    Not the seats I purchased

by Kerojax on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

I bought tickets the moment they came on sale to ensure that we got the seats we preferred. However, at the stadium we learned Coyote Logistics closed all the upper level seating and moved everyone to the lower level to make the event look more crowded on the tv cameras. The lower level seating has poor sight lines for outdoor hockey and we were moved from center ice to the far corner. I was greatly disappointed by where we had to sit, especially since the seats I purchased were more expensive. That being said, the games were very competitive and entertaining to watch.

Small crowd, too many bad seats

by Anonymous on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

The crowd was small. The games were delayed due to poor planning. And anyone sitting in the 100s couldn't see the game bc of the boards.

The Hockey Classic still crazy good after 2 years

by RBlabs on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

The event and venue are fantastic. Hockey in Chicago is king and having great college teams play at Soldier Field is an awesome experience. Yes, there was a smaller crowd than 2 years ago - I don't believe it is because interest is down. I believe there is one reason - 3 teams from the same state. Nothing against the state of Michigan - but how many fans did you think you were going to draw - the fan base from one state - even with 3 schools is too small. In 2013, four states were represented with Miami, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Notre Dame. Need I say more. Continue the Classic and pick top teams from different states.

Coyote Logistics Created Group Logistic Headache

by RPhilip on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

I attended the game with 6 other people, and I purchased the tickets for the group in the 400 level. We all arrived at different times from different locations, and when the first group arrived they were told the section was closed and they needed to be reticketed. When they said they were part of a larger group they said everyone had to be there at the same time before they could reissue tickets. This was a line heard at many annoying restaurants, but never a sporting event. I provided the rating I did because of the lack of communication from the event. If we knew our section was going to be closed prior to arriving at the event, we could have coordinated our arrival with our friends. I understand the challenges the weather caused, but ste storm occurred a week before the event and there was plenty of time to communicate. Finally, according to Webters dictionary, Nachos are "a tortilla chip topped with melted cheese and often additional savory toppings." Why does Soldier Field sell "Nachos" and you have to pay extra for the cheese? Especially at an event college students are attending.

    Event was just OK

by rhcgill on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

Very poorly attended (just stating a fact), start time moved back an hour with no notice. Just what we wanted--to sit outside an extra hour in the middle of winter. Event could be losing its luster. But the hockey was good, and that's why we were there.

    Game delays were terrible

    by cjw99 on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

It was my first time being at Soldier Field. I found the stadium to be absolutely wonderful. I'm sure that football games there are terrific because you have a great view of the field from any seat in the house. The hockey game was dissapointing because it was 41 degrees and sunny to start the day. The ice was soft and the first game started with a 1 hour 40 minute delay. It took 3 hours to play the game with all the commercial breaks (game was televised) and all the time to repair the ice. When it was done, they took an hour and a half break before the second game started. No one can control the weather, but when you expected an amazing event, this was disappointing.

Need to figure out how to get the ice ready when the sun is out.

    Coyote Classic

by mckeone on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

The event itself was excellent. however, attendance was low and it was not advertise via Michigan Alumni or the university. I don't think it was advertised at MSU either. I think many more people would have attended if they knew about it.

Third time at outside hockey event. First time at Soldier Field for anything. Seat selection of "best available" was clearly meant for football, not hockey. And I purchased on first date available. Left seat after first period of first game and event with 5 minutes to go in second game. Rating of fair provided only because of foresight to provide warming rooms to all. Totally disappointed! Event parties should also know that providing a Special Hotel rate at Chicago Hilton when the same room could be booked at $115 is ridiculous. Fortunately, I caught this and ended up with a room for $95 per night!

