Felder triumphs, just as Gershwin did

by theater mavin on 4/11/23Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Hershey Felder is that rare great talent who animates the world's great musicians and composers, so that a theater audience can embrace the genius of world-class music in the three dimensions of humanity. George Gershwin is an American master, and Felder's intimate portrayal gives generations of fans a chance to more richly understand and appreciate the talent and passion. Felder goes beyond mere admiration, to give us a history lesson about the whole life of the composer. In addition to the spectacular portfolio of Gershwin's popular and classical music and personal anecdotes, there is a powerful crescendo in the script, as Felder reminds us of a poignant counter-point in George's life. Anti-semitic hate in the form of Henry Ford's comments about Gershwin's Jewish heritage, as expressed in the Dearborn press, are followed with a resounding rebuttal in the form of the show's concluding Rhapsody in Blue. Point, game, and match to Gershwin... and Felder.

A Wonderful Sunday spent with George!

by P. A. on 3/2/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Hershey F was entertaining and wonderfully inclusive of the audience at the end. He truly knows how to engage with the audience and does it so well in a large venue. the Music Hall acoustics were great especially with the piano and Hershey's remarkable voice. Could have accommodated Hershey better/faster when he asked for the house lights to come up so he could see the audience when he did his sing-along at the end. Overall , an entertaining afternoon!

Exceptional Performance by a genius artist

by GaryS on 3/1/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Hershey Felder conceives, writes, directs and performs at a genius level. We were honored to see the performance. Our only regret is that Dallas did not adequately support the event or appreciate the exceptional talent enough to fill the hall. Failure to support the artists bringing their talent to Dallas can only reverberate against others considering Dallas as a venue. Shame on us!

by Kit on 3/1/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

Well, I left early. I kept thinking it was going to get better but for me it was not. Sadly, I was very excited to see this, but then I didn’t like it at all. For me it was a miss.

Hershey Felder was Fabulous, Fair Park Sound System NOT

by BobbieF on 3/1/23Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

He is a talented performer who has a very good show. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand much of what he said because of the Fair Park sound system. His words were garbled which was unfortunate because he was delightful.

    Loving George Gershwin

by charleston10 on 3/30/10Drury Lane Theater - Chicago

The show was wonderful, it brought the creative process of Gershwin alive. As a lover of Porgy and Bess, I have always admired Gershwin, but knew little of his personal life and artistic temperment. It was truly a revelation to see a dramatization of the creation of "An American in Paris". Although it was a one man show, it was never boring and the audience was totally engaged. One thing lacking from the historical narrative was that there was no explanation for Gershwin's interest in African American culture. Audience participation, when a young lady out of the audience volunteered to sing a long from her seat. She identified herself as an administrative assistant, but sang magnificently. It was truly transcendent to see such an ordinary looking person display such great talent at a moment's notice. I imagined that she must have been a standout in musical theater at her high school or college
