About

Jacob Collier In Concert

Jacob Collier has long had a voice and talent far beyond his years. The North London, England-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, producer, and all-around music theory prodigy has music in his blood — literally. Collier's mother, Susan, is a music teacher, conductor, and violinist at London's Royal Academy of Music, the same place his grandfather taught. As a kid, Jacob attended The Purcell School for Young Musicians and performed in productions of Mozart's The Magic Flute and Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw.

But it wasn't until Collier began experimenting on his own that his music career took off. At age 17, he began uploading complex music videos that showed every vocal and instrumental part of a song, including keys, strings, percussion, and even as many as 14 vocal harmonies. These impressive videos, featuring covers of songs by artists like Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, and George Gershwin, quickly went viral, enough to get the attention of legendary musician Quincy Jones. Around the same time, a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab began working with Collier on a one-man multimedia experience to capture all of his talents at once in a live setting.

By 2015, the then 20-year-old was ready to debut his technologically stunning show, featuring effects like 3D video loops and a vocal harmonizer, in London. Soon after, he took the show to Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival, where he opened for Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, and then onward to stages across the globe.

Already a master performer, Collier soon got to work on his debut album, In My Room, which came out in summer 2016. Just like his shows, the album was all Jacob — he wrote, arranged, played every instrument, and recorded the entire album on his own, all in his family's London home. The following year, two of the covers featured on the album, Stevie Wonder's "You and I" and ‘The Flintstones' theme song "Flintstones," won Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement.

After two-and-half grueling years on the road, including collaborations and performances with orchestras from around the world, Collier took time to work on his follow-up release. He announced that his second album would actually be a four-volume set, with the first volume, Djesse (Vol. 1) appearing in late 2018. Stay tuned for plenty more music from this unstoppable phenom.

    BEST CONCERT EVER

    by Andrew on 9/21/23

Attended Jacob Collier's concert in Costa Mesa and it was spectacular. Talk about engaging with an audience! He sang beautifully the entire time and made sure to include the audience in almost every piece he was performing. Beautiful arrangements and great backup vocals and performers.

    10/10 Show

    by urmum on 6/28/23

I saw him at the Segerstrom Theatre and he was incredible. His improvisation throughout the concert was jaw dropping, and he was so interactive with the crowd. Harmonies, Acoustics, everything was on point. If you get the chance to see him, it would be stupid not to go

Jacob is a very talented musician and performer.

by Skip on 6/16/23Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

The show had serious flaws. Jacob's wonderful voice was drowned out by the bass being turned up too high and by the mike by the drummer's bass drum being too loud. I did not enjoy any song when the drums were playing. It ruined the overall concert. When Jacob was playing solo the sound was wonderful and I enjoyed the songs.

    Most unique concert ever

by Mike on 6/15/23Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

Artists can sing all their different songs, but no concert will have such a unified dedicated fan base, nor a more unique and interesting performance

Best concert I’ve ever been to.

by Kirsten on 8/17/22The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Jacob live is a not-to-be-missed experience. On top of that, his band is incredible, truly first rate. Alita Moses might be the best singer I’ve ever heard. Last but not least, they all, including his crew, look like they’re having the time of their lives.

    Absolute awe & wonder!

by itsKeeks on 6/6/22History - Toronto

I literally don't have enough words to express how insanely good this concert was! Jacob Collier is a musical GENIUS! His entire team is absolutely talented! From the singers, to the media team and all the security, you guys really held it down. I don't usually go to concerts but this was one for the books for sure! The harmonies, the music and the lighting were spectacular. All I will say is if you have a chance to see Jacob Collier...DO IT. Buy the ticket and go! You won't regret a minute of it at all!!!!

    Wonderful time!

by Lec on 6/4/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Really great concert, not too crowded or hot. As a short person, I was able to find a spot near the front and was able to see everything clearly! This concert meant a lot and the warmth of the performers was felt. My only complaint about the venue is probably parking, but that is just Minneapolis for you. Great time overall!

    No seats

by Maggie on 5/26/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Ticketmaster sold the tickets with row and seat numbers, but it was standing room only. Very frustrating to get there and be surprised by that.

