About

For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

I am not going to miss my shot

by DBCooper on 10/14/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Words alone can’t convey the emotion packed hip hop story of “the guy on the $10 bill”. Exceptional doesn’t cover it. Stellar cast does cover every star on stage. It is the birth and next quarter of a century of our great country. A nation of states, but what is the state of our nation? These words, as valid today as they are were when Alexander Hamilton first asked, make us listen and learn what it takes to bring it all together, and what it costs. It is all worth it, and more. Buy a ticket, see the show, feed art and you will grow.

    Lots of fun!

by M. D. on 10/12/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Really enjoyed the show. I’ve been twice, once in the orchestra and once in the back row of the upper balcony. Enjoyed the show both times (but I admit that sitting in the orchestra was a better view). Fantastic performances by the entire cast.

    Great Treat

by DanS on 10/12/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

We treated ourselves for our 48th anniversary. It was so easy to purchase tickets on line, pick out seats then store the tickets in my apple wallet. A few days in advance I received a reminder to make sure tickets were downloaded into the apple wallet and be sure phone was charged before going to the theatre. By the way Hamilton was excellent too !

    Difficult to understand the words

by A bit let down on 10/12/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Despite listening to the sound track a number of times, it was very difficult to understand the words from the male leads, especially Jefferson. The women were clear as bells. We were sitting front row rear mezzanine. Maybe if we were closer it would have been better, but there are at least 10 rows of high paying customers behind us who theoretically had it worse. Everything else was magical. Unfortunately the effort it took to follow along took away from the experience.

    Hamilton

by Car425 on 10/12/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

It was the most greatist experience I have had in the theatre for a long time. The lyrics to the songs were so clever and unique. Kudos to Lin Miranda Emanuel for being such a brilliant and talented playright and actor. The King George character added the right touch of humor. Austin Scott was terrific as Hamilton as was the actor who played Aaron Burr. Loved it. Highly recommended!

    Surprisingly good

by Lil on 10/8/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Had no intention of seeing this as I do not like rap, however someone had an extra ticket so I went. I was pleasantly surprised, but did have difficulty understanding a lot of the lyrics. The story line was well done, unique and entertaining. Not sure if it was worth the cost of admission but it was good.

Experience lived up to the hype

by Eva on 10/8/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

So much imagination, great talent! A great story told in innovative, moving way. The dancing was great, and it did not get in the way of the story, enhanced it instead. The singing was wonderful.
