About

For nearly a decade, HAMILTON at New York’s Richard Rodgers Theatre, with its innovative mix of history and hip-hop, has remained “The Room Where It Happens” on Broadway. The groundbreaking Lin-Manuel Miranda production, based on Ron Chernow’s 2004 biography of founding father Alexander Hamilton, has gripped theatergoers since its 2015 debut. Immediately hailed as another milestone achievement by Miranda, who previously won a Tony Award and a Grammy for his first musical, In The Heights, HAMILTON became the most-nominated production in Tony Awards’ history and won 11 of its 16 contests, the second-largest haul in the ceremony's history. Among many other accolades, the musical earned a Pulitzer Prize in Drama, two Emmys for the stage film released on Disney+ in 2020, and a Grammy for the 2015 original Broadway cast recording, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and became the first Broadway cast album to reach Diamond certification by the RIAA in 2023. While it certainly made Lin-Manuel Miranda as much of a household name as the man behind his titular role, HAMILTON also launched the careers of his castmates, including Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr, Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton, Renée Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler, Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson and Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton.

The show was amazing! Would recommend it to others as a fabulous show to see. The only negative is about the seats - very “snug” and with little leg room...

    Show was amazing!

by M. S. on 11/20/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I’m not one to leave reviews but this show was that fantastic that I felt I needed to. From the start to finish it had me entertained. My daughter, who is 13yrs old had wanted to see Hamilton since she was in the 5th grade. She knew every word to every song. She too was very entertained. The venue was very nice. The only downfall was the seats were very tight. There was hardly any leg room. I also felt bad for the person to my right, who was very overweight. She had an even more difficult time with being comfortable as she kept trying to adjust herself to not invade my space which was tough. I would definitely love to go see it again!!!

An unbelievable theatre experience: smiles, tears, laughter!

by MEF on 11/19/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

The choreography was beautifully fluid and intricate and inspiring. The acting, singing and nonverbals kept me completely interested and enthralled. I heard some many amazing reviews that I was afraid that my expectations were too high and I would be disappointed as I am an avid theatre fan. I was wrong. The performance exceeded my expectations.

by C. M. on 11/19/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Yes, the ticket prices are ridiculous, but what a great show! Cast and music well coordinated, sound was perfect. Now if we can only address the drunk guy that sat next to me and talked to his wife all night...c'mon people...show some respect...

The evening was like no other!! The show was certainly one for which I will continue to rave like so many others have done since they saw the show. The cast was fabulous and so very talented. The passion of the performers was clear which made this a show I will see again. Kudos to all involved and especially to Lin-Manuel Miranda. Because of him, so many are returning to their history books!! Thank you, thank you!!

    Fantastic show!

by Mimi55 on 11/17/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Hamilton was probably the best Broadway show I’ve ever seen over the past 20 years! Beyond the best in everything, including the actors, singers, dancers, staging and dialogue. It was fast moving and it helped me to know the show and the songs ahead of time. I wish there was an elevator to reach the mezzanine and also more space in the seats for my knees. Overall, the cost is outrageous but the show was fabulous.

    Not disappointed

by Brian on 11/17/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

I heard it was a good show but I didn’t know too much about it. After over 2 years of waiting we were able to purchase tickets. The entire play is thru song. I couldn’t catch everything since it some different types of music I’m not used to but I wasn’t disappointed. Great show, every person could really sing n act.

    Too many substitutes

by Carol on 11/17/19Richard Rodgers Theatre - New York

Wow! Some of you want to know my reaction. First, I have to say that buying the Miranda&McCarter book was incredibly helpful in understanding both the music, the history, theme, and the choreography. It was also very helpful to me to have just seen “In the Heights”[another Miranda masterpiece utilizing rap] at the Dallas Theater Center. The rap dialogue was quickly not an issue. In fact, I got so wrapped up in the musical that I didn’t notice that it was rap...sort of like watching a Shakespearian play. I can’t say enough words about the set which was amazing and the lighting was mesmerizing—can’t explain it but the way lighting was used to enhance the scenes and give emphasis and to “set the tone” was brilliant as was the costuming! I was disappointed in that many of the parts were played by understudies tonight. However, it was well executed and received an immediate standing ovation. FYI, King George was hysterical and nearly stole the show. Will I remember this production..you bet! Do I recommend it, absolutely!
