About

GWAR IN CONCERT:

When it comes to gory thrash metal spectacle, no other band even comes close to the sick and twisted monstrosity that is GWAR. Taking the stage in gruesomely excellent costumes, the band executes their hilarious metal send-ups with a faux-macabre pageantry that approaches the divine, sacrificing celebrity effigies on stage and dousing entire audiences in fake blood. Whether they're unleashing "The New Plague" or demanding that "Zombies, March!", GWAR put on a show like no other act on earth, and despite longtime frontman David Brockie's recent passing the ever-dedicated band still plans to treat fans to select shows in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Formed in Virginia in 1984, GWAR developed an early following with their costumed, prop-filled, spectacle-heavy take on thrash metal. Simultaneously embracing and poking fun at the genre's extremes, the band struck a chord with audiences looking to indulge in metal's excesses without taking them too seriously. Their 1988 debut LP Hell-O was a huge hit in Germany, with subsequent albums like Carnival of Chaos (1997) and We Kill Everything (1999) enjoying considerable success in the US. Over the years, they've landed songs with titles like "Endless Apocalypse" and "War Is All We Know" on charts around the world, an impressive feat for a group of guys who claim the destruction of the human race as their primary goal. In early 2014, GWAR frontman David Brockie was found dead from unknown causes. In a show of tremendous fortitude and strength, the band announced several David Brockie memorial events and still plans to appear at select events throughout the year. Over the course of their career, GWAR have packed venues such as Irving Plaza (NYC), and the Depot (Salt Lake City).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gwar rocked, it was fun, the crowd was definitely into it. The pageantry was definitely funny and fun. Be prepared to get covered in blood..."

"If you like metal and have a sick sense of humor, go see them. What a festival of blood, theatrics, and crisply played thrash metal. GWAR was a complete spectacle ."

"GWAR nailed it. Theatrics were well balanced; new album cut is sick. Eagerly awaiting the next show."

    GWAR blew it away!

by ashwell on 10/25/09The National - Richmond

GWAR was definately worth the wait! They delivered everything that was expected! Blinded by Madness on the other hand left me wishing I had slept a little longer and been late for the show....

For 25 years GWAR has been awesome. They put on one hell of a show and their music is kick ass. And they are not greedy like say Metallica and want to charge $150 a ticket. Bottom line is GWAR is awesome and always will be.

    Gwar - 25th anniversary?

by hellbye on 10/19/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

This should not really be referred to as their '25th anniversary' tour. They're playing lots of new stuff, and not really giving you much from the older (better?) days. If I would have known, I would have stayed home.

    I love the Pigs

by Anonymous on 10/19/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Gwar was an amazing experience, and full of laughs. It first starts off with a movie that is a parody of VH1's behind the Music only its called Behind the Murder, and then the show starts, and before you know it you are completely drenched in "blood" and watching some Scumdogians getting disembowled. My favorite part was their fight with Cardinal Sin, who infact is a 10 foot tall robot. The show kept me absolutely entertained through out the whole set, and for the cheap price of 20 bucks, Id suggest it to any metal fan.

    Gwar geat! Show.. just Ok

by frutbol on 10/19/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I've seen Gwar 7 times over the last 20 years and maybe that's why my thoughts on last nights show were just "OK". I have several other shows to compare it too. Yes, there was plenty of fluids spewing from the stage. Yes, the use of the videos behind the band were a nice new touch. The stage antics and show "plot" were weak compared to previous tours. The song selection was fairly poor though they did cover a lot of new material. Maybe they're slowing down a bit - I know I am. After the show I thought to myself : was the show just a bit flat, or am I reaching a point were live shows don't stimulate me like they did in the past. Maybe the answer is yes to both. It was nice seeing such a young crowd there. As far as the venue. I have never been to an event where they held the crowd inside the venue for 30 minutes after the show ended. I believe they would not let the concert goers out of the building until they had sufficient POLICE presence outside (about 20 to 30 officers) ! Is this what has happened to metal! The cops need to be present because they feel it was a hostile gathering? Most sporting events have more intense FANatics. From what I gathered, the crowd worked out all their frustrations INSIDE the venue. If you've never seen Gwar - go! If you are a long time veteran of the band you may be a tiny bit dissapointed.

    Gwar

by bdskull419 on 10/19/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

It doesn't really matter what kind of music you're into, Gwar is a show that any concert goer should see once in their lifetime. Even if you're not into metal, Gwar's theatrics and overall presentation is absoultly outa this world. This was their 25th anniversary tour. I've been going for about 5-6 years now, and they have proven their worth it every single time.

    AWSOME!!!!!!

    by Herg1 on 10/18/09Harpos - Detroit

Gwar has always had a very theatrical show and the 25th anniversary show was no different. When the lights went down the whole crowd was chanting Gwar,Gwar, Gwar, in anticipation of the band taking the stage, but instead the intro went into Gwar, "Behind the music." A ten minute presentation that was definitly a parody of Vh1's show of the same name, It was hilarious! When the band did take the stage, they took it by force! Non- stop heavy metal and much maiming of different characters from the scumdog universe, with lots of blood and semen spraying all over the entire floor at Harpos concert theater. If there is anyone out there who has never seen Gwar in person, do so at your earliest convenience!

