Well worth seeing. Great voices, music and dialogue.

    Enjoyable but somewhat disjointed

by please1 on 7/16/16Boston Opera House - Boston

Performances were consistently vibrant however occasional screeching in the upper registers indicated singers were simply trying too hard. The story line of essentially never really knowing what the future holds, became muddled at times as the author apparently wanted to confuse the audience.

    Poignant and Inspiration

by cwc103 on 7/14/16Boston Opera House - Boston

Loving musical theatre, I thought this was the play for me. However, the first few minutes did not 'grab' me; I feared that perhaps this was a 'new wave' musical that might not be one of my favorites. After 20-30 minutes, I realized that the premise of simultaneous stories was very clever, that the voices, music, actors were extraordinary, and I did care about these characters. Isn't that what defines our favorite books, films or plays? Our perspective changes when the tale is realistic and we're curious about the next steps. In this case, the two scenarios maintained the suspense and attraction of the plot. Jackie's a phenomenon, not unlike Idina Menzel or Barbra Streisand; her performance was stellar...........even on a Sunday evening at the end of a very long week w/ many performances. Yes, I do love musicals - especially those that make me think about my own life :)

I laughed. I cried. I need to see it again!

by ArleneSacramento on 7/14/16Boston Opera House - Boston

I was absolutely mesmerized by the talent of this cast. The characters are well developed and the musical numbers keep you pulsing along with the storyline. My favorite song was You Learn to Live Without. I have been playing it in my head for several days. It's the kind of story that is so rich that I would love to see it again. I laughed and cried, then laughed and cried some more. You don't want to miss this!

    A bit confusing and depressing

by paul3434 on 7/13/16Boston Opera House - Boston

While there are certainly funny moments throughout this incredibly long performance, this play has far too many twists and turns to comprehend. The main Character, who's life is chronicled down 2 separate paths, is not a person you end up liking very much, no matter what decisions she makes. She's just not a likable character. I found myself wishing it had ended 30 minutes early.

And then you realize, there is no 'right' path.

by Megs4 on 7/13/16Boston Opera House - Boston

The best thing about If/Then is that most of the Broadway cast has joined the national tour! The story follows Elizabeth, who is returning to New York after a divorce, and the two different paths she could take to start over and the events that unfold after. The singing was amazingly strong and the set was minimalist but exciting. The beginning starts off a little slow but as soon as you start to see the differences (in either Liz or Beth), you try to figure out which path would be the better one. And then you realize, there is no right path. Tragedy and success can happen no matter what path you choose. It's an interesting concept and by the end, you were captivated.

    If/Then? So What!

by Farwell on 7/13/16Boston Opera House - Boston

Boring. Boring. Boring. As someone who sees just about everything on and off Bway, as well as regional and tours, I have to say this was the most uninspired, dull musical I've ever seen. Not only is the storyline less than captivating, but the performances, set and staging were mediocre high school drama club quality. That said, Jackie Burns has a terrific voice and does her best to breathe life in to this production. She's as talented as Idina Menzel. They both deserve better material than this.

If/Then is a fun show. There is lots of energy,,,constant movement of characters or dancers. Musical numbers were very good...albeit a bit forced with the orchestra playing to loudly. Glad we went. LOVE the Opera House venue.

    If/Then

by msssdirt on 7/13/16Boston Opera House - Boston

Every moment was wonderful, the constant changes in sets and subject, the talent by each and every performer was amazing. The stars Jackie Burns, Anthony Rapp, Tamyra Gray, Mathew Hydzik, Janine Divita, Jaques Smith, Marc Delacruz, English Bernhardt, Charrissa Bertels, Xavier Cano, Trey Ellett, individually incredible and the chemistry within the entire cast flooded into the audience. The play was attended by three generations, a very young 91 year old grandmother, the daughter 51, and the grandson and his friend, both 18 years of age. One could not possibly say who enjoyed it more as it was loved by all. Bravo, Bravo to all of the cast.

    If/Then

by Fromw on 7/12/16Boston Opera House - Boston

I enjoyed it; it wasn't bad. Some songs were good some not so much. The singing was average...some to soft; not comfortable at that level. I would not recommend this play for the amount of money I spent on the tickets. Maybe 50.00 dollars

    A nice evening

by SMDT on 7/12/16Boston Opera House - Boston

The building was beautiful. Drinks and restroom available I thought Idina Menzel was in the touring cast. She is but not for Boston. I was excited to see Anthony Rapp. He was ok. The story is long and chaotic but pretty good. All in all it was fine.

Complicated plot. Lead actress had amazing voice!

by Doramay on 7/12/16Boston Opera House - Boston

The plot of a women named Elizabeth and portrayed as either Liz or Beth required concentration regarding whether she was in a blue light or red light, which pocketbook or glasses she was wearing, etc. Sometimes the plot was hard to follow, but the singing was great. We enjoyed it, but would not return to see it again. Other shows, like Les Mis or even Lion King, we have revisited in other venues.

    Even better the second time

by JackieBurnsFan2016 on 7/12/16Boston Opera House - Boston

I saw this in DC during the pre-Broadway run and was anxious to see the final version. It's hard to follow until you 'get' that there are differences between the two paths that Elizabeth takes. Jackie Burns is great! She's followed Idina Menzel as the lead in both this and WICKED. I've been lucky enough to see her in both. She has a voice like buttah. If/Then is a thinking person's show and if you pay attention, you'll find it's not only entertaining, but will make you stop and look at some of the choices you've made and how things could have been different if you had chosen a different path.

    Surprisingly good

by Theon on 7/12/16Boston Opera House - Boston

The story is beautiful and I was very positively surprised by the progressive and gay friendly plot. The main actress really does a fantastic job as she is on stage all the time and very good from start to end.

The performers were all top-notch, Broadway quality but it was challenging to follow the story.

    If/Then was a disappointment...

by Cruiser214 on 6/1/16DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

First the good - the singing was exceptional and the actors were terrific ! Now the bad - the play content was really bad. The great singing and acting could not make up for a poor script which was hard to follow and in some cases made absolutely no sense. There was very little talking dialog as most of the "talking" was set to music which had no rhythm. The first act was like 1.5 hours long and if the musical had ended there it would have been OK with me. But the second act was just as long and got even more bizarre. I was glad when it ended and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend...
