About

Hannah Gadsby has been a comedian for more than a decade but it was 2018 when the world took notice when their ground breaking comedy special launched on Netflix and stopped the comedy world in its tracks.

Nanette earned Hannah an Emmy, a Peabody, an Australian Academy Award, and the Most Outstanding Show awards at both the Melbourne Comedy Festival and Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, Hannah did two more solo stand-up comedy shows which toured the world - selling out houses across the USA, Australia and Europe, including the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Festival Hall, the Kennedy Centre, the London Palladium and the Opera House at BAM.

Hannah's second Netflix special, Douglas launched in 2020, and their third, Something Special landed on Netflix May 2023. Douglas was nominated for an Emmy and won an Australian Academy Award as did Something Special.

In 2022, they also managed to publish their New York Times Best Selling memoir, Ten Steps To Nanette in more than ten languages, chatted with the likes of Colbert and Fallon and hosted a gala at the Montreal Just For Laughs comedy festival.

Hannah also co-curated an exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, taking part in the global celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of Picasso's death featuring works from the Musée Picasso in Paris alongside those from the Brooklyn Museum's Feminist Art Collection.

Hannah's fourth special with Netflix was recorded in 2023 and launched in 2024, recorded in London, the Gender Agenda bought together gender queer comedians from around the world.

    Laughed 'til we hurt

by MC on 6/12/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Hannah Gadsby has long been a favorite of mine, ever since seeing her special Nanette on Netflix. But getting to see her live was one of the best times I've had in entertainment, not just this year but ever. She is an intelligent, poignant, and courageous speaker, who doesn't just deliver sugary sweet, frothy comedy, but really digs deep and challenges her audience to leave with a new outlook on inclusiveness and empowerment. Besides the long trek up what felt like a thousand steps and being precariously perched in our rickety seats of the top balcony, I would say our experience was a wonderful experience I will never forget.

    Oh Hannah!

    by G. E. on 6/12/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

What a treat to give some FEEDBACK on Hannah Gatsby's 'Douglas'. This show was so well put together. Hannah does not give her audience the privilege of ignorance or apathy. Her comedy comes from a strong voice of conviction around some controversial topics. This show is not for the faint of heart or the closed of mind but if you are up for laughs, gasps and thought challenges then this is for you!

    Best stand up "comedy/monologue/lecture" ever

by Nadia on 6/11/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

It was amazing!!!! I love it all, she is forthright and doesn't care if is unpolite or controversial, she is fearless, and I think it touches the inner self of everyone in the audience at some point of the show, either your culture, your gender or your politics orientation. As expected, you will feel in a roller coaster of emotions during the show, laughing and getting mad at the nature of human beings. Is a show that it will remain in your head, making you realize even things about yourself that for sure you didn't know were there. I recommend this show to everybody, just put your pride on a side before you go and learn to laugh off your self.

    A Great Night Out

    by S.HA on 6/11/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Before Douglas, I saw Hannah Gadsby on Netflix and I described her as authentic. She told me interesting stories about herself, her experiences, and art. I loved it. After Douglas, I realized that you can see her mastery in how she composes her set - I loved the outline. I also realized that I find her comedy fulfilling; it’s like a long night out with friends where you have a good intellectual and emotional conversation. I highly recommend a night out with Hannah Gadsby’s show.

    Excellent show

by Apratt on 6/11/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Hannah Gadsby followed up her show Nanette with another brilliant show in Douglas. Hard hitting, provocative, brutally funny, and at times, shocking. I can’t wait for the Netflix special.

Hannah is witty, smart, real, vulnerable, hilarious. If you liked Nanette, you will love Douglas. But it’s not the same show. It will make You cheer, laugh, think, cry, laugh some more

If You’re From the Burbs, Brace Yourself

by RB Sun on 5/13/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

The San Diego audience before the Gadsby show was entertainment in and of itself for this straight white female from the suburbs. Every LGBTQ in every shape, form and size spiced up 90% of the theater, with a conservative peppering of older straight couples. Hannah’s show was mild in comparison. Gadbsy’s Douglas was good, but not as good as Nanette. Her comedic incisors on trump (old fat golfers in “cuntry clubs”) didn’t bite deep enough into the man, but could have in that particular audience, with resounding applause. However, her bites on art history were spot on and I could have listened to them all night. From one art history major to another, how about your next show fully on art history, Hannah?

A roller coaster ride with a brilliant mind!!

by Kersu on 5/13/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Hannah Gadsby is an amazing storyteller and she takes the audience on an incredible journey into her deliciously complicated mind. There are emotional highs and lows throughout the show - she had the audience laughing uncontrollably one minute, and deep in contemplative thought, the next. I wish I could see the show again!

    Heartfelt

by Nnaj on 5/13/19Balboa Theatre - San Diego

Hannah is in one of a kind artist who touches the soul of every person she presents too. She has redefined the face of comedy. Her message is so compelling, with such humor, that it can’t be ignored. I’m amazed by her whip and her raw honesty.

Whatever it was, it was an evening well-spent

by Spectator on 5/6/19Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Hannah Gadsby has a unique voice and perspective. I thoroughly enjoyed the humor, pathos, art history and, yes, even the performer's impatience with the audience reaction ("I don't know what that means.") There are plenty of laughs but as Ms. Gadsby points out it isn't what some people expect of comedy. Whatever one calls it, it is definitely an evening well-spent. Listen well with an open mind and heart; this is an opportunity to experience the diversity of human perception. Thank you Hannah for sharing this with us.

    Hard to describe but amazing

by Lola on 5/6/19Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Watch "Nanette" on Netflix. Hannah Gadsby defies description and, as she explains in this show, that isn't her fault. How things got named is just one of the things she talks about ... You don't even really want to know where she's going. You just want to go with her. Or you don't, but then it will be easier for me to get tickets next time. Because I'll follow her anywhere.

    Love Hannah Gadsby

by LDS on 5/5/19Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Hannah Gadsby is simply brilliant. She is changing the face of comedy by integrating vunerability into the medium in a way that hasn't been done before. It was hard to imagine what she could do after Nanette, but she brought it and then some. If there had been tickets available, I would have gone again the next night. The venue was also good, but it would have benefited from more aisles. Those working at the venue were also great. Well done on all accounts.

    Douglas

by WW on 5/5/19Palace of Fine Arts - San Francisco

Great show in a nice venue. I found this more comedic than Nanette. However, true to form, Hannah expertly weaves social commentary in neatly with her comedy. I’m so glad I saw her live!
