Good Not Great
by RickyS99 on 11/5/11Paradise Rock Club - BostonI really like Hayes Carll, especially his album Trouble in Mind. This was the first time I've seen him perform and I was excited to see him in a fairly small venue like Paradise. I'd been to Paradise only once before (I live in Brooklyn) to see the Antlers. In both concerts (Antlers and Hayes) my criticism is the same: the vocals aren't miked well enough. I find this extremely annoying, and I don't know if this is always a problem at Paradise, or if I just happen to be 0 for 2. I will add that while Hayes and his band began their set with great energy and charisma, it seemed to fade somewhat as the evening wore on. Good, but not quite as inspired or inspiring as I hope for in live performances. Saving their strength for Williamsburg, Brooklyn the following night? The opener btw, Caitlin Rose, was terrific. I didn't know her music and I have since downloaded her most recent cd. I have to say she was better in person.
