About Huntsville Havoc

Huntsville Havoc at the Von Braun Center

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) Huntsville Havoc are one of the most successful teams in the history of the league. They play their games at the Von Braun Center Arena in bustling downtown Huntsville, Alabama, adjacent to Big Spring Park and right off of the historic square. Downtown Huntsville is a haven for craft beer, coffee, dining and the arts, and a stroll through the square is a great way to start or end your Huntsville Havoc experience. Once inside the renovated Von Braun Center, championship hockey awaits you, with Coach Glenn Detulleo’s Havoc team led by players like top-scoring center Rob Darrar, captain Tyler Piacentini and promising right winger Isaac Johnson. Tickets for games are broken down into Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers, with the latter being just beyond the glass. Huntsville Havoc theme nights include a Star Wars Night, a Dog Race weekend, a St. Patrick’s Day celebration and two Alabama BBQ Nights. With well-attended games, the Havoc can boast the best average attendance in the SPHL, and that number has only gone up as the Havoc continue to raise the William B. Coffey trophy.

Huntsville Havoc Background

Entering the league in the 2004-05 season, the Huntsville Havoc are a fixture in the SPHL playoffs. The team won their first President’s Cup in 2010. And in 2018, the Havoc famously became the first fourth-seeded squad to ever win the title. They wasted no time following it up with another, when they swept the Birmingham Bulls in the finals for their second consecutive title in 2019.

The Havoc’s home rink is in the Von Braun Center, a multipurpose facility for sporting events and performing arts in downtown Huntsville. Along with the arena, the complex also features a playhouse, exhibit halls, and a concert venue that is home to the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and once famously hosted a five-show run by Elvis Presley.

  • Great Game but Mediocre Venue

by Anonymous on 12/30/10Von Braun Center Arena - HuntsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Hard fought game, good hockey! Unfortunately, the experience was marred by arena operations and setting that was more suitable for a high school event, rather than a professional sports team. With the multi-million dollar upgrades going into the Von Braun Center, you would think that the arena would be better venue for the game.

  • Seats need labeled & staff needs training!

by SilverUnicorn15 on 10/25/10Von Braun Center Arena - HuntsvilleRating: 4 out of 5

The game was incredible and once you found the seats you had a great view...But we spent almost the entire first period just trying to find our seats! We sat in 201L. When we first got there we asked a staff member where our section was and they directed us to 201. After locating Row B, seats 3-6 we found people already in our seats. After a brief discussion and exchanging tickets we had to concede we were in the wrong place. We once again found a staff member who simply pointed down over the balcony and told us our seats were below, but he had no idea how to get there. We had to go back out into the main lobby to find someone else. We finally found our way down to the lower level, but could not find the stairs to get up to our seats from there. Two more staff members later, we were in our seats. At least, we thought we were. Another family showed up and after discussing the seating, they said the staff had told them the numbers were reversed and we were actually in seats 11-14. We moved to the other end of the row were we were again told that we were sitting in seats belonging to season ticket holders. Three more staff members later, we were standing in the back of the section wondering if we were ever going to get to watch the game. With just a little over 3 minutes left in the first period, a confident staff member came down from the offices and finally directed us to our seats……..Our real seats. There was a complete shuffling of people in that section in order to get everyone where they belonged! We missed the presentation of the rings, the entire opening, the first goal at the home opener, and almost the entire first period. At intermission, I got up to find a restroom. Being unfamiliar with this section, I stopped to ask a staff member how to get to the nearest restroom. Surprisingly, he said he had no idea. We love the Havoc and we will go to as many of their home games as we can……….But if you’re not familiar with the layout, don’t anticipate any help from the Van Braun staff!

Huntsville Havoc was great, there was an awesome turn out for the game. From the first minute until the end it was non stop action. They won the playoffs and we are all grateful for the effort they played with. Thanks guys!

The game was fantastic!!! The arena was clean and comfortable, except I was sitting near an exit and the cement wall was blocking half of the rink so I was not able to see the whole other half of the rink. That was very dissapointing, but the game was great.

  • Havoc did it.

  • Havoc Hockey is totally awesome!

The Havoc hockey team is a lot of fun to watch, and they're a great team. They do special things each game such as auctioning off special jerseys and things like that to keep it fun for the fans. This particular game was fun because the team signed things after the game. Now they may not be very famous outside of the league, but they're celebrities to all of us, and meeting them was really cool. I recommend going to their games to everyone I know. In fact this was the second game my boyfriend and I attended, and this time we took a friend of ours because we had had so much fun the first time. You just can't live in Huntsville and not go see the Havoc play...you just can't do it!

The game was awesome. Down four to zero in the first quarter. Came back to win in overtime with 26 seconds left. Loved the military support that was shown.

The game was awesome. Yay! for the Huntsville Havoc killing the Knoxville Ice Bears! Here is where my problem lies. My boyfriend loves sports and for Valentine's Day I wanted to take him to something special. We live in Birmigham, AL so making a trip to Hunstville was part of the deal in his gift. We arrive to VBCA where there is construction. Not that big of a deal. We get to our selected area for seating. My tickets were box seats. Box 15 Row DD Seats 8&9. As we finally arrive in our area the usher tells us that one of our seats does not exist and that she did not know why they would sell me a seat that isn't there. SO she said that we could sit anywhere that seemed open. So my boyfriend and I sit. Not even one minute later we are moved to an area that she seats us. Midway into the first period the usher makes us move again. At this point I am very dipleased and angry. I let my disatisfaction be known to the usher. Mainly because I paid almost $50.00 for seats I could not even sit in and then I was missing the game from playing "musical chairs" the whole first period. The usher replied to me with I could get my money back and leave. In the midst of our conversation A sweet lady who was standing next to us over heard our situation and was actually sitting on the same row as us and offered to give us one of her seats so that we may actually sit where I paid for us to sit. In the end it did all work out, but it was by no means on the staff or the intellegence of the VBCA. It was all because a sweet lady wanted to be hospitable to a young couple in love. This was my first time at the VBCA and as of this moment I do not think that I will return.

  • will remember this game for a while

The seats wasn't as good as I thought they would be and I have seats in about the same place for another game which I could trade them for another place. You really can't see much action on the ice. It was nice to be that close to the guys they knew we where there that way but we just didn't enjoy the game because we couldn't see either goal. The Huntsville fans are always nice to use everytime we have came they have made us welcome. The arena is very nice. I think section 19 and 20 are the best sections.
