    Windy City hockey classic

    by Johngrubes1 on 3/2/13Soldier Field - Chicago

Had a great time at the games. The ice could have been in better condition, but I think that was due to the weather. Would have been a perfect day if the Blackhawks would have rolled back the time of their game. Could have had 3 games in one day. Sorry you didn't get my money!

Outdoor hockey is fun and exciting! Soldier Field was a surprisingly good venue for this event as well.

Once was good but not on a regular basis

by BBlake on 2/25/13Soldier Field - Chicago

The biggest problem is that Soldier Field is not a place to watch a hockey game. Most of the seats were horrible. All the seats in the bottom two levels were practically useless and for $78 WAY over priced. If we had not moved to some open seats in the 300 level that were "OK" I really would have been angry. The parking situation was horrible as well. We missed most of the first period because were were literally stopped in traffic just of LSD for 20 minutes not moving at all. This was due in part to the Auto Show which was at McCormick Place the same day and time and in part to the incompetent people directing traffic. The food and drinks were way over priced, too. The hockey was great. and the food and beer selection was very good.

Hockey City Classic was outdoor puck at its finest

by Frogster on 2/23/13Soldier Field - Chicago

It's really hard to replicate what the Winter Classic of 2009 brought to Chicago at Wrigley Field. In essence, it is unfair to compare the two. However, if anyone went to both like I did, I unfortunately have to say this took a back seat to the Winter Classic. Yet, as a solo event, this was everything I expected and more! The atmosphere was as I expected yet wasn't fully as I anticipated. I believe this event would have been better sold and atmosphere would have been better for both games if tickets were sold for the individual games. The overall attendance was announced at 52,000+, but there were probably only 20 to 25,000+ there at a given time during both games. In a regular arena, that would have been nice but in a 75,000+ seat football stadium, it took away from the experience. With all that being said, it was still awesome to see outdoor hockey once again in Chicago. I grew up in the Kankakee area through high school and now go to school in the Twin Cities of Minnesota so overall it was a great event to experience with my family and friends by integrating both aspects of my life.

Seats in the 300 level had a great viewing angle. Our friends sat in row 5 of the 100 level and were extremely low and couldn't see the ice. To be expected from a hockey game inside a football stadium, but going lower would have been miserable.

The whole event, both games, were pretty amazing. Chicago and Soldier Field did a great job.

We had a great time attending the Hockey City Classic. The weather cooperated with a sunny day with little to no wind.

    Hockey is better outdoors!

by Anonymous on 2/21/13Soldier Field - Chicago

This event was loads of fun with friends. Outdoor hockey is the best! I don't know if I'll sit outside in freezing temperatures for two games...

What an awesome event - loved every minute of it! Hockey outdoors - the way it's meant to be played, in an amazing city and venue!

Despite the cold, and a smaller crowd than hoped, Soldier Field did a respectable job putting on its first outdoor hockey games.

Winter Classic Needs to Happen For Years to Come

by FigmentofYour on 2/21/13Soldier Field - Chicago

The whole scene was unbelievable. From tailgating with differnt fans of different colleges to the ambience of playing outdoors. Having the Chicago skyline as a back drop to hockey was amazing!

Great day, fun game. Soldier field is a fine venue but the parking lot security forced us to leave our tailgate spot and go into the game before we wanted to. That was disappointing. At any other college or professional event I have not experienced a time limit on tailgating, especially before the game.

It was just so cold. We watched Game One, didn't stick around for Game Two. I don't think there was enough of a draw for someone who didn't go to these schools to sit out in the cold for 6 hours of hockey. It was fun to see hockey inside of Soldier Field, but I think one game would've been better than two. Lot's of empty seats, as people waited for their game.

    Fun Times

by wallrock on 2/20/13Soldier Field - Chicago

I enjoyed the game and had a great time watching the Badgers skate to a victory. The PA guy could use a bit of work brushing up his announcing game.

What a great day! So much hockey. Very exciting to see. From the games itself. From watching hockey outdoors. From the guy that ran out onto the field and was nearly tackled. Couldn't have asked for more fun!

Thought the games were great. Wish they had other warming stations other than the bathrooms

    Event was a bust.

    by Section142seat17 on 2/20/13Soldier Field - Chicago

There was no view of ice from my seats. Watched entire game on jumbo screen. Hot chocolate for $8.50, give me a break. Security was second rate, drunks everywhere no one controlling overserving. Ice quality was terrible, game had to be stopped way too many times for ice repair. Traffic control before game, waited in line over an hour to park at prepaid lot.
