About Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The best movie music amplifies the action unfolding onscreen, and provokes deep emotional responses in audiences watching the film. This is certainly the case with John Williams' Oscar- and Grammy-nominated score for the hit 2004 film Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: Williams' music overflows with lively whimsy, sophisticated intrigue, and soulful melancholy.Â
These emotional nuances are teased out even more during symphonic live performances of the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban score â especially because the concerts are paired with a showing of the film, meaning the musicians are playing along in real-time with the movie. These unique gigs are the backbone of The Harry Potter⢠Film Concert Series, which books music-aided showings of the Harry Potter movies all around the world. The end result is that viewers experience these films in an entirely new way.
Composer Williams is a decorated musician, conductor, and arranger who's responsible for some of the most famous film scores of all time. He's provided timeless, enduring music for mammoth movies such as Star Wars, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws, Superman, and Jurassic Park, in addition to handling the score for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and the first two Harry Potter films.
Williams' Prisoner of Azkaban score is a perfect sonic match for the movie, which is based on the third novel in J.K. Rowling's best-selling Harry Potter series and grossed nearly $800 million worldwide. Studious Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) and loyal friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) continue their schooling at Hogwarts, where Harry continues to navigate his burgeoning wizarding skills. This time around, he's facing a particularly serious challenge from a man named Sirius Black (played by Gary Oldman), a prisoner on the lam from Azkaban who wants to kill Harry.

Always wanted go to a live orchestra. Saw that Harry Potter in concert was coming to the BJCC and jumped on it. The show met my expectations and beyond. Felt like a kid again rewatching the movie, then the music just made it even more magical. 11/10 would come again.
This was amazing! Cant wait to do it again. Hopefully soon.
My first time being there, and first time seeing it in concert was absolutely amazing! My fiancee, Whitney performed in the choir. Just an incredible job by everyonem
This is the 3rd Harry Potter concert/movie we have attended with the Alabama Symphony and they have all been great! Listening to the orchestra while watching the movie shows you just how critical music is too any movie and most of us have no idea! Great event and we cannot wait for the next Harry Potter concerts!
My experience during the concert was pleasant. The staff were helpful in moving the line through security as well as directing me to my seat. I wouldâve preferred a hard copy of the program as an option other than the digital copy. Overall I enjoyed my experience!
The show started about 20 minutes late but who knows why. Aside from that, I highly recommend hearing the Alabama Symphony and Chorus perform with the Harry Potter movies!! I will be going ANY time this is available!! Thank you to all who put this wonderful show together!!!
I really enjoyed the movie and the orchestra it was really amazing.
I had such a good time! The orchestra was amazing, and they played beautifully!
It was a fun experience. The music was fabulous and made the movie that much more exciting.
From our seats we couldnât see 3/4 of the orchestra because of the screen. Seats shouldnât have been sold
I took my 21 yr old daughter to see the presentation by the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. I was thoroughly in awe at how well the ASO performed so completely the musical score to Harry Potter, Prisoner of Azkaban. I did not know what to expect, but I never dreamed it would be the entire movie or that it would be so seemless. I constantly switched back and forth between watching the movie and the orchestra. An amazing presentation!!
It was seamless- you couldn't tell the difference between the movie orchestra and this orchestra. Just fabulous. The viewing was a different experience than just watching the movie- the audience was involved with the movie- cheering, oooing, ahhing, everyone in the same places. It was an excellent event for both adults and children.
We went to this performance thinking that it was going to be an orchestra performance for our favorite Harry Potter movie. However, all we did was watch the movie and forgot the orchestra was there half the time. We ended up leaving early because the seating was uncomfortable and we can watch the Harry Potter movie at home for free. Huge waste of over $200 for our tickets.
This was a great event. It was very fun and interesting. The orchestra was really good and the crowd was really interactive.
This was fantastic! We didn't realize they were going to show the whole movie. The very full orchestra and choir played all of the soundtrack and were so successful at it that most of the time I forgot it was live! Just amazing. Loved the end credits also as I could fully concentrate on the orchestra who are just so talented. Hope they do more of these!
It was a truly refreshing experience that we definitely liked a lot. Amazing to see our characters brought to life by the great orchestra.
