    Great Event

    by PZ on 7/27/23

The whole race/concert weekend is a great idea and has been for a couple years now. The effort, time, and money HyVee put into this was apparent and make this weekend interesting and enjoyable for a lot of people. We went on Sunday. The concerts were good and the racing was great. Appreciated the various vendors and love the venue itself. Opportunities for improvement for next year: 1. concert sound - I know that managing sound in a venue like this can be a challenge. That being said, the biggest issue was far too much bass. I know that is the thing these days (the bass to overwhelm the rest of the music so that you have trouble making out anything else. (wish it were better balanced at all concerts) However, the bass was so much that that the rest of the band got lost in the already challenging acoustics of the track, the was even true for Ed Sheeran, whose song choices were generally more restrained. That being said, both the Zack Brown Band and Ed put on good shows. 2. Food choices - while the food choices were OK (typical race track fare) for an event like this, a few different, additional choices would have been appreciated. especially since we could not bring in our own food. The food quality was fine, but not great. Overall, this was a good event. I am a big Indy Car fan and came first for the race. My family had mixed priorities. So, putting those together like this made this a fun event for my entire family! I look forward to what the future for this event may bring!

    Race weekend

    by Smick on 7/26/23

I think it was a good experience to a point. Hy-Vee added so much more seating they the reverb form the speakers was HORRIBLE. We couldn’t understand the announcers well and when concert time came we couldn’t even stay in our seats because it sounded so bad with the echoing. We paid way more this year for same seats as last year but last year had better sound system. Was bummed also that Hy-Vee built this large suite like structure in the in field which totally blocked our view of turn 3. They say even and better next year but if it means even worse reverb and less of the track for us to see I do not see my family returning. Little alone if the price continues to go up by hundreds of dollars we are done. Noire family time at the track for us.

    Needs new sound system

    by RS2009 on 7/26/23

Really wanted to love this concert was looking forward to both artists. However the sound team seemed to have taken the day off as it was impossible to understand anything from the concerts no matter where you sat in the stands. The race was fun however the concerts were going to be my highlights and they were a total letdown

Great time in at the races and concerts in Iowa

    by John on 7/26/23

We flew from Tampa to Des Moines to attend the Carrie Underwood pre-race concert, an Indy Car race and the Kenny Chesney post race concert. It was an amazing day of entertainment! We were selected from our stadium seats to join the VIP stage side area for the Kenny Chesney concert. We are looking forward to attending the event next year.

    Excellent all around

    by Sandy on 7/26/23

Great variety of shows and exhibits for all ages. Really impressed with the talent combined with racing for the money. Well organized and would go again in a minute.

    Awesome concerts and wonderful event

    by Rachel on 7/26/23

I loved the concerts. My favorite event was Friday and the free family event activities.

    Very disappointed

    by Btrainor on 7/26/23

The race was wonderful, however the sound for the concerts was horrible. Couldn't even understand well enough to recognize the song. Terrible echo as well. We didn't bother to even try on Sunday.

    Ed Sheeran concert a bust

    by Kevin on 7/26/23

After a great pre-race concert by Zach Brown and an entertaining race , Ed Sheeran’s sound guy couldn’t seem to balance the bass. Every time he turned it on , no other music or lyrics could be heard! Really, really frustrating since that was one of the reasons I bought tickets.

Paid for fence-line parking then they tell you your reserved spot is full, waste of 50.00

    Awesome Weekend

    by OpenWheeler on 7/26/23

We all had an awesome weekend going to both races and all four concerts. We camped at the track and met some really nice people and enjoyed every minute. Only thing I would change was the utter domination by Team Penske but that is up to the other teams to get better at Iowa.

    Indy Ia Speedway

    by KF on 7/26/23

Excellent concerts and race.Only negative was that parking passes had to be picked up at Will Call.Since tickets are electronic we should also get pass electronically so we can print .

5 stars for the race, although 1 star for the sound system

    by RoadsideBoy2 on 7/26/23

Our seat in section 204 had a great view. I'm happy with buying a race ticket, but if I'd bought it mainly to listen to Zac Brown Band and Ed Sheeran I'd have felt ripped off! The horrible sound system's problem was apparently caused by a sound technician who "had to turn it up to 11"when it should've been "run no higher than 7-8". Sheeran's bad sound was compounded by a "mystery sub-woofer thing"that came and went. The sound of the band at the beer garden at noon was much better and actually enjoyable.

    Exceeded Expectations

    by Race Fan on 7/26/23

This event was everything they said it would be and more. Getting in and out of the track was pretty smooth, good traffic management, and there was plenty of parking. The track facilities are good with plenty of restrooms (with both hot and cold running water), good food, and even a beer garden with live entertainment throughout the day. The stands are bleacher style with backs so you can sit for a while although I'd recommend bringing a seat cushion as sitting on the aluminum bench can get tiring after a while. The standard seating has no cover so be prepared to sit in the sun - bring sunscreen, a good hat, and stay hydrated. Covered seating is available for extra. The racing was very good and you get a good view of the track, the pits, and the start/finish line. The concerts were excellent and each one was an hour and a half long. There were some sound problems on a couple of the shows but Kenny Chesney in particular had everything dialed in. His show was outstanding. I'd recommend the Iowa Speedway in Newton. Great facilities, great track, great racing.

    Thoughts

    by Jesi on 7/26/23

Loved the music, prices for drinks were stupid high, not enough food trucks and apparently hyvee didn’t allow the food trucks to sell any drinks. Great way to steal from small business hyvee. Ticket prices were overpriced as well. That being said I paid for the music not the race which is sad for the race fans who couldn’t afford tickets. Love Ed Sheeran.

Can't recommend seeing a concert here

    by DC on 7/26/23

Probably the worst concert I've been to. The sound system was terrible. We sat off-center and there was a slight delay between the center speakers and side speakers. Basically it just sounded like reverb most of the time. There were a couple songs where we weren't sure what song it was until well into it. The bass also overpowered pretty much everything else sonically because it was doubled up (remember the speaker delay). It was vibrating the bleachers and we were seeing Ed Sheeran for Pete's sake. I've heard before that concerts at the Newton Speedway weren't good, and I can now concur. I'm certainly glad I didn't pay as much for tickets as many of those other people did for such a poor show. I would strongly recommend against going to see a concert here.

    DISAPPOINTED

    by Jillybean on 7/26/23

Sound system was awful for concerts. Especially Ed Sheeran. Raceway speakers should not have been. Delay between systems. Terrible echo. Totally ruined the performances. After 3rd song of Ed's we couldn't stand it and had to leave. I was so excited to see him in concert. So disappointed. Completely not Ed's fault!

    IRL Newton Iowa Race

by Shawn B from Cedar Rapids on 7/26/23

Ticketmaster’s marketing, ordering and electronic delivery process for my 4 tickets to the Sunday IndyCar race at the Newton, Iowa Speedway was excellent. The race itself coupled with the Zac Brown Band and Ed Sheeran pre / post race concerts was first class. HyVee as the sponsor show-cased their brand and talent in grand fashion. Well done and worth attending again in 2024!

    Cool experience

    by MW on 7/26/23

It was very frustrating to find out tickets were being sold at extreme discounts for HyVee members days before the event. I purchased tickets early when in fact I could have saved 50%. Please don't reward people for waiting. Overall this was a neat experience. The concerts were great opportunities to have stars so close to DSM. However, the echo of the acoustics in the speedway stadium made the listening experience pretty below average. Not sure how to fix that. The race was exciting and came down to the final laps.
