Absolutely loved Imogen Heap. I've been a big fan for years and this has been my first opportunity to see her live. Definitely worth it :]

Imogen Heap = Best Show Ever

by AGPA on 11/23/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I'll make it quick; if you like stadium events with theatrical light shows, projection screen monitors, explosions, heavy choreography, and booming echoing hallway sound, this show probably wouldn't have done much for you. If you like extraordinary individual performance, energetic enthusiasm, near-cosmic musicianship, inventiveness, crowd participation, and music that is unique to even the most apathetic hipster, this would have been your show. I don't think a review is necessary, if you've made it this far you're probably going to go to her show, but at the end of the day after having seen at least 2000 bands in my life, she is still one of the greatest musical performers out there, I recommend everyone see her at least once before you die.

I have seen a ton of concerts and this was by far one of the most innovative shows I have ever seen! She is so talented, watching her perform is like being invited inside of the head of a genius! This was one of my favorite shows I have ever seen- top 5!

    Imogen is inspiring

by Catran on 11/23/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Imogen's stage presence is warm, engaging, lovely, and downright sexy. The crowd loved her as evidenced from the comments and her witty responses. Her talent is immense and her singing is something I marvel at. She uses her voice as a percussive instrument and a lyrical storytelling muse. I would go see her again and again to see what magic would emerge from her live performance. I love the set with the transparent piano and the tree, not to mention her fabulous hair and "hairpiece". The mikes she and the other performers used were amazing tools to say the least. For such a computer oriented programmable performance, it was so organic in its presentation; talent abounds with her performance as well as that of her fellow musicians. I feel inspired and I will look to see her when she returns in April. Thank you Imogen!!

    As always, she outdoes herself!

by Meglet on 11/23/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

I can't even begin to describe how great Imogen's concerts are. You can expect an intense wholly original experience with her voice, her personality and her style of music. This is Imogen in her raw form without the studio to smooth things to perfection and somehow that makes her music even more evocative. I love seeing the songs I love of hers morph and transform into something new at her concerts. Now some particulars: First off, since a lot of her music is electronic or mixed electronically one might think she uses prerecordings...hardly! She actually mixes every song on the spot using her wrist mics, instruments, the sound of her voice...she mixes and sings on the spot making each song different from the CD recordings we're used to. That alone takes amazing skill. Another thing that has impressed me two times now was her choice in opening acts. They compliment her so well and then participate in her show as back up mixers and guitar/drums players. Absolutely amazing. Yet another thing that impresses me is the use of light and set in her show. Whomever is in charge of lighting the set for each of her songs is brilliant, setting off the songs visually but not overwhelmingly. The set is gorgeous, as always, with some of her instruments even hanging from the branches of the giant tree center stage. Overall the concert was the best experience I've had AT a concert. I can't wait for her to be back in April! I know she'll outdo herself again!

    Imogen Heap was AMAZING

    by Nanners63 on 11/23/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

We sat back, relaxed and enjoyed ALL of her new music with aw and amazement! We did not listen to her new music until we saw the show as to hear it for the first time LIVE. When it came time for her to go back in time she was flawless. I took my two teens and one of their freind's and we all LOVE her and are considering seeing her again in April. We can now go purchase the new cd!

Very talented musician with a very enjoyable show.

    by mobius8 on 11/23/09Variety Playhouse - Atlanta

Imogen is a very quirky performer. If you have ever seen Tori Amos perform then you will notice similar strange stories, odd sounds, and comments made under her breath seemingly to herself. She is very talented and makes good use of layered digital audio loops, a technique that I always enjoy. What this does is allow a single performer to give the audio experience of several performers by recording short digital tracks of various sounds while on stage and then looping them one over another. I really enjoyed her music, her performing talent, her personality, and humor. I would highly recommend her show and plan to go again next time she is in the area. I also hung around after the show and she was very kind to come out and speak with her fans, give hugs, take pictures, and sign autographs.

    No beauty in this breakdown

by nicatnite on 11/21/09The Music Box @ The Fonda - Hollywood

Let me preface this review by stating that Imogen Heap is one of my top 5 favorite artists of all time. I've been to 3 of her live shows and think it's a shame that more people aren't familiar with her music, as it has touched me personally on so many levels. So I want her to knock it out of the park, I realllllly do. However. Never in my entire concert-going career have I experienced a show this disappointing. As another reviewer stated, Imogen did warn us it would be bad going into it (never a good sign). My first hint should've been the largely untalented openers we were forced to endure for what seemed like eons before she took the stage. But when she forgot the melody and flubbed the lyrics of not one, not two, but the vast majority of the songs in her setlist, I knew it had gone from bad to much, much worse. On one song in particular, I believe it was "Wait It Out," she had 3 false starts on the keyboard before getting the intro right. It didn't help that in between these gaffes she'd babble on and on about how nervous she was and that she hadn't had time to rehearse beforehand because she'd been so extremely "busy." While some reviewers thought this was "sweet" and "endearing," I found it annoying and offensive that she couldn't be bothered to put on a decent gig for her fans who were mostly relegated to a standing room only GA section for 3+ hours. First show of the tour or not, I expect more from a professional entertainer and especially Imogen. I ended up ducking out early. A first for me.

she did apologize before it started . . .

by liketheair on 11/13/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

. . . which is always a bad sign. Surprisingly, this show was not very good at all. The opening acts failed to grab any attention, and sadly, neither did Imogen! What happened? It seemed like a very amateur effort . . . which was not to be expected. Imogen carried on with banter between poorly performed renditions of her album tracks, that could barley be understood. . . . . . prompting a fellow concert goer to shout, "hurry up!" Ouch, that hurts says the artist . . . . but it was true. For maybe the second time ever in my concert-going career, I left early. Disappointing.

Imogen Heap is a beautiful soul

by HappytobeinLA on 11/12/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

I have listened to Imogen's music since last year so i am familiar with her unique view of music, her beautiful haunting voice, her talent. But seeing her show makes me see more. She is very humble, fun, and sincere. Anyway, She played a lot of song. The only complain is that we stand for four hours (plus an hour waiting), on Monday night after work. We stayed untill the end though, cause it was worth it. My favorite was "Just For Now", where she ask the audience to participate. The two opening musics are also great.

    Imogen Heap lame

by alairman on 11/11/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

This was the seventh time I've seen Immy. Far from her glory days of Frou Frou, she's succumbed to bland music, sweet AdLibs and too much reliance on computer gimmickry to carry her show. She actually sets up her machine sounds and muses while we wait. Give me an artist that knows how to jam with with his whole band such as Steve Winwood or Bob Weir of Ratdog. I've been to many shows and this is the first one I've walked out of. Needless to say, my next 5 shows are jazz: Joshua Redman and Sonny Rollins. I won't be attending anymore techno-pop shows for awhile!

    Imogen Heap was adoree-ble

by Anonymous on 11/11/09The Music Box at the Fonda - Hollywood

I surprised my boyfriend with the concert tickets. It was our first time at the venue and we had a great time in the balcony seats. There were two opening bands that IH personally loved and they performed with her throughout the night, which was amazing! What a wonderful experience for the eclectic ear! She played many songs off her new album as well as a few oldies--which we loved! She is expected back in April and we hope to see her again!
