About

Haru Nemuri on Tour

Combining elements of J-Pop and rap with a decidedly artistic bent, Haru Nemuri describes herself as a "poetry rapper." Born Kimishima Haruna, the Japanese singer/producer was inspired as a teenager as much by American hardcore punk bands like Fugazi as she was avant-garde Japanese music. All of this is evident in her unique sound that blends these disparate elements into a cohesive whole.

Following a critically acclaimed debut album, Haru to Shura, in 2018, Haru Nemuri released her second studio album, Shunka Ryougen in April 2022 -- the first in four years. She performed the new tracks during a largely sold-out North American tour, which culminated in several shows at renowned Austin music festival SXSW. Performing with her trademark reckless abandon, she won over crowds and critics, including the Austin Chronicle and Paste Magazine, who listed her as one of the best performances they saw at the festival.

It's no surprise that she didn't waste any time returning to American shores for a coast-to-coast tour in late 2022, building on her momentum and solidifying her reputation as one of the most exciting Japanese artists around. Grab your tickets now before her shows sell out again!

Haru Nemuri Live in Concert

Kimishima Haruna grew up in the Isogo Ward of Yokohama, Japan. Her interest in songwriting blossomed while she was in college. She played keyboards in a band as a teenager before grabbing the mic and production reins and going solo. She released her first EP in 2016 and began selling out shows in her native Japan soon after.

Haru Nemuri took the world by storm when her debut full-length, Haru to Shura, came out two years later. Fans went crazy over her modern blending of alternative rock, hardcore punk, spoken word, and rap, and she began getting invitations to perform at renowned festivals around the world, including Primavera Sound in 2019.

Her second full-length record, Shunka Ryougen, came four years later. Boasting a whopping 21 tracks, the album's lyrics bravely tackle weighty existential themes that find her ultimately embracing the struggles of life, so it's no surprise it was praised by Pitchfork for its "convincing balance of nihilism and hope."

It's hard not to get caught up in Haru Nemuri's boundless energy and enthusiasm that explode onstage during her live performances. Whether it's the unbridled anarchy of "Make More Noise of You" or the ridiculously catchy "Take Back the World" with its infectious rap interlude, there's a lot to like about this talented songstress.
