About

Jacob Banks In Concert

If London's Jacob Banks feels like he's losing himself on stage, he is, but he's also finding himself. He's losing himself in the emotions that he was going through when he wrote his songs, just as much as he's been finding himself on the journey from Nigerian-born immigrant to performer on the world's biggest stages like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Afropunk Festival. His gorgeous, husky baritone was on full display during his ‘Later...With Jools Holland' BBC Two television performance of "Unknown (to You)"; eyes closed, pensive, his voice ranging mightily. Backed by Jools himself on the grand piano, Banks was visibly digging deep to that original moment of heartache, longing, and self-discovery, while leaving it all out on the table. "My approach to being onstage is this: You've given me your time. Time is the only currency that matters to me. Money can be replaced, anything else can be replaced, but time, if you choose to come see me, if you choose to spend your 30 minutes or an hour or whatever it is, and you've given that time to me, I will put anything aside and give you a good show," Banks told NPR. While he has supported acts like Alicia Keys and Sam Smith in the past, his second headlining tour comes to the U.S. in 2019. Expect all the feels.

Jacob Banks Background

Born in Nigeria, Jacob Banks moved to Birmingham, England, when he was 13. He started making music at 20, and his dancehall-rhythm-tinged R&B bubbled up on three notable EPs, plus he was a featured singer on singles from Chase & Status and Wretch 32. In 2014, he became the first unsigned artist to appear on BBC Radio One's "Live Lounge," and he's an avant soul contemporary of acts like Seinabo Sey and Nao. He's claimed a number of placements on TV shows, and video games like FIFA 15 and Dirt 4. Banks signed to Interscope in 2018 and released his debut LP, ‘Village,' featuring the hit single "Chainsmoking" as well as tracks featuring Sey and Bibi Boureilly.

by Bimster on 10/23/229:30 CLUB - Washington

One of the best concerts of my life. While it started a little late, Meg Mac (the opening act) was fantastic. She has a wonderful voice. Jacob Banks’s performance was beautiful. Every song was beautifully sung. The guitarist and drummer were fantastic as well. 10/10. I will definitely see more of his concerts.

by Clg on 10/21/22Buckhead Theatre - Atlanta

Meg Mac and Jacob Banks were both really good. I was not familiar with either of their music. A friend referred them and I was so happy that I went. Looking forward to the next time.

by Sauce on 10/18/22The Echo Lounge & Music Hall - Dallas

Upgraded for early access but it could not be honored due to artist sound check. Jerry was a total rockstar and made sure we were taken care of. The venue is beautiful and Jacob Banks was phenomenal.

    Masterpiece!!!

by Wisdom on 10/12/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Imagining that Jacob Banks could be better live than on recordings is not hard to believe if you've seen videos of his live performances. What a tour de force!!! He brought it all! Vocals! Charisma! Stage presence! He left me satiated. I was completely engulfed in his performance. I daren't ask for an encore. He left it all on the stage. Took some friends who were less familiar with his music and they absolutely loved it too. 2nd time seeing him. Can't wait for the next! 😍❤

    Love him!!!

by Sabean on 10/12/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Jacob Banks was amazing as usual. The venue was beautiful. I sat in the mezzanine and the sound was great. Concerts post Covid do seem a bit tame in that I bought a seat for the option of sitting or standing but I guess now if you buy a seat you have to stay seated next time I’ll know to book general admission my niece will not like me but feel the vibe is way better connected with the artist when you are seated or standing with patrons that look like they’re having a good time and not just sitting in silence.

by Supwa on 10/11/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

I waited an entire YEAR to see Jacob Banks after the last concert was cancelled! This was an amazing show! Banks sings so soulfully! I heard the church in his words and raspy voice...Just took me there! Loved it and the opening act was a treat as well! Overall FANTABULOUS SHOW!

Artist was great, sound mixing was meh

by LL on 10/11/22The Wiltern - Los Angeles

Jacob was fantastic, but his set up was a little too bass heavy for his voice and the venue, so it was hard to understand and hear his singing with the type of clarity he deserves. Hopefully, other venues can do a better job during sound check to balance the sound better.

    Night to Remember

by Mirs on 10/10/22The Fillmore - San Francisco

The venue and staff did not disappoint, very friendly and respectful. The bartenders were quick and also friendly (who are these people?!) and Jacob, of course, was a total class act in every way and I can’t wait to see him live, again! The acoustics that the space allowed were amazing!

by Shanti on 10/8/22House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

Paid for VIP intrance, the employees were very friendly and welcoming, not to mention the actual show!! The venue was beautiful, nice and intimate. There was a delay starting, but that's understandable. Mac and Banks were both absolutely exquisite.

    Immersive

by Nick Name on 10/3/22Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

The way Jacob Banks emotes when he sings is hypnotizing; you get lost in the depth of expression. Someone so clearly born to embody music. The guitarist and drummer (in pursuit of their names) were a joy to watch. The three of them genuinely looked like they were having a great time which makes us have a great time. Jacob Banks' brief comments through the evening were very charming. Will be buying tickets to the next show for sure!
