About the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest rodeo and livestock exhibition in the world. Also called RodeoHouston or abbreviated to HLSR, it is home to one of the richest regular season professional rodeo events. Since 2003, it has been held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. It was previously held in the Houston Astrodome.

It is considered to be Houston's signature event. New Orleans has Mardi Gras. Dallas has the Texas State Fair. And Houston has the biggest Livestock Show and Rodeo. The event is 20 days long, starting with the Downtown Rodeo Roundup held near Houston City Hall and the Downtown Rodeo parade. Also held is the ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run, a 10k and 5k walk and run, and the World's Championship BBQ Contest. The show features championship rodeo action, livestock competitions, concerts, a carnival, pig racing, barbecue, a wine competition, shopping, sales and livestock auctions.

The rodeo has drawn some of the biggest recording artists including Cardi B, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Selena, Fifth Harmony, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Selena, Kiss, Dixie Chicks, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Justin Bieber, Big Time Rush, Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, Janet Jackson, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, John Legend, Taylor Swift and Lynyrd Skynyrd, among others. The 2019 lineup includes Camila Cabelo, Luke Combs, Tim McGraw, Zedd, Kane Brown, Los Tigres del Norte, Zac Brown Band, Kings of Leon, Santana, Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson Band, Brad Paisley, George Strait, and more.

The rodeo was great. Each event had World Champions and well known names. The Alan Jackson concert afterwards was great also. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't an encore but over-all it was a wonderful concert. He is a great live performer.

    Alan Jackson, classic!

    by bob68tx on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

Alan Jackson was outstanding! He proved you do not need all the theatrics to entertain. My wife said "He didn't move around much, he just stood there". I told her "He is a singer" and he sung well. His voice was great, he sang with emotion in the way only one that writes their own material and that has lived the song can. I think they said he has been there 18 years, I can't wait to see him when he comes back for the 19th time. Thank you Alan for a great show!

Alan Jackson is truly time tested!

by Batti on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

We really enjoyed Alan Jackson, his music is great. The overall experience was good but I did notice the sound was off. Not sure what this was due to? I have enjoyed many other concerts here. But even so Jackson delivered!

Houston Rodeo/Alan Jackson Concert was Excellent!

by jbmram on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

My wife and I attended the opening day for the Houston Rodeo yesterday. We got there early (about 1:00) and there were a lot of exhibits and booths not open yet. The best times for us didn't really get started until about 5:00pm. If you have small children going early should be great as there are many things to do and see for young children (3-8). Overall it was a GREAT experience and the Alan Jackson concert was EXCELLENT!

Great Show, RODEO is HERE and NOW

    by OLAG89 on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

What a great night for the Opening Show of the 2010 Houston Livestock show and Rodeo, I still refer to it as the "Fatstock" show, but I'm not politically correct..... Crowds were light, parking was a breeze, found the secret...... Acoustics don't lend themselves well for a concert but A.J. is a great performer

Opening Night at Houston Livestock and Rodeo

by Papiaza on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

Transplanted yankee at his first rodeo. The event choreography was terrific. Alan Jackson was on his game. The rodeo events were high quality and the venue was large yet comfortable. Very family friendly. Only criticism was alcoholic beverage service. Why do you need to stand in line to buy a drink ticket then stand in line for a beer?

    Fun but left wantin more

by SexySunny on 2/28/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

I wish the tickets would come with a map of the event, because we were lost the first 30 min. When you get there you can smell all the smell of BBQ!!! But the cook off meal was a sloppy Joe, chips, and baked beans....I wish the plate was actual BBQ. The ppl are very nice and they are always willing to direct you. The carnival doesn’t open until 12pm, so I guess the first thing ppl do is go to the horse show (make sure you hold your nose!!), then eat a free plate, then go to the carnival. The band is great and there is plenty room to dance, sit, or lean. The Jack Daniels booth gives away bandanas, which are really cool. I think more give-a-ways would be nice. Maybe some contest for ppl to win a chance to taste the award winning BBQ! Also, a karaoke place would be very cool! Over all it is fun, but expect to do a lot of walking and take lots of cash because food and carnival tickets are expensive.

I paid for my ticket and parking. Walked around and couldn't get into any of the tents except for one and it was horrible food. Ended up spending a small fortune at the fast food ventors. I thought this was going to be a BBQ?! I will NEVER go again and NEVER recommend it.

    The Best Show

    by Chocolate12 on 2/26/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

This was the best, and I will remember it. I will always attend the World Championship Bar-B-Q.

I think it is very unfair that other people can't buy a BBq plate or go in the tents if our not invited. Then why sail tickets to the public. They should at least have to where if people want to buy plates they can....