    AGAIN

    by maggie1883 on 10/17/09GWAR - Detroit

I just got my husband tickets to go see GWAR "AGAIN". This time he took his son that is 11. He likes GWAR so much he has to introduce his son to the theatrical part of GWAR instead of just listening to it in the van. I wonder if our son will figure out that they are saying "Fish F_CK" and not what he thinks which he was taught 'Fish Farts". UGH! Nice of me eh? to get my husband ticket for Gwar when he should be with me for sweetest day. And oh yeah, he didnt have time to get me anything.

by MagicHippy on 10/13/09First Avenue - Minneapolis

The first band was not Job for a cowboy they were replaced be deathcamp who was not that good. Would much have rather seen Job for a cowboy. The red cord was awesome when they finally got set up and there guitarist got to the venue. When GWAR came on stage the crowd went nuts and the show was amazing. The killing of michael jackson Obama and other space mutants and robots.

    Gwar Is Amazing!

by sgtstewy on 10/12/09Masquerade - Atlanta

WOW! I've always liked Gwar but never had a chance to see them live. Let me say that this show changed my life. It was the highlight of my life, above my wedding and the birth of my first son.

    Great time

    by 4thTime on 10/12/09Masquerade - Atlanta

The show was great! The usual blood and guts and funny storyline. This was my fourth year going and I have enjoyed everyone! If blood, guts, and crude humor offend you. Don't go. If you have a dark sense of humor, like loud and heavy music, it is a must see! Also..........The bar tender is HOT!

    Gwar was amazing, but...

by Anonymous on 10/7/09Masquerade - Atlanta

The show itself was amazing. Gwar, as usual, were top notch. The venue itself was nice as well. Sadly, the people who attended weren't very good. This was the first Gwar show I'd been to in Atlanta and the attendees were rather idiotic and rude for the most part. It wasn't bad enough to make the show not enjoyable, but was enough to warrant losing a star.

    Gwar in Alanta

by mattchupichu on 10/7/09Masquerade - Atlanta

I thought it was a pretty decent show yesterday at the Masquerade. They played the usual songs that I like so I was very content with that. The only thing I wish was that they would completely drown the crowd after the show with the cannon of fake blood, but that's obviously minor. But in all respects, definitely a good show and i would suggest seeing them some time this year!

    I've seen better

    by BRAD32 on 10/7/09Masquerade - Atlanta

I was a little let down by a so called 25th anniversary tour. They only played about 10 or 11 songs(which most of them were new ones) and there was far less excitement and interaction from the band than in previous years. The show seemed a little stale. GWAR is worth seeing if you have never experienced it, but if you you're a die hard, you might just be let down.

Great GWAR show but didn't top others

by Hastor on 10/7/09Masquerade - Atlanta

This was a fantastic GWAR show as always. The venue's stage was a bit low, so you were either up close near the mosh pit and unable to see, which sucks at a show with so many stage props and costumes, or you were in the back and could see, but were so far away it was hard to make out anything. The main opening band, Job for a Cowboy, didn't make it for some reason. Slymenstra's absence takes away one really cool element, I hope she returns at some point. Overall they had some great new props and it was a GWAR show and everything you'd expect.

    GWAR WAS AWESOME!!!!

by Moniquer on 10/6/09Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

Gwar was a very cool concert. The music was great, the special effects, costumes and show was very energizing!!! Great entertainment. Got everyone hyper and ready to slam dance!!! Even if in a party of three!!!!!!!! We were going to start our own mosh pit upstairs!!!!!!!!! Everyone enjoyed it!!! All ages. The only disturbing fact is WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE BABY BASHING???? Leave little babies alone. Kill whatever and dismember anything you want, it's just a show, but come on, what's with the babies. The first time they showed a baby getting killed, well, ok, we can somewhat over look it...disturbing...but ok, we'll look the other way. The second time Hummmm, not liking it. The third, fourth and fifth. Enough already with killing and raping the babies!!! REMOVE THEM FROM THE SHOW, IT'S NOT FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Other than that, kudos!!!

First time definately not the last!!!!

by Maleki on 10/5/09Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

I've been a fan of GWAR for about 16 years and just now got to see them live. I didn't really care for the opening bands, but GWAR made up for that even though I didn't get any "blood" on me, the show was still great and I can't wait for them to come back around again. HAIL GWAR!!!!

    GWAR is a legendary experience!

by Everett on 10/4/09Revolution Live - Ft Lauderdale

So, I've been wanting to see gwar for the past few years but could never get the time off from school or whatever, and now I finally got to see them! The experience was legendary! After years of seeing them on tv, on this, on that, nearly getting banned from everything, their epic stage shows made this seem like an unreal dream. Actually being in the pit, getting covered in blood was just... awesome. Nothing like it really. Seeing them in person is FAR from seeing them in a video. The real experience is to DIE for. :)
