Heaven and Hell-House of Blues in Atlantic City

by azvol on 8/30/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

Opening act-Hailstorm-very good, the singer is working hard , bass and guitarists are excellent-the drummer-a bit over the top but overall-good band if not for a very weak song endings.Heaven and Hell aka Black sabbath w/Dio. Amazing. You might like or dislike Appice but he did his best . Iommi and Geezer are incredible.Just watching them play is a treat.Dio-is another miracle.Comletely dwarfed by everything around him, thin and fragile, looking like a court joker-he is sending almost visible beams of singing through the crowd.Powerful and agitating singing, great voice and presense.Perfect concert with the exclusion of a lousy work of the sound engineer(guitar was overwhelming Dio most of the act). the stage view blocked by the speakers hanging on both sides of the stage(could not see Geeser till changed seats-no thanks to security stuff ), a bunch of drunks who had something to do with security-thus preventing some of us being able to watch the show(chances are security got paid under the table by letting them in and allowing to choose and change seats at will-and not allowing anybody else to do the same-ones who tried to escape this ravaging idiots)-thus- make sure if you go to this venue(make sure you will)-get seats with best view(not by using the best seats available feature)and try to avoid AC's House of Blues by all means. This is a 3rd show in my experience killed by sound technicians.Alice Cooper and Deep Purple were exterminated totally.

    3rd time seeing, best yet!

by DanAllen on 8/30/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

This was the third time I've seen H&H and by far the best yet. The House of Blues is a small venue, compared to the Spectrum and Susquehannah where I saw them before. I was 20 feet away from Dio and Iommi! Fantastic setlist too. And hey I even won a little in the casino!

    Black Sabbath Lives!!

by BYannone on 8/30/09House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic City

This is still Black Sabbath no matter what they call themselves these days. The show was great as always. They looked and sounded a little on the tired side to me. Ive seen them 4 times in the last 2 years and you could tell this was the last show on this leg of the tour. Not hearing Sign of the Southern Cross was a disappointment. And being teased with first verse of Country Girl as it let into Neon Nights sucked. Why Iommi won't play it all baffles me. Falling of the Egde of the World and Die Young more than made up for that though. Can't wait to see them again.

    WOOOOOAAAAAHHH

by SpanishMetalHead on 8/30/09Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

For me it was incredible because i´m a BS fan since i´ve 10 years (now I´m 33) . I was planning my trip to the US when I saw that in the time when I was going to be in LA Heaven & Hell were going to act there as well. I didn´t have to think twice and i purchase the ticket. The show was short for what I´ve expected but they still kick asses !!!!!!

    TOO SHORT

by DAVNYC on 8/30/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

The 90minutes the band played was totally unexceptable. What happened to LADY EVIL and THE SIGN OF THE SOUTHERN CROSS? They didn't have to play the song HEAVAN AND HELL for a half hour.

BLACK SABBATH by any other name

by OracleofSpit on 8/29/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

Tony Iommi is truely the greatest guitarist in the history of hard rock and heavy metal! Geezer Butler is a virtuoso bassist and Dio at 67 years of age sounds as good as ever. The concert his time around was only 90 minutes as opposed to the 2 hours they were doing in 2007 but there are 3 new songs from the new album in the set which makes up for it. 'Fear', 'Bible Black' and 'Follow the tears.'

    Heaven and Hell Revisited

by Charizma on 8/29/09Merriweather Post Pavilion - Columbia

What an amazing evening. For myself it was a walk through memory lane, revisiting the same line up i saw at the Birmingham Odean, UK back in 1980 on the original Heaven and Hell tour. For my wife, it was new experience. Disturbed last April and now Sabbath! She loved it. Ronnie was in fine voice, Geezer was strumming good, Vinnie was a blast and Tony was excellent as always. The only thing that marred the evening for me and why i have dropped a star was the sound. Tony was distorted way too much and tended to drown out Geezer and Ronnie. I am sure this was not the intention, as Coheed & Cambria, who were excellent in support by the way, sounded great, well balanced! First time i have heard Coheed & Cambria and i was very impressed. I will have to get some of their music!

    Great show!

by Wetdrums on 8/29/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

Not surprisingly, H&H kicked ass once again. The band chose a great set list. Tony was at the top of his game. Vinny was rock solid. Geezer never faltered and Ronnie was as energetic and entertaining as ever. They truly owned the crowd. They were loud as hell too. But with ear plugs everything was really pretty clear. Definitely worth seeing again. In fact I did. Two nights later in Wallingford, Connecticut.

    H&H was good but.............

by ababula on 8/28/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

As my title says Heaven and Hell was good but you could barely hear Ronnie's voice at times. Toni's guitar was too loud at times and blocked Dio's voice. Overall, Vinnie and Geezer were good and the crowd was into it.

    Sabbath/Dio rocked! Coheed Rocked! Euphoric!

by SammyTheSeal on 8/28/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

Coheed & Cambria was excellent and did a great show. My longtime favorites are Ronnie James Dio with Tony Iommi, Geezer and Vinnie Appice. Great songs, great performances, cool stage set and graphics, and Ronnie's voice is as great as it ever was, he really is a singer's singer. "it goes on....and on...and on....its Heaven & Hell"

    Heaven and Hell ROCKS

by Bigfish2352 on 8/27/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

One of the best shows by the masters of heavy metal, Dio, Iommi, Butler and Appice. I didnt think it was possible for these guys to get any better but they have. From the classic opening E5150/Mob Rules to the classic Heaven And Hell. These guys put on one hell of a show. The new stuff also sounded great. Made to be played live. The only way this could have been better was if they played for three hours and skipped that second rate opening act.

    powerful

by JerseyRockFan on 8/27/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

amazing show. Ronnie James Dio was flawless on vocals, and very confident. Tony Iommi was powerful on guitar. Jimmy Bains and Vinnie Appice fit in perfectly with the Black Sabbath sound. Ronnie's stage presence was very fluid. he moved the audience and kept things going. and, the audience stayed on its feet through their whole performance. i'd see them again, especially if it's at a similar sized venue, but with a standing room floor area

years pass and they still rule

by mvaz on 8/27/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

Heaven and Hell showed they still rule in the heavy metal world. Dio's voice is surprisingly strong, and he can reach the same notes he always could. Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler......no words really to describe them...too good. Thanks black sabbath...

Heven and Hell Mob Doesn't Rule

by ChrisBonf on 8/27/09WaMu Theater At Madison Square Garden - New York

Introduced as Black Sabbath by the MC.. Heaven + Hell delivered a pedestrian effoft puntuated by Dio saying he was playing this song for the 5 millionth time, and thats how he sounded. I was thrilled by the guitar work by Iommi, but even he must have had some sound trouble as he would go back by the drummer to regroup on several occasssions The new songs were good,, but they have to go back to some of the Ozzy era songs to replace some of the energy thats missing . The ol' Felt Forum was just as I remembered it back when, kind of like a big HS audortorium. The sound is great, the lights and effects are very good, but we need more if your going to introduced as Black Sabbath.
