Loved the performance. Having moved recently from the LA area to the IE, we were gratified to find that fine arts culture is thriving in the Inland Empire. Talent is everywhere, kudos to the directors to nurture it here.
Inland Pacific Ballet's Nutcracker was totally enjoyable. They excel in story-telling. It seems that the directors chose story-telling over attention-getting bravura technical displays. The attention to detail execution of the staging was excellent, so that the corps de ballet scenes were critical to continuing to move the story-line forward. Kudos to the director in using younger pre-toe-shoe dancers in the performance. Their occasional wobble was easily offset by their eagerness, earnestness and devotion to story-telling. Also, the at times comic relief of the gum-drop dancers added to the warmth of the production. Both groups of young dancers gave evidence to the company's mission to grow the talents of their performers.
The success of that effort can be seen best in the strong tiger spirits of the ballerinas at all levels. The older ballerinas were strong dancers and world class athletes and the intermediate ones were moving in that direction.
The male danseurs did great work partnering their ballerinas, generously staying in the background and removing any need for hesitation or fear in their ballerinas.
The direction and choreography supported strong story-telling with the talent levels of the troupe. Better than seen in any other group (Bolshoi, Maryinsky, ABT, Portland, San Francisco, LA).
