About

HENRY KAPONO IN CONCERT:

Hawaiian singer-songwriter Henry Kapono has been delighting audiences with his gritty vocal style and island vibes for over 30 years. With his expansive catalog and charming stage presence, Kapono keeps fans in high spirits at his live shows with rosuing renditions of hits like  "I'm Coming Home" and "Stand In the Light". Whether he's plucking his ukelele or playing his signature white electric guitar, the crooner is a legendary act who never fails to warm hearts and minds on his nostalgic tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Hawaii, Henry Kapono got his start at the age of five, singing in the local church choir and playing ukelele with his father. He continued to teach himself other instruments including guitar by watching and listening to some of his favorite musicians. In high school and college he was an accomplished football player with plans of going pro, but after several injuries he switched gears and returned to his musical roots. He fronted the Waikiki-based group Pakalolo, playing shows around the islands and gaining a steady cult following along the way. He earned mainstream fame when he formed a duo alongside bandmate Cecilio Rodriguez and landed a deal with Columbia Records. Since then the Grammy-nominated artist has released 17 solo records, won 12 Hoku Hano Hano Awards (Hawaiian Grammys), played alongside Jimmy Buffet, and toured around the world. The decorated singer has three decades of performing under his belt, and he always has ticket buyers feeling the good vibes when he takes the stage.

  • Parking lot was blocked with no attendent

by Toni on 8/29/23Rating: 1 out of 5

No signs, no attendent, with barricades at the entrance and over an hour of stopped traffic. I didn't see it and I am so angry that the venue didn't allow ticket holders into the venue parking lot.

  • Best Concert in a Long Time!

by BKS on 8/29/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Brought back so many memories of the C&K concerts of the past with the added benefits of having so many great artists singing with Henry Kapono. The only slightly negative thing was this was the second time in two years at a C&K concert we had inconsiderate people talking throughout the concert behind us. We heard them say they were friends of Kapono so we elected to not say anything. Frustrating because we paid for VIP tickets and were right up front. I think I'll recommend to our friends we sit in the grass area next time, which was a lot of fun in the past :)

  • C & K 50th Anniversary Concert

by Ron on 8/29/23Rating: 5 out of 5

This was the best concert ever. Enjoyed singing along with all the C & K songs. All of the guest artists were also fantastic.

  • Keep C&K songs alive

by ConcertLover on 8/29/23Rating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts featuring so many talented groups singing to singing to the songs of C&K. In my opinion, Alex Kawakami was even better than original Cecilio Rodrigues. It was 3 hrs. of non-stop local music 50 years strong. Recommend they repeat it every year. Waikiki Shell was a great venue for this. Mahalo for all who worked to put this fantastic concert on.

  • Fun nite

  • Entertainment was excellent and exciting.

by lOUIS on 8/29/23Rating: 5 out of 5

It started on time and ended with our Mayor canceling any extensions after 10p. The entertainment was awesome. We plan on attending the Maui event provided we can buy tickets.

  • Kapono & Friends 2022

    by K. K. on 7/9/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was amazing as usual and the line up was great, also as usual. However, the one thing that was a pain was the ongoing commercials for both the Hawaii tourism and Kaponoʻs foundation. We get it, heʻs trying to raise monies, but separate it from the concert. If we wanted to attend a fundraiser or telethon, we would. We came to listen to great musicians in a beautiful venue. The change between artists wasnʻt as seamless as previous years, hence the "commercials". Could we purchase an ad-free version next year? Enjoyed the multiple vendors for food and drinks.

  • Incredibly Awesome!!!

The lineup of Hawaiian Music Legends was fabulous. I don't know of another event that included so many legendary artists in one place. The memories! The performances! The collaborations! It was nothing short of spectacular! Truly a once in a lifetime show! I am sooooo grateful to have had the opportunity to be there!

Best concert in years!!! The program was put together well. Enjoyed the various collaborations with Henry and friends. The artists were eager to perform as well as the fans eager to watch after a long period of isolation. Thank you Henry for putting out a show of great local talent. Couldn’t be any place better than Waikiki Shell too! I hope a DVD comes out!

by Mary Pat on 6/22/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

I’m from Chicago and I’ve always wanted to go to a concert at the shell. I could never imagine the concert I saw. I love Henry Kapono. I never could have imagined seeing 30 musicians throughout the evening. It will always be a treasured memory.

  • Ohana

by Beth - Malia, Eddie, Paulette, and Nyle on 6/22/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

The experience was the best Hawaiian music ever! It was nostalgic with Legends that are icons, and Hawaiian music that was filled with beautiful new artists too! The Legends brought back to life memories from the very first songs. I could remember where I was, who I was with, who I met, and what was going on at that time in my life. I kept hoping the night would never end. The night was very joyful; I only hope that my daughter's life will be so fortunate. My family, friends, and I would occasionally look at each other, filled with tears that brought back so many beautiful memories through music. Thank you!

  • Henry Kapono and Friends should be an annual Event.

by Mamo on 6/22/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

This concert event was iconic! By far the most chicken skin event in a long time. Myself and all my friends who came has an incredible time! The talented musicians were incredible! There were no lines to the restroom. There was ample delicious food available for those who were hungry and thirsty, including non-alcoholic refreshments. What an event! The Tom Moffatt Waikiki She’ll is a perfect venue. So lovely!

  • The Best Concert I have been to long time

by Sally T on 6/21/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly was delighted by the whole experience. I was moved beyond my expectation. All of the artists and songs brought back so many memories. I was in tears remembering the all the good times times I have had with folks who have moved on. When Kimmie Miner was on stage it reminded me of my best friend and sister who always sang "You are my sunshine" to her grandchildren. Thank you Henry Kapono for such a wonderful time.

  • Epic

by Makahiki on 6/21/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

An absolutely magical evening and the stars at the incredible Waikiki shell. Combined with a half a century of Hawaii news at legends with some of the new kids on the block throwing in and it is a spectacular night of world-class entertainment.

  • In one word: AWESOME.

by lOUIS on 6/21/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

This was a performance from a group of entertainers who did just that, entertained. For those who missed this event, you missed a great concert. I recommend not missing it next year. We arrived early, met friends, gathered drinks and food, sat, ate and enjoyed a perfect night of music from professionals who provided non-stop enjoyment. When this event occurs again, I will be there.

  • Awesome family outing

by Bee_lvd on 6/21/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 5 out of 5

My 3 year old toddler was amazed by this concert. No long lines to get in. Glad they had food Trucks but they should allow snacks to be brought in for young kids.

  • Too commercial

by Wami on 6/21/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - HonoluluRating: 3 out of 5

Been to many years of Home in the Islands but was so disappointed with the commercial aspect of this event. Probably will not go again
