About the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest rodeo and livestock exhibition in the world. Also called RodeoHouston or abbreviated to HLSR, it is home to one of the richest regular season professional rodeo events. Since 2003, it has been held at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. It was previously held in the Houston Astrodome.

It is considered to be Houston's signature event. New Orleans has Mardi Gras. Dallas has the Texas State Fair. And Houston has the biggest Livestock Show and Rodeo. The event is 20 days long, starting with the Downtown Rodeo Roundup held near Houston City Hall and the Downtown Rodeo parade. Also held is the ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run, a 10k and 5k walk and run, and the World's Championship BBQ Contest. The show features championship rodeo action, livestock competitions, concerts, a carnival, pig racing, barbecue, a wine competition, shopping, sales and livestock auctions.

The rodeo has drawn some of the biggest recording artists including Cardi B, Beyoncé, Selena Gomez, Selena, Fifth Harmony, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, Selena, Kiss, Dixie Chicks, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Justin Bieber, Big Time Rush, Brooks & Dunn, George Strait, Janet Jackson, Garth Brooks, Willie Nelson, Kenny Chesney, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, John Legend, Taylor Swift and Lynyrd Skynyrd, among others. The 2019 lineup includes Camila Cabelo, Luke Combs, Tim McGraw, Zedd, Kane Brown, Los Tigres del Norte, Zac Brown Band, Kings of Leon, Santana, Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson Band, Brad Paisley, George Strait, and more.

Love the rodeo events...the riding, roping and bull riding. There were too many entertainers that were c&w. Picking were slim to see a good entertainer and still see the rodeo. We went to see the rodeo and let early as the show started.

    twas awesome :)

The rodeo it self was just great. There was a lot to do and I finally got to ride a mechanical bull. All of the vendors were very nice. Although everything is really exspensive it was great to look at all the neat stores that were there. Dierk Bently was fantastic. He's amazing live on stage. He has energy and he sings beautiful. It sounds like your listening to the radio or cd :)

    Dierks Bently, Amazing

by OsoGrande on 3/4/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

I didn't expect to know every single song he sang on stage. He came out strong with a couple of his hit songs but next thing I knew, all his songs he sang during the whole show were hits. It was amazing and he sounded great. He buts on a good show. I would love to see him sometime with is own stage and set. I highly recommend going to see Dierks Bently in concert.

    Rodeo Houston

by cswin on 3/4/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

I purchased rodeo tickets over 1 month before the event and the "best" tickets available were in section 548. The night of the event over one half of the seats closer were empty. This is the second time that this has happened. I wouldn't mind paying more if I could set close enough to see without watching the TV screens.

The rodeo was great as usual! My husband and I enjoyed it very much. We enjoyed all the events and especially like the new mutton busting event. Alan Jackson put on an outstanding show! It is just a shame that the sound system in Reliant Stadium is so poor. You could barely understand the words Alan was singing. The concerts were definitely better in the Astrodome. The light shows were excellent though and we liked the streaming videos. Alan gave us a great show in spite of the bad sound system. I hope he will continue to perform at the rodeo for many years to come. The fireworks add a lot also.

There was so much bass, you couldn't hear Alan sing!! It was very bad. they really need to do something about the sound quality for these performers!

    Sound terrible

    by cowboy100 on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

The rodeo was great and I am sure Alan Jackson was but the sound was horrible. We left early because our head hurt from the loud ringing bass. It is not fair for him or his fans. Surely something can be done to make it better, It will be a few years before I will return!

    Alan Jackson

by lgilb on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

Alan Jackson was great however the sound in the arena was terrible. We could barely hear him over the bass. Whoever was responsible for the sound check and/or mixing did a terrible job.

    Alan is Awesome

by Realhappy on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

The show was great. Alan sang and performed wonderfully. His band is excellent. Too bad Reliant had the bass so loud it was drowning out his singing and music. About half way thur it seemed they tried to correct it but sometime later it went back to how it started. It was not Alan or the band's fault- I guess Relaint thought they were putting on a rap concert with the bass so over the trebles. Other than that the show was great. Nice stage, awesome songs, he seemed in great spirits and sang his most heart felt and best songs.

    Alan Jackson was great!

by SarainHouston on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

Loved watching Alan Jackson at Houston Rodeo at Reliant Stadium on Tuesday! He was so good and played a great variety of his songs - all of which were well done. I just love him! It was the first time I've had the opportunity to see him live, but I've listened to his music for years. Alan Jackson is a great entertainer and has a good relationship with the fans, especially when performing live. All around - a fabulous evening! The rodeo itself was awesome, too - especially the bullriding and mutton busting! The only reason I didn't rate this 5 stars is because Reliant Stadium is so huge that even if you have close seats, you seem really really far away from the performer. But, don't get me wrong - it's still worth it to go for sure! Also, there was an issue with the sound - way way way too much bass - for the first few songs that took away a little bit from the music because it was really distracting. These few small critiques aside - overall - the Alan Jackson concert and pre-rodeo was lovely!

    What A Night!

by jjhawki on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

Very well organized and exciting! I'd go every night if I could - enjoyed the rodeo just as much as Alan Jackson, but Alan was a wonderful way to cap off the event.

Music too loud. Base was way to high and I will not ever go to a musical event at this venue again. This is the 3rd and last time.

The rodeo part of the event was great! The concert itself was okay at best. The sound was really bad. The rotating stage does not allow for the artists creativity. You only are able to see the artist half of the time due to it spinning and you are looking at the back of the stage. Bottom line, go if you want to see the rodeo, but hold and search for another venue to actually enjoy a concert.

    Alan Jackson was awesome!

by Lightfaith on 3/3/10Reliant Stadium - Houston

This is the first time I've been to one of Alan Jackson's shows, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised! Even up in the 500's seating of Reliant Stadium, I didn't feel cheated by the experience at all. Alan Jackson was on-par with plenty of old favorites, as well as a couple of songs I either hadn't heard yet, or hadn't heard in a while. A great singer at a great venue!
