About Huntsville Havoc

Huntsville Havoc at the Von Braun Center

The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) Huntsville Havoc are one of the most successful teams in the history of the league. They play their games at the Von Braun Center Arena in bustling downtown Huntsville, Alabama, adjacent to Big Spring Park and right off of the historic square. Downtown Huntsville is a haven for craft beer, coffee, dining and the arts, and a stroll through the square is a great way to start or end your Huntsville Havoc experience. Once inside the renovated Von Braun Center, championship hockey awaits you, with Coach Glenn Detulleo’s Havoc team led by players like top-scoring center Rob Darrar, captain Tyler Piacentini and promising right winger Isaac Johnson. Tickets for games are broken down into Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers, with the latter being just beyond the glass. Huntsville Havoc theme nights include a Star Wars Night, a Dog Race weekend, a St. Patrick’s Day celebration and two Alabama BBQ Nights. With well-attended games, the Havoc can boast the best average attendance in the SPHL, and that number has only gone up as the Havoc continue to raise the William B. Coffey trophy.

Huntsville Havoc Background

Entering the league in the 2004-05 season, the Huntsville Havoc are a fixture in the SPHL playoffs. The team won their first President’s Cup in 2010. And in 2018, the Havoc famously became the first fourth-seeded squad to ever win the title. They wasted no time following it up with another, when they swept the Birmingham Bulls in the finals for their second consecutive title in 2019.

The Havoc’s home rink is in the Von Braun Center, a multipurpose facility for sporting events and performing arts in downtown Huntsville. Along with the arena, the complex also features a playhouse, exhibit halls, and a concert venue that is home to the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra and once famously hosted a five-show run by Elvis Presley.

Great experience, but my only complaint is that half the toilets in the women's bathrooms didn't flush.

We had the best time at the Huntsville Havoc game! 1st Hockey game ever. There was something going on the whole time we were there. Great family event. Fun interactions with the fans the whole time we were there.

  • Always nicer to win, but never disappointed.

by CHip on 3/26/24Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

They last game that we attended was "Walking Dead"night. The team played quite aggressively, the fights were just a bonus, and was still a good game other than the loss. The refs have been a little disappointing the past few games. Nonetheless, we enjoy it.

  • Great family night

by Mrs McKiven on 3/13/24Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Me and my husband brought 2 groups of families from church on Saturday night. We have been to several games as well as 1 of the other families. The 3rd family, this was their first experience. A good time was had by all 15 of us. Lots of action and excitement. The only thing that could have made it better was if there was a way to not overserve patrons alcohol. There was an intoxicated lady right behind me who could barely walk or speak due to alcohol. I was embarrassed for her. But, even with her out of control self, we had a great time!

  • Exciting!!!

Last night game was intense from the very start. The crowds energy was infectious and with the Havoc playing so good it made for an amazing night. So so much fun!! My only complaint is wishing I could just once sit closer to the ice.

  • wheelchair accessible seats are expensive

by Brenda on 2/27/24Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center - HuntsvilleRating: 4 out of 5

We had a great time but the only complaint is the price of wheelchair accessible seating, its triple the price of regular seats. I have to have them though but we wont come back nearly as often. We would like to though but $120 for 2 tickets is a lot for a local team.

  • Fun and family friendly

  • Our First Game Probably Our Last

by Teena on 2/13/24Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center - HuntsvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Our first game was ruined by everyone else not watching the game. The family beside us got up to go to the bathroom and concession stand no less than 10 or 12 times. Everyone in or next to our section went up and down the stairs continously blocking our view of most of the game. Enjoyed watching what little we saw. Very fast paced.

Great game and atmosphere. Huntsville is a great place to enjoy the night life.

  • Outstanding Consistent Product

    by HavocFan77 on 1/20/24Rating: 5 out of 5

The Huntsville Havoc do the best job with non NHL hockey you will ever see- the product is more inline with NHL standards than its actual level. From lighting and sound, to events between periods it's top notch. I am told that even away players enjoy games at the VBC because it's NHL like environment. Not a better time in sports.

  • Inexpensive, competitive patriotic fun

by Jazzy-Marine vet on 1/9/24Propst Arena at the Von Braun Center - HuntsvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Never been to a hockey game before, I thought what the heck I'll give it a try. It was actually fun, the people were amazing and the stands and at the concessions. Music was pumped up, the announcer kept the energy level up. The lines at the concession bar and restaurant we're not too long, I will be going back again and am considering getting season passes for next season

  • Do not recommend

    by Hockeyfan85 on 12/29/23Rating: 1 out of 5

Where to begin? There are so many frustrating things about the Huntsville Havoc and the arena they play in. First, if you have even a little fear of heights, do not bother with this place. The upper bowl won't work for you, and the lower bowl is all tied up with season ticket holders, meaning good luck getting them. The other problem is the lower bowl is about seven rows, meaning there are hardly any lower-level bowl seats to begin with. The seats in the area are also narrow, even for a person of an average build. We inquired about handicap tickets since my wife has a legitimate need for them but the price was $50 each. For an SPHL game? Get lost. I don't understand why Huntsville loves an SPHL team like they're an NHL team but then again, there's nothing else to do in the city.
