very disappointing.
James Bay gives an astounding performance so no complaints there. My only complaint is this venue. Some shows allow you sit or stand but this one seems to not offer that as they consider it to be a luxury. You have to pay the extra. Between that and the fact that a lot of the audience standing just talked then entire time really took away from the overall experience. James deserved better but also I’d see him again in concert. Not sure if I’d return to MTelus.

Fantastic gig by James Bay - he gets better every time we see him! After being blown away at the Danforth last year, his gig at History this year was even better. His fast-pace and energy, combined with his great musicianship, made for dance worthy, sing along songs, except for Scars, which silenced the whole audience - amazing!
Loved the concert!! Loved the venue!! It was an excellent evening at the History in Toronto. James Bay was great and the venue was perfect for his show.

James bay was truly a great experience. I will definitely be going again waiting in line outside was definitely worth it to be in the front history is a great venue in general. Definitely recommend going there and seeing him!!

such a memorable opener!! my friend’s first concert, we absolutely adored james bay. the girls in front of us and we were chanting for him when he came back for one of the songs. his live performances are arguably better than the studio versions, they r so raw and he puts so much energy into it
James Bay clearly loves what he does and gets deep into his song writing! The atmosphere at the 930 club was bananas. Everyone at the place knew every single word to his songs. I like the fact that me mentioned that there was a progression through the sad parts of his life and it got better when he got married and had his first child. So wholesome! He didn’t disappoint! Can’t wait for him to come back to DC :)
Love the 9:30 Club for shows like this. Just the right size. James Bay was amazing!! Great show. Excellent musicianship. Audience was a goid mix of people.
James Bay graced the stage at the 9:30 Club on a muggy Sunday night. It was the last show of this leg of his tour and he did not disappoint. He played songs that were old and new and occasionally through in some improv jams. The crowd sang along and gave back much of the energy that was coming from the stage. It was great to have him back since his last time in 2019. We all look forward to him returning in the future as he stated he would, as long as we want him back!!
Loved everything about this concert, from the opening act to the final bow from James Bay's band and crew. James played for about an hour and forty minutes and so many great songs were included. I hope he comes back to DC in the next year or so.
James is such an amazing performer. His energy on stage is great and you can tell how truly grateful he is for the fans that come to his shows. It's clear he loves his job. Any time James comes my way I will be there. I had such a good time.
His show was fantastic! He interacted with the crowd and seems like a beautiful person. You can tell he loves to perform. His energy was infectious. I'd give it 10 stars! I was even moved to tears during some songs. To see him live was an honor. I will be at every James Bay show when he is in my area. Wish I could travel to all his shows! LOVED IT!
