About

Best known by the moniker Iron & Wine, Samuel Beam's stunning acoustic guitar and quiet voice once again made waves with the release of Ghost on Ghost, his fifth studio album. This largely experimental record delves into the supposedly disparate worlds of pop, R&B and jazz, meanwhile proving the singer's impressive versatility. The accompanying tour schedule included several appearances throughout the United States, as well as a handful in Australia. As usual, Iron & Wine showed no problems selling tickets, with fans anxious to experience both new singles and classic tracks. Ghost on Ghost came as a welcome followup to Kiss Each Other Clean, which similarly represented a departure from Beam's typical acoustic style.

Beam's musical endeavors as Iron & Wine began in 2002, when he released his first album, The Creek Drank The Cradle. This entire collection was recorded in Beam's home studio and mainly featured vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar and the banjo. Iron & Wine later followed up with Our Endless Numbered Days, which was recorded in a professional studio. Later albums included 2007's The Shepherd's Dog and the 2011 release Kiss Each Other Clean, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 charts. Following the release of these later albums, Beam took part in multiple concert series, showing off a live voice that was just as gentle as what fans had heard on their favorite Iron & Wine albums. Although a handful of different instruments are incorporated into the Ghost on Ghost promotional tour in hopes of better reflecting Beam's journey into jazz and pop, the same poignant feel of this brilliant musician's tracks is always maintained for the sake of dedicated listeners.

Iron and Wine was beautiful! The opener was awesome, and Sam Beam(I&W) was unbelievable,

  • Beautiful, funny, and unforgettable!

This was only my second concert, but it was absolutely amazing. He was making jokes, engaging the audience, and sounds even better live! I couldn't have been happier to go.

  • For one bearded man and a guitar, truly amazing

For one man playing I couldn't ask fort a better show. His lyrics came alive when he sang them. I would recommend him to anyone who enjoys good music. I will always see him when he comes again.

Iron & Wine was great as expected. I wasn't aware of the acoustic tour, but nonetheless it was unforgettable. The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall could've done some improvements with the viewing experience, but Sam Bean was perfect. General Admission standing room only. We stood off to the right of the stage near the entrance to the concessions. Definitely wouldn't recommend this location as a lot of people were talking during songs and the curtains they use to block the entrance were left open so the bright lights and tvs from the concession room was very distracting during the performance.

  • Awesome show!

by Piriko on 3/3/14Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - GainesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

People kept telling me that Iron and Wine wasn't good live and to that I say: shut up you probably saw him once from the very back of a Bonnaroo concert. The Phillips center was a great venue for him, great acoustics, great set-- I 100% recommend. His opener, Jesca Hoop, was equally incredible and both of them were such funny, charming people. If you have a chance to see either at the Phillips Center again (or really just a concert hall) go go go!

  • Excellent acoustics/Very intimate

by CamilaM on 3/3/14Culture Room - Ft LauderdaleRating: 4 out of 5

The size of the place was perfect for a great intimate concert experience with solo Samuel acoustic guitars. The opening act was nice and sweet.

did not care too much for the opening act but Sam was amazing

  • Sam Beam is incredible

by heroseal on 3/3/14Curtis M Phillips Center for Performing Arts - GainesvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Iron & Wine, the amazing Sam Beam, is a wonder to watch. His performance is certainly one I will never forget. As a student of the University of Florida, I was honored that he made our campus a venue. From letting the audience call out what seemed like endless favorite song requests to him saying, "Okay, I've decided a winner... me. I decide," with a nice laugh and starting on whatever the next perfect step of his flawless, impromptu set, it was such a great night.

  • Sam was good, Norva was not.

by ReginaldWalker on 3/2/14The Norva - NorfolkRating: 1 out of 5

Terrible venue for a folk singer. Most the people there were present only for the booze and their buddies. The background conversation made it impossible to hear the performer. The Norva would have been fine if the entertainers were so loud it drown out normal conversation. I missed out on Flogging Molly because of work, but that show probably would have been fine. Folk music though? Terrible place for Sam to play. Horrible show.

  • Iron and Wine was perfection :)

No set list but took requests from the audience. Jessca Hoop was great too :)

  • Could've listened to Sam Beam 'til the sun came up

by RadsMom on 2/26/14The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Iron & Wine last time they came--what a different set up this time! A few years ago there was a full band, with a much funkier/jazzier presentation. This time it was just Sam Beam, two guitars, two bottles of water, and a barstool--could not have imagined anything better. It felt just like a friend playing a crowded house show. The Secret Sisters opended, and all I wanted to do was hug them after every song. Such lovely souls, and what beautiful, flawless vocals! Love. Love. Love.

best performance I have ever seen. he is the most hilarious dude ever, and he has the most perfect voice and guitar skills. I swear I teared up when I heard him start to play. he will always be my favorite person. always. absolutely perfect. near the end I got droplets falling on me from the balcony, but that's the norva's issue.

Hands down the most amazing show I've attended. Sam Beam is phenomenal, so down to earth, and truly an incredible musician. Loved every second of the concert.

  • Iron and Wine!!!!

by froggycgl on 2/24/14The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5

Amazing show! I would pay to see them again right now if I could definitely a great time very poetic and just a peaceful night. Cell phones should be banned from all concerts people need to experience the beauty of live music without watching it play on their phones.

  • Would have been better if I could see

    by Luckylegend74 on 11/21/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 2 out of 5

Artist played a wide variety of his catalog, and attempted to give a big band feel to some of his classics. This approach worked on one or two songs but the majority of his more intimate titles were ruined by the big band sound. Furthermore, Ticket master did not advise that the Center Isle seats would be almost completely obstructed by vertical posts. I would have definitely made another selection if informed of the poor view from center seating. Despite the view the artist was still extremely pleasing to the "earballs" when he settled back into the intimate venue. Overall experience was not that great, but in retrospect the opening act was much better than expectation.

  • One of the BEST Concerts All Year!!

by convoyhelm on 11/14/13The Tabernacle - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Simply a fantastic evening. Sam et al. were terrific and even quirky Jessica Hoop provided a sweet opening act.

  • One of the bands I thought I'd not get to see live

    by bobvila401 on 11/14/13The Tabernacle - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Iron and Wine is one of the bands I thought I'd never get to see perform. When you do get the opportunity to see them in light of that one's expectations can be pretty high and they did not disappoint. A must see when they tour again!

  • by Bevs10 on 11/13/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 2 out of 5

I love Iron and Wine, but he needs to keep it simple. There was too much going on. The full band and back up singers made it feel like they were trying too hard. I like Iron and Wine because of the raw talent and emotion involved, not the "show" that they attempted to make happen. Individually, everyone was very talented, but it just felt like a bunch of separate pieces that wasn't organized very well.

  • ok show

by WallGazers on 11/13/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Iron & Wine was good….although we wish he would of played more songs with just him and his guitar. We felt the extras on the stage (horns, backup singers, etc) were a little too much. We loved the way he interacts and "handles" the audience. He's a quick witted & clever dude!

  • Iron & Wine with Jesca Hoop equals extraordinary

by LibbyHeff on 11/13/13Ryman Auditorium - NashvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The musicality and level of talent at this show was extremely high. Everyone on stage was on point. A real pleasure and a true treat.
