About

In Flames in Concert

Among the forefathers of Swedish death metal, In Flames have been in the game for almost 30 years. Formed by guitarist Jesper Strömblad in 1990 as a side project from his other death metal band, Ceremonial Oath, In Flames would quickly become his main focus.

In 1993, Strömblad quit Ceremonial Oath to devote himself fully to his new enterprise. The same year, he recorded the band's first demo with its first official lineup, which featured Glenn Ljungström on guitar and Johan Larsson on bass (although the lineup has changed often since).

Their demo got them signed to Wrong Again records, who released the band's first album in 1994. Lunar Strain was a solid start for the band, giving them a place to start exploring melodic death metal in a real way. A year later, they released Subterranean EP, which gave them some notoriety with its aggressive speeds and soaring melodies — it caught the attention of esteemed metal label Nuclear Blast, who signed them.

On Nuclear Blast, In Flames was off to the races, continuing to release increasingly acclaimed music throughout the ‘90s and ‘00s. With 2002's Reroute to Remain, the band took a left turn and underwent a few substantial stylistic changes, including starting to use clean vocals and employing catchier hooks and choruses.

Their new music had a generally lighter feel, which helped them break through to the mainstream and gain a bigger fan base, They quickly blew up in the U.S. and were booked at Ozzfest. The album peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Independent Albums Chart. Going forward, they continued their new sound and their new music led them to the promised land. They went on to win four Grammis, the Swedish version of the Grammys.

    BTBAMFTW

by soxfan7179 on 10/4/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

I went to this show specifically to see Between The Buried And Me. I was pleasantly surprised by The Faceless. They played a good set. 3 Inches of Blood was interesting. I wouldn't ever go out of my way to see them, but their attempt to bring back 80's Hair Metal provided great amusement to everyone there. When BTBAM finally came on, the place became electric instantly, and they rocked the venue for the most phenomenal show I've ever seen. Paul Waggoner is without a doubt one of the most talented guitarists there is, and the vocalist still was able to play for a 50 minute set, with bronchitis. After they finished their set, I left the venue, knowing that I would never again witness a show that would top what I just saw.

In Flames: One of the most lovable live bands.

by Jetblacktowhite on 10/4/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

In Flames. They know how throw down and sell the crowd. Unbelievably friendly/funny and their set was well done. Would see them again in a heartbeat.

    Simply Awesome

by moongod on 10/4/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

Great show. Great lineup. Missed The Faceless. 3 Inches of Blood was awesome. BTBAM was super tight. Tommy Rogers said he had bronchitis but you wouldn't know it. In Flames was great and I was very happy with the set list even with the new garbage songs they played. It was an all ages show. Sad that 85% of the kids there knew nothing off anything pre Come Clarity. Jesper wasn't there and hopefully his recovery is going well.

    Kick ass concert!!! \m/

by dreamer66 on 10/4/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

"The Faceless" have potential, but the sound could've been better. at least where i was standing (where most people were standing too - in front of the stage), all i could hear was the rolling bass drum and "grawwrrrr grawwrrrr grawwrrrr hoooo". nonetheless, good band! "3 Inches of Blood" - impressive! i liked the music and their overall stage presence. i'm gonna look up some of their music. "Between the Buried and Me" - awesome!!! they were kick ass, and they really got the crowd moving. i'd love to see them live again. "In Flames" - these guys are just perfect!!! i've been waiting to watch them live, and finally i managed to see them in Boston. superb!!! the sound was great, both clean and distortion along with drums n vocals, lights were amazing and just right, and yeah, they played most of my fav. songs. these guys rule... \m/

    BTBAM should've headlined

by josh12 on 10/4/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

I'd never heard The Faceless or 3 Inches of Blood, but they did alright. BTBAM was incredible, and I left about four songs into In Flames' set.

    in flames boring!!!

by fireline on 10/4/09House of Blues Boston - Boston

It was my first time watching a concert in the House of Blues. The auditorium is awesome, and pretty much organized, which is extremely welcome. The three previous band made a good job, on their own styles, and kept people alive. Remarkable 3 inch of blood (they should be the first group of the night). Then came up the first dish, In Flames. They pretended to be maybe so cool, what it was vomiting. No songs from the first albums, but only from the last one. The sound ran perfectly, but no emotion in all the concert. The show extends only 1 hour and whatever, but it did seem it was eternal. Maybe they were tired, maybe in their kingdom, who knows. I expected more from these guys (one of my favorite groups)

In Flames, one of the best

by LightningArts on 10/4/09The Regency Ballroom - San Francisco

Here is the thing, I wasn't that thrrilled by the opening bands. So much that I don't even remember who they all were. I remember that the first one did little for me, the second sounded like cheesy metal, and the 3rd (Between the Buried and Me) was pretty good, and I give points for being a crazy growly singer playing the KEYBOARD of all things.. But In Flames made it all worth it. If I was judging them alone, it would be a 5 star. Because they blew the house down. I will most definitely be seeing them again when they come by. I just hope the opening bands are better next time! I took video of the show, for anyone that needs convincing.. just look below and navigate to the other videos

All 4 bands that played were really good. Between the Buried and Me were flawless and In Flames sparked so much energy in the crowd.

In Flames is an amazing band.

    by Rickus25 on 10/3/09Starland Ballroom - Sayreville

The band sounds amazing live. I had heard alot of their live stuff but never saw them live. They blew me away. It was a small venue which made it all the more better. They made it feel like a real genuine rock show. Not like they were just there to do a job and leave. Anders is hilarious and the entire band loves to interact with the crowd. Seeing them live at Starland Ballroom was amazing. I can't wait until they come back to the area.

    In Flames was great

by hereforthefun on 9/30/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

The Faceless was very good. 3 Inches of Blood was aweful. If you like 80s metal with the high-pitched vocals, you might like them; not my cup of tea. Between the Buried and Me was outstanding! I was very impressed and hope to see them again soon. The singer was very intense and all looked very into the music. In Flames was amazing of course. Definitely check them out if you've never seen them live. I saw them at HOB in 2006 and I have to say, I think that show was a little better. But there's no such thing as a bad metal show!

They saved it all for In Flames

by Hydrocodumb on 9/29/09House of Blues New Orleans - New Orleans

Ok, overall it was an awesome face melting metal show. However, I was dissappointed in the sound guys...it seems they only made In Flames sound good. The Faceless had a decent sound set up. Three Inches of Blood you could barely hear the singer. BTBAM you couldn't hear the singer too well or the guitars too great. But when In Flames comes on all of a sudden the sound is completely balanced and crisp. It may be the bands' equipment but I think it was the sound guys. It was still amazing!
