Indiana Pacers History

The Pacers have a long history that goes back to 1967, when they were a member of the American Basketball Association. They dominated that league, making the ABA Finals five times in seven years and winning three championships. They joined the NBA in 1976, when the two leagues merged.

The Pacers initially struggled in the new league, qualifying for the playoffs just twice in the first 13 NBA seasons. But things began to turn around after they selected Reggie Miller with the No. 11 overall pick in the 1987 draft. Miller led the Pacers to the playoffs in his third season, which became a trend. They made the playoffs in 16 out of the next 17 seasons, nearly spanning Miller's entire Hall of Fame career, all of which he spent in Indiana.

The Pacers were not able to win a championship in that span, though they did advance to the NBA Finals in the 1999–2000 season. They lost in the finals in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers. After a rebuilding period through the late aughts, the team advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2013 and 2014 led by All-Star small forward Paul George, though they fell to Miami’s “Big Three” in back-to-back match-ups.

Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse

The Pacers moved into their current arena in 1999, when it was known as Conseco Fieldhouse. It has been called Gainbridge Fieldhouse since 2021 (after previously being called Bankers Life Fieldhouse from 2011 to 2021), and it's one of the few arenas in North America specifically designed to accommodate basketball. The Pacers share the arena with one other professional team, the Indiana Fever of the WNBA.

    AMAZING

    by dtb839324098 on 11/15/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

Awesome game, very nice arena. lots of fun stuff on concourse before game started (free caricature, meet a pacer mate, play games to win free stuff from bud light). just don't go to the rock bottom brewery downtown for dinner, it sucks. cheap parking (only $5 near arena)

Everything was great except for entering the game. At Conseco we were were not allowed to enter until 6 o clock when the game started at 7. I was unaware of this and thought i would be able to get there early, which I did, and watch the players warm up, which i was unable to do. Holding everyone in the lobby for 2 hours was very frustrating but after that everything was fine. The event was a lot of fun, good game, and lots of things to see.

    Pacers beat Celtics

by Woodgod on 11/15/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

I went in thinking the Pacers were going to have a hard time winning this game. I was pleasently surprised that they were very competative. They had a number of players score in double figures and were able to win convincingly.

    Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics

by JImED on 11/15/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

Conseco Fieldhouse is a great place to go to a game. My greatest disappointment---paying $93. per ticket, and having fairly good, but not great seats. A middle class family of 4 has to spend a fourtune to get descent seats, multiply the ticket price times four, then spend $10 for parking and $30 for the most modest of snacks, and one game easily can cost $500. This is very disheartening for people who love to go to games, but can't afford to do so.

    Boring

by Baldydune on 11/9/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

I'm glad we won, but this was a very boring game to watch. I would much rather see a Fever game; they are much more exciting and the fans get more involved.

Thank you for the ticket offer. My family had a great time! The seats were good and the autograph session was an added bonus. It didn't hurt that the Pacers won!

    Pacers

by lblovesiu on 11/7/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

The game was great but the balcony was freezing. I don't know how people stand it. Everyone including us had our coats on. It was like sitting in a wind tunnel.

    The game was awesome

    by jjjt5027 on 11/7/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

Thank you so much for the two pretty much complimentary tickets. I am a Youth Pastor and I used the tickets to get reaquainted with one of my youth. The night was a huge success. The other thing is the Pacers won. They are looking good. With the economy the way it is I truly appreciate the opportunity. Thanks again and the image of the Pacers in my opinion is looking better this year. I am impressed!

    Pacer's Snooze

by badboybear on 11/4/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

While at the game my son told me that our house is louder than the arena. It was rather boring and sloppy play. Just like watching players play one-on-one street ball. He asked to leave at the end of the third quarter.

Pacers, Pacers, Pacers lets get it together!!

    by nsw18 on 11/4/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

Great seats but they would have been even better had the Pacers won! Lets get it together its been too many years of saying we have a young team. Everyone on that team except a few have been in the league for a while and its time to start showing this city a basketball team we can be proud of. Dont get me wrong I love my Pacers but how do you expect support when you dont support each other. I seen a team of individuals playing for themselves and not supporting one another whether on the floor or sitting on the bench. Me as a fan can only due so much its up to the team to do the rest. Lets GO PACERS!!!!

Seats were fantastic - Pacers were cold cold cold

by Voodookitty on 11/4/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

We had free half court tickets in the Club section courtesy of Ticketmaster and the Pacers. That was wonderful. Conseco is a great venue! So I was excited to attend my first Pacer game of the season. New team - fresh start - there was hope. After our team's performance last night my hopes were dashed. These million dollar players were disorganized, sloppy, lethargic. There was no way these guys have 12-15 years of playing basketball under their belts. Where was the defense? Rebounds were nil. Shooting was completely off. I sure wish Reggie was still around. And I miss Slick.

    Pacer experience was great

by realfatdaddy on 11/2/09Conseco Fieldhouse - Indianapolis

Our experience at the Pacer game was great. This is our one game of the year and it was worth the money. We had great seats at a reasonable rate. Everyone we came in contact with at Conseco was very pleasant and courteous - even the fans around us. The time between timeouts and quarters kept our 7 year olds occupied. Looking forward to coming back next year.
