About

GRIMES IN CONCERT:

In concert, Canadian critical darling Grimes creates a one-woman whirlwind of lush samples to conjure her catchy, electro dream-pop. Far from merely pushing play, the singer layers her angelic vocals in real time to produce otherworldly soundscapes. Her elaborate harmonies give the electronic songs a human core, due in no small part to her thoughtfully crafted lyrics. To top it off, Grimes throws trance-inducing keyboard runs over her looping beats and vocals, adding a melodic edge to tracks like “REALiTi”, “Oblivion” and “Genesis”. Appearing on Lana Del Rey’s Endless Summer Tour in 2015, Grimes promises to give ticket buyers an invigorating, cerebral experience with her extraordinary blend of human passion and technological precision.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Grimes, aka Claire Elise Boucher, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1988. Most of her musical background comes from studying ballet for 11 years as a child, though she didn’t play any instruments until she went to McGill University in Montreal. In the late '00s she began borrowing musical equipment from her friends to produce experimental electronica under the name Grimes. The prodigious young talent soon made her 2010 cassette debut with Geidi Primes, which was reissued on CD and vinyl after she earned an opening spot for Lykke Li in 2011. Her third album, 2012’s Visions, received a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork, which also named her single “Oblivion”the best song of the year. As fans eagerly awaited a follow up to Visions, the singer released the single “REALiTi” in 2015 only weeks before she began touring in support of Lana Del Rey.

Grimes is good but not worth facing opening acts

by sadgrimesfan on 10/27/12Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Grimes is a great performer and was tons of fun but her opening bands, Mykki Blanco and Myths, were so unbearably bad that most of my friends and I had to leave sporadically to get relief from the oppressing barrage of hipster noise, whether Blanco's sad excuse for rap or the trend-chasing Knife knockoff sound of Myths. Furthermore, the crowd at Grimes shows is incredibly annoying. Her fans range from normal, mid 20s people to psycho-goths who don't have control of their outer extremities. My advice: either show up late enough to miss the opening bands and choose a vantage point far from the cut-through mosh pit at the front OR keep listening to Visions on your headphones and forget the show.

Grimes opening act was some really awful weird electronic experimental band myths who had no talent for real music or creating an enjoyable concert experience. Grimes played a good show but didn't stimulate the crowd at all and played a super short set. Wasnt worth the money at all.

Live = Better than the album

by CameronQ on 10/27/12Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Grimes's latest album has gotten heavy play in my life for months. Love it. However, the live performances of her stuff far exceeded her recordings. Everything was deeper and more fleshed out, not to mention the songs sound great pumped through serious speakers that kick out the low end. Might be stubhubbing tix to see them again tonight! It was that good. As a bonus, the opening act, Myths, was incredible. Their set made fans of everyone there and then they performed with Grimes for her entire set, twisting knobs, singing, & dancing. Awesomeness!
