About

Home Free on Tour

Though Home Free are primarily considered a country group, the quintet's concerts are quite a bit more. First and foremost, they're a vocal act in the a cappella tradition, which means they know how to make five voices sound like a full band even without any instruments on the stage. They pull off this impressive achievement by incorporating lush harmonies, beatboxing and vocal counterpoint that harkens back to doo-wop and barbershop. While recent years have found Home Free moving toward a more country-based sound, with a repertoire that includes the likes of Vince Gill, Blake Shelton and Maren Morris, they also venture into plenty of other areas when they perform live. A cappella versions of tunes made famous by Ed Sheeran, Shakira or The O'Jays are just as likely to enter their performance repertoire.

Home Free in Concert

The a cappella phenomenon known as Home Free came into being in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2000 when five young men, including brothers Adam and Chris Rupp, joined their voices together for the first time. Their repertoire was all over the map, including country, pop, soul and rock 'n' roll. The group eventually hit the road hard, and began releasing albums on their own label in 2007 starting with From the Top. But things changed in a big way for Home Free when they won the TV competition show The Sing-Off in 2013. By that time they'd become more country-oriented, and after earning a record deal with Sony/Columbia their albums started regularly entering the upper rungs of country charts. Several personnel changes occurred over the years, the biggest when Chris Rupp departed in 2016, but in their current incarnation Home Free still bring the a cappella magic to the stage every time.

    Could have been better.

by Yudamahn on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Huntsville was the last stop for the group, and it showed. I got the impression that they were a bit tired and couldn’t wait for it to end. The songs they sang were great, but too few of them, and it seemed they were cut short. It was good to see the team member that made drum and instrument sounds, but it went on for too long. I think I counted a dozen songs for the entire concert. Overall OK, but not my money’s worth.

    A good night out

by Vacationer on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Saw Home Free twice before in home town of JACKSONVILLE FL. This 3rd time I saw them in Huntsville they talked more and sang fewer songs. They are still awesome but you could tell it was the end of their tour and they were tired. Still a big fan!!

    5-Stars! Consistently Fabulous!

by KMumpy on 4/17/24Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center - Huntsville

Home Free is a group who consistently delivers a fabulous show! The songs are "singalongable,"the harmonies are super tight and spot on, the energy is high, all the members get their moment in the spotlight to shine, so there's no "superstar"while the rest stay in the shadows! If you get the chance to see Home Free in concert, you will NOT be disappointed!!

Perfect harmonies and brilliant beat boxing. A high energy show that left me buzzing for hours afterwards. Clapped and sang and laughed. Well worth travelling to the US to see.

    Best concert ever--best band ever!

by Gail L. on 4/15/24Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

We dove nearly 4 hours to attend Home Free's concert in Kalamazoo, MI and it was worth every bit of the drive. Home Free is my favorite band ever (and this is coming from someone who was a Beatles fan way back in the '60s). The theatre was beautiful with its ornate plaster work from 1920's. I'm glad the band didn't shake it loose with their amazing voices. We loved every minute of it.

by Harvalee on 4/15/24Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

They are SO much fun to watch in person. They interact with the crowd throughout the whole concert and are just such nice guys! And the music is absolutely amazing! I espececially like tht they take turns addressing/talking to the crowd so you get to really see each one's individual personality, as well as their tremendous harmony together. GREAT JOB YOU GUYS!

What a great show! I only wish it would have been longer...but then I would have felt that way, no matter how long it was. Amazing talent in 5 superb entertainers. The Kalamazoo audience was wonderful, lively and enthusiastic. Great evening!

Per TobyK - needed a little less talk and a lot more action.

by Brian F on 4/15/24Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

The talent level was excellent and met the expectations. The song selection wasn't great - but that can happen when there are so many songs they sing. The part that was disappointing was there just wasn't that many songs to the concert. It seemed like they took a break after about 4-5 songs. Came back with an A Capella "instrumental"solo that seemed to last forever - then played a handful more songs before an encore song. Will continue to view on YouTube but don't need to see them live again.

    Disappointed in show

by Milo's Mom on 4/15/24Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

We went to this show expecting a lot of great music. We were told 2 45-minute sets with a 15 minute intermission. What we experienced was a lot of talk, a lot of time spent selling their product, short sets and a longer intermission. The 2nd set featured a solo of at least 20 minutes by the "beat box guy."There was maybe 8 songs during the entire concert, not including the encore. It was very disappointing.

One tiny fruit fly in an otherwise perfect pie.

by Bindle on 4/15/24Kalamazoo State Theatre - Kalamazoo

Everything about the performance was completely perfect. The only (slight) issue for us, was the lighting. It's so saturated, intense, and bright. We sat near the stage and were nearly blinded by the colored lights. I understand it's fun and lively to have colored lights, and it adds a dimension you don't often see in vocal concerts, helping to brand Home Free as unique. But the intensity could've been softened a little. The band itself was blissfully perfect, high-energy, and awesome.

by Barefoot Historian on 4/13/24The Walker Theatre - Chattanooga

Home Free was simply superb. From heartwarming harmony to song selections, I was in a very happy zone. Each member is incredibly talented and yet they work together to highlight each other’s talent. Precision execution. Manna for my soul.