Best show I've seen in a very long time!!

by David K on 5/24/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

I took my twin boys to see Jacob Collier, as he's their favorite artist. The Wild Horse Saloon in Nashville was a perfect venue for the show, and Jacob Collier and his band put on an amazing show. As supremely talented as Jacob is, his band is incredible as well, and they put on a fabulous performance. We could not have been more impressed, inspired, and thankful for the experience we had. Thank you, Jacob Collier - and thanks to Ticketmaster as well!!

    Speechless.

by Miles on 5/24/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Jacob Collier is truly the Mozart of our generation. This concert proved that. I went into this concert thinking that it would be absolutely incredible, and it was someone 10 times better than I expected. Personally, I think that everyone in the world should have the opportunity to see him perform. Jacob is best musician in the world, an even better person, and his band is amazing too! If I could rate this experience a 6/5 stars, I would.

Best Show I've Ever Been To

by JMill on 5/24/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Jacob Collier's show was AMAZING!! There was audience participation and interaction, and the show was structured in a way that kept the audience engaged during lower energy pieces. Jacob never once left the stage for a break (though I don't think anyone would have faulted him for doing so after jumping around so much). He continued to perform while his band left the stage and it really gave the feeling that he is passionate about music and performing. Absolutely would go see him again and again.

    World-Class

by JT on 5/24/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Jacob Collier gave us a musical experience like no other. From the crew, to the band, to himself — it was obvious that the intent was for you to feel the music. Great show.

We’ve had these since they released, and it was definitely worth the wait! Jacob’s stage presence is next level and the whole band was completely in tune. 10/10 recommended and absolutely will see him again!

    Best ever.

by Jim on 5/23/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Transcendent . Best concert I have ever been to and I’m 65! Musically a genius and so connected to the crowd. Used the audience like another instrument! Pretty good singing crowd too in Nashville - probably half or more musicians I bet! The 16 minute improvisation on “ Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” was beyond description. Band was incredible as well. Cannot wait for the next tour and album!

Jacob Collier at the Wild Horse Saloon Nashville, TN

by Big Al on 5/23/22Wildhorse Saloon - Nashville

Best concert I’ve ever been to. Jacob Collier and his band were next level. It was a rollercoaster of energy and emotional. The high energy parts of the show gave me off the charts endorphins, and the down parts of the show were hauntingly amazing. Gave me goosebumps several times!!!

    Jacob Collierisis amazing

by DaveyWavey on 5/21/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

The Ashers and security staff were very helpful and professional. The Fillmore is a very clean and fun venue. Jacob Collier even amazing performance. He is so talented and has so much energy, and he project such good values. We really enjoyed the concert. My only complaint about the Fillmore is that if you were sitting in the balconies the air-conditioning ducks are right there and they can get pretty noisy, distracting from the beauty of the music. It would be great if they could put some acoustic ceiling or something in to reduce that.

Band was great - venue needs work

by Milkman, the Paperboy, and even TV on 5/21/22Fillmore Minneapolis - Minneapolis

Jacob, was, as his reputation precedes, exceptional. Alita Moses and the drummer (whose name I did not catch) stood out among the rest of the band. Exceptional vocal harmonies and clarity, great sound, potentially over the top lighting. The drummer made wonderful choices not to overplay even while some complicated metric modulations were taking place. Nice to hear such a dynamic act at such a large venue. I've been to shows at the Fillmore twice and there is some to love, and some to hate about this venue. It seems to have naturally great sound for shows like this. What it lacks is sightlines. I'm a giant, so no problem for me - my friends were sub 5'6" and had no prayer of seeing anything happening on stage from anywhere but the front row. Most of the balcony is VIP seating, so First Ave is the much better Minneapolis option if you want to see without forcing your way to the front. With GA tickets as expensive as they were, people need to have a fighting chance to see without having to pay even more. My small friend found a spot on a landing between stairs up to the balcony. They were told to move after a while by the venue, and other people took that spot and no one from the venue ever came back to check on things, and the new unwritten rule breakers were allowed to stay through the show. Paid $13 pre-tip for a Coors Light :| Definitely a little price gouging happening here. Overall, the Fillmore is one of the best sounding rooms in the Twin Cities, but reminiscent of the problems that plagued and doomed The Brick as far as bad sightlines. If you're demanding higher ticket prices than places like First Avenue, the Orpheum and the State, the experience can't be worse, and unfortunately it is. Doing away with the reservation of more than half the balcony for VIPs would go a long way towards improving the situation.
