Excellent show; however singers / horn players mics were too loud. As a result the sound from their mics was distorted.

    True Talent!

by DawnATL on 5/29/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

The first half of the night was full of a local radio station LONG announcements from many many people (way too long ), and a talented opening act. But after intermission Incognito went on stage and played funky jazz for over an hour. It was beautiful music but beyond that they are great performers. Each musician looked like they were having the time of their life which filled the entire center. In between songs they spoke to the audience and explained their music and interacted with us. What fantastic performers!

    Music That Feeds The Soul

by ArtAngel44 on 5/28/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I have been a fan of Incognito since 1995, but had never seen Bluey and Company in concert, so when I stumbled across the online announcement of this Atlanta appearance, I jumped on the opportunity. Not knowing what to expect from the group, after 30 years, I had faith that I would not be disappointed. Returning Incognito vocalist, Maysa, and a surprise appearance by India Arie, with opening act, Khari Simmons, made the event a perfect storm of beauty, class and musicianship. Jean-Paul ‘Bluey’ Maunick and Incognito exceeded expectations. Frankly, there was an AMAZING display of vocals and technical skill, from every member of the ensemble, including (in my opinion) the most incredible trombone solo ever! There were many memorable moments, sprinkled with humor and intimate banter, involving history-laden back stories as preludes to songs -- telling their fans of the personal pain and triumphs which led to heartfelt compositions and lyrics. There is nothing more satisfying to musical connoisseurs than true talent perfoming at its highest level. As Bluey stated during a pause in the performance, “Real music feeds the soul”. He is a great chef, on par with Quincy Jones, and positively influenced by Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind & Fire, and other Musical Olympians. My only complaint would be the uneven sound engineering. After a perfect beginning of balanced vocals and instuments, there was an excessive increase in sound volume. It was as though the engineers were producing for an outdoor venue, instead of the intimate acoustics of Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. Suddenly, there was too much vibration bouncing off those walls, and the sound lost purity. (They turned the speakers all the way to “eleven” - which is great for heavy metal, but not for jazz funk, where musical clarity is more important. Regardless, of any minor complaints, this was one of the best shows I’ve ever experienced. And it was also a fund-raiser for Clark Atlanta University, which now possesses the ONLY jazz radio station in this market - WCLK. (The only remaining station in this market that dares to play “real music” to feed our souls. As I made my way to the parking lot...I was full.

Wonderful music, passionately played. Terrific vocalists and the selections were very enjoyable. WAAAAYYYYY too much talking on the intro to each piece. Just PLAY! Because of all the talking, the concert went quite late and on weeknights people have to get home, so they started leaving before it was over. Take all these things into consideration, please. Concerts here always have to start late because the parking situation is abysmal. Rethink, I beg you!

by IndyGrrl on 5/27/11Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

Incognito is an absolutely awesome band. The musicians and vocalist were fantastic. Incognito is a group of TRUE music professionals. Each performer was passionate and I can tell they were having a good time. The keyboard player was a show all by himself and very easy on the eyes :) I wished they could have performed another hour.
