    A wonderful night of entertainment!

by Dr. Joel on 11/23/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

It was terrific casting, terrific singing, and terrific dancing with fun staging. It felt safe with everyone having to show vaccination proof and everyone showing up with masks too. By all means go if you can get a ticket :-)

    Simply Wonderful

by CaryB on 11/23/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

It was so wonderful to see live theatre again and the National Tour of Hairspray did not disappoint. The entire cast was amazing and a special shout out to Andrew Levitt aka "Nina West!" He was so funny and endearing as Edna Turnblad. If this tour comes to your city do not miss this toe-tapper. you will be smiling from ear-to-ear.

by jody on 11/23/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

tickets were a present from my son for my birthday. My grandson, 8 years old, was my date. He was familiar with the songs. We had a great time and loved the play and all the cast members.

    Colorful, Fun, Relevant, Brilliant

by Carrie on 11/22/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

My daughter and I absolutely loved this production of Hairspray. The actors are all so talented with standouts being Motor Mouth and Edna. The choreography was exceptional and SO FUN to watch. From 1962 to 2021, this show is still relevant. Heavy is the fact that we still find our country in racial divide due to they systems still in place. We've come a long way but still have so much further to go. Hairspray addresses this throughout the story in brilliant ways. This show is so colorful, upbeat, and just plain joyful.

    First time for daughter

by Tammy on 11/22/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Finally got to share the Broadway play experience with our daughter. She is eight and she loved it. Glad things are getting back to normal as normal as can be. The theater was still well-maintained, we had access to restrooms and food and beverage. Check in was easy even with all the Covid checking. It was a magical night for the family.

    Welcome to the 60s

by L. J. on 11/21/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Greatest time ever with my granddaughter. We sang every song and couldn’t stop laughing. It was her first time attending a Broadway musical and she kept telling me what a great time she was having. I hope I am able to share many more opportunities with her like this one!

    Amazing Performance

by YouCantStopTheBeat on 11/20/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

Overall, the night was so much fun! The lines to get in were moving quickly. It was somewhat confusing to find our seats in the balcony, as not many employees seemed to be nearby to show the way. The performance was SO SO SO well done! Their voices were all incredible. The only thing that personally took away from our experience in the balcony section, was the amount of seemingly drunk, very loud people who found it appropriate to cheer & yell loudly in the middle of songs, over & over, & to also get up & move about at least 10 times. That is what the end of a song is for. That is what intermission is for. There was no etiquette here, as there is on Broadway in NYC. With that being said, it was still beautiful to watch these talented individuals perform after years off. Thank you, Hairspray & SDCC!

Get there sooner rather than later

by Show goer on 11/19/21San Diego Civic Theatre - San Diego

The show itself was fantastic as usual. The biggest caveat was the backlog of processing people through the metal detectors and checking proof of vaccination against proper ID. At 7pm there were still approximately 300-500 people waiting in line outside to be processed. Thank goodness they waited to start the show at 7:15 PM. Suggestion? …add more metal detectors and staff to process theater goers.
