About

GRIZZLY BEAR IN CONCERT:

With their ethereal four-part vocal harmonies, a strong indie rock base, and a healthy dose of psychedelic experimentation, Grizzly Bear have become the accessible arthouse torchbearers of millennials who rock. At their live shows, they effuse beautifully dissonant melodies anchored by sharp instrumentation, topping it all off with stunning visuals. As they contemplate a follow-up to 2013's Shields, Grizzly Bear will leave it all on stage for fans at select 2014 tour dates, which include several solo appearances by band member Daniel Rossen.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Originally a solo project for frontman Ed Droste in the early '00s, Brooklyn's Grizzly Bear slowly grew into a full band of proportionately talented performers. They started to make serious critical waves with their first release as a full-quartet, 2006's Yellow House, landing on the Top 10 year-end lists of several major media outlets. Their major break came, however, in 2008 when their tourmates Radiohead dubbed them their favorite band at the time — a huge endorsement by an even huger band. This public recommendation propelled their next album, 2008's Veckatimest, into the indie-rock stratosphere, making the band a household name among the dorm-room set. The band has since released another record and continues to tour relentlessly.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Perfect sound, perfect setlist, perfect venue, top notch!"

"Simon and Garfunkel + Beach Boys + Doo Wop + Brooklyn Hipsters = Grizzly Bear. Close vocal harmony by four amazing voices. Esoteric lyrics, sophisticated arrangement and production. Lights and fog. Transcendent."

"Great show! Music was beautiful; the light set up was beautiful and magical"

    Grizzly Bear was mind-blowing.

by SonofDolemite on 4/1/13Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

Grizzly Bear played an amazing set. I feel like there may have been some technical difficulties but if there were then the band didn't let it show. Seats were perfect. Staff was very friendly and generous. I wish I could see the same show again. The crowd was a little rowdy for such a mellow performance but you can't choose your crowd, and I rather enjoyed the clapping during the last song of the encore. I hope the band liked it too, as it was actually in time with the music unlike what happens at most concerts where the audience has no sense of tempo.

    very talented

by jerseygirl1031 on 4/1/13Carnegie Music Hall of Oakland - Pittsburgh

My family and I really enjoyed the concert. I was not sure what to expect since this is not my usual musical taste. They were great and I really appreciated how talented they were. Fun to experience something different! The opening act of Owen Pallet was amazing!

Setting the bar too high ??

by TheRealMrsPotatoHead on 11/17/12Orpheum Theatre - Boston

To see a band that I hold respectfully high on many levels perform live, I was hoping for it all. The sound quality was good and I especially enjoy perfomances at the Orpheum. Although I was definitely disappointed that they had hired a studio musician to accompany them. Overall a great show, just mildly heartbreaking for dedicated fans.

    So chill and pretty

by Paradisco on 10/16/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Grizzly Bear is so polished live. They played a good mix of new and old songs. Each member sings so well and it's fun to see who sings what for each song.

Face melting. Almost believed that the sound of Grizzly Bear's performance melted me into the decently comfortable plastic seat at the Greek theatre. The band (as well as the opening act) performed with little to no audible imperfection other than the incredibly high treble of both bands during a couple of songs (at most) each.

by MovieMace on 10/15/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

The Greek is a wonderful place to see a show, especially when there's a solid band up on the stage. Grizzly Bear always puts on a fun and impassioned show. Glad I got to see them at one of my favorite venues!

    Boring

by Hiphopisbetterthanindie on 10/13/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Definitely one of the most boring concerts I've ever seen. People in the pit were standing still the whole night. Light show was sub par.

    Grizzly Bear is astonishing!

Although I didn't car for the venue and it wasn't as intimate as I would have wanted, I loved the set that Grizzly Bear put on.

    Beautiful Voices and Instrumentation

by DaveyKrockett on 10/12/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

What an awesome display of the prowess of Grizzly Bear as a live band! The group executed their intricate arrangements and lush harmonies with what appeared to be relative ease, and it truly was a pleasure to hear and watch. Whether it be the inventive rhythms from their drummer and percussionist, the fluid bass lines, unique guitar patterns, and beautiful vocal arrangements, Grizzly Bear put on a stellar performance. See this band live, they are among the best bands currently writing and performing music in 2012.

by Sapphire4 on 10/12/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

I have always been a fan of Grizzly Bear, but their live performance far exceeded my expectations! They demonstrated beautiful musicality, played a wide variety of songs (both old and new), and employed engaging lighting/stage effects. This is one of those bands who is even more amazing live than in a recording studio. I will DEFINITELY be seeing them again :)

    Grizzly Bear rocks

by BrandenB on 10/12/12Greek Theatre - Los Angeles

Grizzly Bear is amazing live just as you'd imagine they'd be. Vocals sound great, and even the little intricate sounds you would think would be added in the editing room are present with sound boards and unexpected musical instruments. They played a great mix of old intertwined with new, so that everyone is happy. And their light show had these rad lanterns that rose and fell with each song. These guys are great. Can't wait to see them again live.
