About

IGGY POP IN CONCERT:

Thereís a reason they call Iggy Pop the Godfather of Punk -- he was one of the first to tap into the raw power of rock and combine it with snarling attitude to create a new genre of music. Whether heís swinging the microphone over his head, running around the stage, or contorting his body into a provocative pose, fans canít take their eyes off the uninhibited frontman anytime he performs. Pop oozes rock and roll swagger as he screams into the microphone on ìI Wanna Be Your Dogî, but he's just as compelling when he shifts moods for the cool sexiness of ìNight Clubbingî or the gleeful abandon of ìReal Wild Childî. Now Pop is back on the road with special guests Josh Homme, Dean Fertita, and Matt Helders to bring the Post Pop Depression tour to fans across North America. When an icon like Iggy Pop teams up with some of alternative rockís best musicians, fans can count on explosive performances theyíll definitely want to see go off.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

James Osterberg, Jr. grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, where his parents gave him unlimited freedom to explore his creative whims. After playing in various bands (including The Iguanas, which inspired him to change his name to Iggy Pop), he started the hard-driving rock band The Stooges with three of his high school friends. At the Stooges early shows, Iggyís stage antics became the stuff of punk rock myth, ranging from self-mutilation to bizarre surprises like smearing peanut butter all over his body. The three albums the band released -- a self-titled debut (1969), Fun House (1970), and Raw Power (1973) -- are some of the most important precursors to the punk rock movement. But in 1974 the band called it quits due to financial issues and Popís increasingly debilitating drug dependency. Fortunately, he made fast friends with David Bowie, who employed Pop (one of his biggest musical influences) as a backup singer. The two moved to Berlin in 1977 to get clean together and record Iggyís solo debut, The Idiot. Popís fortunes finally changed for good in 1983 when Bowieís version of ìLittle China Girlî (which he co-wrote) became a huge hit for the British rocker. The influx of cash helped support Iggy while he went into rehab, and in 1986 he re-emerged with his first chart hit ìReal Wild Childî. Pop reunited with The Stooges in 2004, playing shows to packed houses and finally enjoying the fruits of the punk rock movement that he had helped inspire. Despite his winding road to success, Iggy Pop is now regarded as one of rock's most influential musicians, both for his boundary-pushing live performances and his flair for reinvention in the studio. In 2016 Pop joined forces with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) for the album Post Pop Depression, which the pair will support with a highly anticipated tour.

Iggy and the not so loser, Losers

by Shell on 5/2/23Pearl Concert Theater at Palms Casino Resort - Las Vegas

Excellent. Iggy is amazing. I've seen him a few times over the decades and he never disappoints. The band was fantastic and if I'm being honest, Andrew Watt kind of stole the show. Well done!

    All aboard for Fun Time!

    by M. S. on 5/1/23Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Got inside no problem, the merchandise line was a breeze. Cool posters by Zoltron. I got the last foil poster. Bought a shirt that my friend lost on the walk back to his pad after the show. Loser. Had a blast sitting outside up on the balcony before the show. The VIP seats were awesome. Bizarre topless chick comedian warm up act. Then, IGGY! The man is 76 and made me feel like a young man of 61. Highlights for me were "Nightclubbing", and the encore, "Take a walk on the wildside", into "I want to be your dog," into, "Louie Louie". My friend and I went to celebrate 50 years of friendship and both had a great time. The staff and people were all very nice. Top notch entertainment! Thank you.

    The man’s still got it

    by Z on 4/30/23

I’ll admit I had my biases coming to Iggy’s concert. I had so many opportunities in the past to see him, and I wanted to especially after Bowie died, but I passed them up for whatever reason. I was afraid maybe he’s too old to really pack a punch as a frontman. Man was I wrong. He’s still a top notch performer and the backing Losers matched his erratic energy. I only regret not having seen him sooner, and I’m disappointed the crowd at this show was kind of just there to hang out, not much energy from them which was a total buzzkill. I’m also disappointed in The Palladium for not allowing a stage invasion, which he’d had at other concerts, including one a week before at a different venue. Oh well. None of that stopped me from having a rockin’ time. Long live the godfather of punk.

Iggy Pop at the Hollywood Palladium was a fantastic experience. Me and my girlfriend had an incredible time watching Iggy absolutely tear the roof off of the place. The venue itself was fantastic and the staff were cool as well. I highly recommend anybody and everybody go here to catch a killer show.

    Hollywood Palladium

by Acrobat on 4/30/23Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

It’s amazing to me that a venue of this size and importance can’t figure out their sound. Every. Single. Show sounds utterly awful. Echos. Tinny. Bad midrange. Can’t hear the crowd at all so it’s like listening to a screaming child in a pillow.

    Iggy awesome, Punky saggy

by Mark on 4/30/23Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Opening band was boring,Punky Johnson (from Saturday Night Live) told mediocre jokes topless (the middle act) but Iggy Pop was Awesome. So overall, an interesting night. A little bit of comedy, a little bit of burlesque, and a lot of killer punk. So overall, 4 stars, and maybe an extra star for Punky’s saggy boobs. Oh well.

by M. P. on 4/24/23The Regent Theater - Los Angeles

A killer show. Iggy had the hair of a 20 year old, the face of a 60 year old and the body of a 90 year old, but he sounded awesome with a killer band. I am also seeing him at the Palladium in L.A. and l am contemplating seeing him at the Orpheus.
