BROADWAY’S FUNNIEST NEW MUSICAL
“SO MUCH FUN IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL.”
– The Times of London
WINNER! BEST MUSICAL
2017 Olivier Award
Karma can be a funny thing. So when a big-city weatherman gets stuck in small-town America, laughter is in the forecast. With his unique look on life, Phil Connors is always ready with a one-liner or clever quip about the all-too cheery people of Punxsutawney. But one extraordinary day is about to show Phil that maybe the joke is really on him. Andy Karl stars in the role that won him the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Actor in the new Broadway musical that Entertainment Weekly calls, “a wonderfully inventive show, with dazzling energy, creativity, wit, and heart.”
This show is a must see !! Everything about it was brilliant. Unforgettably Hilarious !!
Big song and dance routine musical. Use of multiple turntables was interesting.
Groundhog Day is a very entertaining show, full of great scenery and sets and excellent acting and singing. Andy Karl is amazing, running around the stage on a torn ACL!
I haven't seen a whole lot of musicals on Broadway, but the stagecraft here is the very best I've ever seen. It would be hard to believe that it could get better than this.
I really wanted to like this show, but I absolutely couldn't. It was dreadful. The attempts at humor were driven by sophomoric vulgarity. How many birds can one flip or make references to "balls" and get a laugh? I couldn't care less about the characters or the score. I've never left a show at intermission, but this was the first. Couldn't get to the door fast enough. How did this ever get to Broadway? Sorry. Spend you money on a good show. There are plenty of amazing options on stage right now, don't waste your time with this.
Creative, funny, and high energy, great adaptation
Overall a good show- not spectacular . All four of enjoyed it , with a few very good musical numbers and a few ok numbers. Would only go with a discount .Excellent set design
We saw Andrew Call in the lead. He was phenomena, as was the rest of the cast. The show is very funny and very physical. It was better to see it with a healthy understudy than with an actor with a torn ACL.
Wasn't sure what to expect and am normally not a huge fan of Broadway musicals but laughed and was entertained from start to finish. The understudy played lead role due to injury for the lead but it was all good! Funny, colorful and energetic. Wasn't sure why Nancy has a solo, seemed like a filler type of moment but would definitely recommend.
Let Groundhog Day brighten your day! There is never a dull moment in this fast moving production full of great performances. You will want to see it again and again!
Loved this so much. Funny, uplifting and just plain brilliant. The set production...off the chain. Can't recommend this one enough.
The imagination behind the presentation is simply wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyable play - highly recommended.
Despite Andy Karl being absent (injured), the show lived up to all our expectations. It bowled along at a furious pace, with high energy performances by all the cast. The songs were wonderful and witty (Tim Minchin is a genius). This is a show not to be missed.
Highly recomended! Great wonderful funny and moving.
Such a fun show! I was fortunate enough to see Andrew Call as Phil- wow!! He was fantastic!! I'd love to see it again!
very smart staging. essence of movie brought forth without slavish adherence to original screenplay. many great themes: kindness to others, altruism, empathy, discipline, hard work all important to fight depression which is at the heart of the story. not only protagonist but backstory of multiple characters very smartly and efficiently brought out.
Tremendous fun! Saw this during opening week and smiled and laughed through the whole performance. The music is terrific, the ensemble fantastic, and the staging very inventive (Phil's disappearing acts and the way they approached vehicles were stand-out effects). Andrew Call filled in for Andy Karl, and while I'm sorry for the latter's injury, Andrew was absolutely fabulous as was the rest of the cast. This was no re-tread of the movie, and I expect great things for this show. Bravo!
Despite having the same story line as the classic film, it is a purely theatrical experience. Moreover, the production is so compelling that it is hard to imagine it any better with the original lead, now sidelined with a torn ACL, Its imaginative, charming and is set in one of the more comfortable Broadway houses. Most ambitious is its attempt to take the existential theme of the film and dig deeper . At the same time, it employs razzle dazzle as only a Iive, professional Broadway production can. Only a so-so score keeps it from getting five stars
Hilariously funny production of the film of the same name. The understudy in the lead role of Phil Connors was fantastic. The set was amazing and all the performers very professional. Songs were brilliantly funny. I would love to watch this again if it comes back to London.
I loved how the basic structure of repeating a day over and over until it's right was preserved while deepening the messaage.