Around half the stadium was closed, and the ticket was "upgraded" upon arrival. Upgrading meant sitting two levels lower, which means a much worse sight line when the rink is way out in the middle of the field. I bought a ticket in the 400s specifically for this reason, but the 300 and 400 levels were off limits on the day of the event, unless you paid bongo bucks or knew somebody that could get you upstairs on the club side. The unexpectedly warm weather earlier in the day resulted in terrible ice conditions (the red and blue lines and logo at center ice were visibly raised relative to the rest of the ice, which meant that the zamboni couldn't lay down a level sheet and the puck would give an odd bounce if it hit the line just right). This and other problems meant that the 3pm game didn't start until 4:40pm, and the 7pm game didn't get out until close to midnight. Some factors uncontrollable, others not, but overall a poorly executed event.

    Terribly managed event

by Anonymous on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

From a miserable website with not even the most basic logistical information, to a poorly scheduled event (a 2 hour break between games with no re-entry allowed) and a badly designed concept (the stadium was mostly empty by the second game, which was also the "main event"), the hosts of the 2015 hockey city classic did a terrible job.

    Not again

by MSUVarsityHockeyAlum on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

Looked really cool upon arrival. 2nd game supposed to start at 7... postponed until 8:40. Got real cold & bored. Most disappointed in drunk, boorish, inconsiderate college students from both MSU and UM. When asked to sit down, got a lot of very unnecessary, profanity-laced lip. Weren't watching or interested in the game and wouldn't sit down so others could see. Don't seem to have a clue to how fortunate they are to be traveling to Chicago, going to an historical game, drinking too many $9+ bears, staying overnight in Chicago, breakfast Sun. AM, etc. These are the future leaders that parents are spending way too much on to get drunk at out-of-town sporting events? Kinda frightening.

The student sections were on both ends and with the big patch of snow surrounding the rink it was really hard to see anything so we didn't watch most of the game. Since there wasn't a lot of people there at all they should've blocked those sections off and only put people in the sections near center ice, not at the ends by the goals.

    Horrible

by Anonymous on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

This event was awful. Seats were "upgraded" to the lower bowl just so they could get people on tv. Total waste of money.

As an MSU fan we arrived to watch the last period of the first game. Imagine our surprise when arriving 2 hours after the scheduled start of the first game, we heard the national anthem being sung. It would have been nice to recieve a text since you have my cell that the games were delayed almost 2 hours. I understand but it made for a long night - we returned to our hotel after midnight. I'm just glad the temperature stayed above freezing. Lastly, there were a lot of very drunk young people inside. Their foul language with the children around was uncalled for and I am sorry for the messes they left everywhere for the staff to clean up.

    Very poor operations.

by sportsfanatix on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

Team logos printed wrong on merchandise. Never heard of "Michigan University". Ice was soft which made the game bad, and game was delayed by a few hours. Maybe Coyote should stick to shipping because they don't know anything about entertainment! Solider field always cool.

The selection of teams was not great. Miami is good, Michigan is good, but need to get Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Minnesota, etc. to attract better crowd. Also, bit too expensive.

    Great potential, poor execution

by Limehen on 2/10/15Soldier Field - Chicago

Had this event gone off as planned, I think it would have been a lot better. First, the event time was changed, without notifying ticket holders, so that people showed up (and many started drinking) 2 hours or more before the first game--while we weren't drinking, clearly there were plenty of people around us who had nothing better to do while waiting for the first game to start. Then, because the start was pushed back by nearly 2 hours, fans like us who had to catch trains out of downtown had to leave well before the end of the second game. In addition, because the stadium crew couldn't be bothered to clear snow from the upper deck, we were relocated to seats on a lower level. I understand that for football, lower and closer is ideal, but for hockey, with the rink in the center of the field, lower seats meant that we couldn't see half of the ice sheet or any action along the near boards. It is ironic that an event sponsored by a logistics company had such abysmally poor logistics...

    Outdoor Hockey Was A Blast

    by AlexW0312 on 3/18/13Soldier Field - Chicago

I had never seen a Hockey game before. Pre-gaming at Reggies and taking the bus over with other revved up fans was really fun. Everyone was trekking towards the field like it was some sort of pilgrimage. And inside it was just a sea of happy and excited people. I lost my voice the next day from cheering.
