About

Idaho Steelheads at CenturyLink Arena

Boise, Idaho, is home to one of the premiere teams in minor league hockey. The Idaho Steelheads play in the Mountain Division of the ECHL's Western Conference, and are part of the Dallas Stars organization along with the AHL's Texas Stars. The Steelheads play out of the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, which seats 5,002 for ice hockey and first opened as the Bank of America Centre in 1997. They are coached by Everett Sheen, who replaced Neil Graham in 2019 after Graham took an assistant coaching position with the Texas Stars.

Idaho Steelheads Hockey History

The Idaho Steelheads first took to the ice in 1997 as part of a four-team expansion of the West Coast Hockey League, and are named after a species of rainbow trout indigenous to the area. The Steelheads were instantly successful, making annual playoff appearances under coaches Dave Langevin and Clint Malarchuk, before hiring John Olver for the 2000-01 season. Under Olver, the Steelheads won two conference championships (in 2001 and 2002) as well as having the best regular season record in 2003. The Idaho Steelheads were one of six operating teams and one planned WCHL team to be absorbed into the East Coast Hockey League after the 2003 season, forming the modern ECHL. The move to the ECHL coincided with the formation of a partnership with the Dallas Stars, which has continued ever since, with the exception of the 2004-05 season.

The Steelheads earned the distinction of having reached the playoffs each and every season since their founding, as well as being the westernmost franchise of the ECHL, and the last original WCHL team to exist in their original form. Since joining the ECHL in 2003, they have won the Kelly Cup twice (in 2004, and in 2007 under coach Derek Laxdal). In 2010, the Steelheads won the Brabham Cup for earning the most points in the regular season, but they lost to the Cincinnati Cyclones in the Kelly Cup finals, four games to one. In 2019, the Steelheads placed second in their division, exiting in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs after losing to the rival Utah Grizzlies.

  • Great experience

by Wayne on 3/21/23Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

It was great. We needed 3 seats but couldn’t get any together but was able to get my son and daughter-in-law close to one another. We all had a great time. This was her very first hockey game. She was not disappointed.

  • Rude people everywhere

by Am on 3/20/23Rating: 1 out of 5

Arena staff needs to enforce standing behind the green line, otherwise people stand behind the seats and talk loudly the whole game ruining the experience for people who paid for good seats.

I bought the tickets as Christmas presents for my friends. We were really looking forward to going, but on February 4th my friend passed away. Needless to say we didn't go.

Great hockey and a great bunch of kids. They interacted with my kids and even signed some autographs after the game.

  • Our latest Idaho Steelhead game

by Don B. on 12/26/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

We waited a little bit to get into line this time. This saved time getting thru security and ticket folks. Everything went very well with little wait time out in the cold.

  • Family Bonding

    by Steelheads23 on 12/24/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

I was never a fan of hockey growing up. However, my wife and i attended our first steelheads game and had the best time. We have been to multiple games since and always have a great time. The best part about is there are no bad seats in the stadium where ever you sit you have an excellent view. I always recommend attending games to friends and family and everyone that goes says they love it. This is definitely one of the biggest attractions in Boise and everyone should give it a chance. Ticketmast was the best option for us and had the lowest prices for very good seats.

  • Honoring a hockey hero!

    by Luv2huntgal on 12/20/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 5 out of 5

We went during the honoring of a fallen Steelhead. It was an honor to be apart of the celebration of his life and so nice to be surrounded by like minded fans. Go IDAHo!!!

  • Game was phenomenal. Tribute to Lance was sweet.

by Krice on 12/20/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 2 out of 5

Section 208, Row D is an absolute joke! Has anyone that works there ever sat up there? The seats are stupid close the cup holders left indents in my legs. Had to sit on top of the folded seat just to be somewhat comfy. Ended up leaving and finding empty seats below which were the exact same with 5” more room. Come on, do better. Don’t charge us that much and makes us truly uncomfortable

  • Great event

by BetaMax on 12/20/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 4 out of 5

Seats were great. Wish more fan engagement by players to amp place up. And mascot too. I wish the liquor/beer was cheaper too. 😆 Parking is the worst. Be nice to have ticket validation.

  • steelheads hockey

by tub thumper on 12/19/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 4 out of 5

it was nice to see a game once again. now they have four officials on the ice, two referee's and they get in the way of the game sometimes. in front of me was a row of teenage blonde girls in shorts and bedroom slippers. this is when it is 18 degrees outside. oh well. enjoyed the game and it was reasonably priced. Could improve the replay of the goals- maybe slow motion or different camera angles.

  • Poorly defined seating

by TBfan on 12/7/22Idaho Central Arena - BoiseRating: 2 out of 5

When Idaho Central Arena was responsible for selling their tickets the seating selection was more defined and you knew weather you were choosing an area with padded seats and wait service but on Ticketmaster the different style seats (un-padded) with no wait service and no safety net are in the same section and are the same price as the “better” seats. Section 111 should be split into two sections or there should be a disclaimer of some sort informing customers of the TWO options in the ONE section. Section 111
