About

Jacob Collier In Concert

Jacob Collier has long had a voice and talent far beyond his years. The North London, England-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, arranger, composer, producer, and all-around music theory prodigy has music in his blood — literally. Collier's mother, Susan, is a music teacher, conductor, and violinist at London's Royal Academy of Music, the same place his grandfather taught. As a kid, Jacob attended The Purcell School for Young Musicians and performed in productions of Mozart's The Magic Flute and Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw.

But it wasn't until Collier began experimenting on his own that his music career took off. At age 17, he began uploading complex music videos that showed every vocal and instrumental part of a song, including keys, strings, percussion, and even as many as 14 vocal harmonies. These impressive videos, featuring covers of songs by artists like Stevie Wonder, Burt Bacharach, and George Gershwin, quickly went viral, enough to get the attention of legendary musician Quincy Jones. Around the same time, a PhD student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab began working with Collier on a one-man multimedia experience to capture all of his talents at once in a live setting.

By 2015, the then 20-year-old was ready to debut his technologically stunning show, featuring effects like 3D video loops and a vocal harmonizer, in London. Soon after, he took the show to Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival, where he opened for Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, and then onward to stages across the globe.

Already a master performer, Collier soon got to work on his debut album, In My Room, which came out in summer 2016. Just like his shows, the album was all Jacob — he wrote, arranged, played every instrument, and recorded the entire album on his own, all in his family's London home. The following year, two of the covers featured on the album, Stevie Wonder's "You and I" and ‘The Flintstones' theme song "Flintstones," won Grammy Awards for Best Arrangement.

After two-and-half grueling years on the road, including collaborations and performances with orchestras from around the world, Collier took time to work on his follow-up release. He announced that his second album would actually be a four-volume set, with the first volume, Djesse (Vol. 1) appearing in late 2018. Stay tuned for plenty more music from this unstoppable phenom.

That Was One Of The Best Shows I’ve Been To!!

by Artofunk on 5/3/22The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Jacob is all that & more!! That was a two year wait which delivered more than what I imagined. When a artist has such an effect on his audience to bring them in harmony that’s beyond words & music, it’s magical, it’s felt, it can have a transcending response. The only thing I can ask for, wholeheartedly is this: Please Come Back To NC JC as a second round of this tour please!!! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😁

    Amazing...cannot recommend enough

by Flying J on 5/3/22The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

I was uncertain when I bought the tickets who exactly I was going to take: friend, date, or family. I brought my son, almost 15, with me to see the show. I learned about Jacob's work through Snarky Puppy, and I've seen a few Youtube videos of his music, and I've read the reviews--so I had some idea of what was in store. But to experience him live, and with my son, was truly an amazing and unforgettable experience. Jacob's interplay with the crowd (which was sometimes a rowdy one, it was Sat night and people were lively) was remarkable and uniquely interactive among the scores of live shows I've seen. His rendition of Going to Carolina in My Mind, improvised and unique to Charlotte's show (if I can take him at his word saying so), was simply stunning. I honestly believe this has contributed in a real way to what I hope is a lifelong love of musical performances I've tried to instill in my son. It is easily one of the top 5 shows I've ever seen, and I know I'll carry it as a special memory forever.

    Absolutely Stunning

by MBM on 5/3/22The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

This is quite possibly the best show I've ever been to. Every iteration of each song was just wonderful and unique, the instrumentation was amazing. And my god the singing at the end was so much fun!

I literally can't give too much positive feedback!

    Fans of DJ Herbie James

by Herbie on 4/30/22Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

The Jacob Collier Band / Tour was without doubt one of the most intelligent sounding with every one of the members of his group playing equal parts from Jacob right thru to the sound and light board crew. He will be on.of Those artists that will mentor musical greats to further successes and will also educate open minded audiences for decades to come. It took Me surviving a broken ankle, and Covid (*holding on to my pre-covid concert tickets, after being sold Out of past tours, Then they show up in My home town Fort Lauderdale. Thanks you Jacob for being such a musical monster. I look forward to the next time we share a "Vibe" together. Love all around. HerbieJames.

Great performer, not so good venue

by Jux on 4/30/22Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

I have to day Jacob is the bomb, but this venue fell short for his stardom. Visibility was really scarce, to the point that some people had to stare at a black wall and just hear the concert. The smell of weed took the whole place (it wasn’t rated and I saw children). The show was delayed for 1 hour and 15 minutes. I traveled 3 hours for this and was a bit disappointed. Great thing is that Jacob is out of this world and made it worth it, but I will not go back to that venue again.

    Amazing talent

by ahh on 4/30/22Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

A once in a lifetime musician. His music is so complex, though, that it appeals to the mind more than the ear at times. If he improves his ability to write melodies and hooks, he will become one of the all time greats.

    truly Jacobian

by elane <3 on 4/29/22House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

I already knew what a genius Jacob Collier was, but it was another level to see him in action. I went with my dad and it was really truly amazing. A great time and the venue was pretty much unlike anything I've ever been to! It was spacious but still intimate. It really emulated being in JC's room. 10/10 recommend.

by Sage on 4/29/22House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

It was amazing. Singing in the crowd while he was conducting was such a good feeling My favorite song waa ruined by being short in a crowd of tall people though. (Rip he won't hold you)

    Spectacular!

by DatGRaff on 4/27/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

Wow. Jacob Collier is one of the coolest performers ever. I loved his interaction with his fans and how he incorporated them into the show. I also loved the jokes he would tell and how he would tell stories on how a song was made. Another reason why I loved the show was how he improvised a song he’s never played ever. Hope to see him again in concert again!

    Incredible

by Ashley on 4/27/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

My partner is a big Jacob Collier fan so I got tickets for him. I only knew one song so I thought I would have an ok time for the rest. It was incredible!!! I had so much fun and cannot wait to see him again. His crowd work and control is some of the best I’ve ever seen. The musicians he is touring with are so very talented and really brought the whole show together. Jacob is a force to be reckoned with on the stage. He is flying all over the place and jumping around to different instruments. He is clearly one of the greatest musicians of our time. His ability to “break the rules” of music we hear every day is so beautiful and makes for interesting and one of a kind music. He has made a fan for life in me and I cannot wait for his next projects!!!

    Excellent Show, mediocre sound

by AP on 4/25/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Jacob and his band were magnificent as expected. Unfortunately, the bass and the kick drum were mixed so loud and reverberant that they drowned out any mid-range intricacies. And if Jacob's music is anything it is intricate. For the first half of the show the piano was barely audible. Luckily, there were plenty of moments when Jacob played without bass and drums and his and his bandmates' work was able to shine. Favorite moment: The encore when the band huddles around the park bench and sings In my Room with accompanied only by a bass ukulele, percussion and melodica.
