Disappointing Los Angeles Experience
by DCR on 4/11/24The 360° audiovisual part at the end was amazing! This alone made the visit worthwhile, but the rest of the exhibit didn't measure up to the event description. Most of the "displays"mentioned in the event promo turned out to be small assortments of memorabilia – some of it artfully displayed and others just on a pedestal under glass, but all of it lacking much in the way of description. It would be meaningful to include more information, similar to the type of details you’d see with items in a museum. Instead of a “history” of hip hop, as advertised, it was more like a bunch of stuff was set out to look at as you made your way to the audiovisual part at the end. It was honestly boring to walk through these displays that lacked anything significant to connect it all. I agree with other reviews that having louder music throughout (not just at the end) would have helped the whole atmosphere. There were a few highlights, including a Death Row Records chair that you could pose in and a display of fabulous photographs of various artists. But again, these things would be enhanced if there had been more accompanying info. The fabulous 360° film & music experience at the end touched on the history that was lacking in the rest of the exhibit, but each segment was short so it didn’t get too detailed. If the exhibit leading up to this last part had included details and the “history” context that was advertised, it could have all come together to create a worthwhile experience.
