GRIMES IN CONCERT:

In concert, Canadian critical darling Grimes creates a one-woman whirlwind of lush samples to conjure her catchy, electro dream-pop. Far from merely pushing play, the singer layers her angelic vocals in real time to produce otherworldly soundscapes. Her elaborate harmonies give the electronic songs a human core, due in no small part to her thoughtfully crafted lyrics. To top it off, Grimes throws trance-inducing keyboard runs over her looping beats and vocals, adding a melodic edge to tracks like “REALiTi”, “Oblivion” and “Genesis”. Appearing on Lana Del Rey’s Endless Summer Tour in 2015, Grimes promises to give ticket buyers an invigorating, cerebral experience with her extraordinary blend of human passion and technological precision.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Grimes, aka Claire Elise Boucher, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1988. Most of her musical background comes from studying ballet for 11 years as a child, though she didn’t play any instruments until she went to McGill University in Montreal. In the late '00s she began borrowing musical equipment from her friends to produce experimental electronica under the name Grimes. The prodigious young talent soon made her 2010 cassette debut with Geidi Primes, which was reissued on CD and vinyl after she earned an opening spot for Lykke Li in 2011. Her third album, 2012’s Visions, received a Best New Music nod from Pitchfork, which also named her single “Oblivion”the best song of the year. As fans eagerly awaited a follow up to Visions, the singer released the single “REALiTi” in 2015 only weeks before she began touring in support of Lana Del Rey.

Amazing! Can't wait to see her again. I wanted to get close so I stayed downstairs, but next time I would go to the balcony because I'm very short and it was packed, so it was hard to see!

    Decent show, but too short

by GabeMouse on 6/6/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

She came on at like 9.50 and got off--encore included--at 10.50 or thereabouts. About one hour of music. Crowded so we spent a lot of time searching for the right angle to see what was going on. Kind of breezed through show. Good music though.

    The Most Incredible Show Ever!

by Anonymous on 6/6/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

I have seen Grimes once before, and I didn't think she could get better. She did! I loved every moment of the concert, the crowd was rocking, Electric Factory Filled to the brim! She extended many songs and did on the spot special things!

    Too short!

    by blanche2negru on 6/6/16Electric Factory - Philadelphia

Grimes is a great entertainer, but her live performance doesn't sound much different than studio recorded stuff. I may even enjoy it better when streaming it than when seeing it live. Truth, watching the live performance for Kill V. Maim was certainly worth it, but the price tag for this super-short show (~ 1 hour) was way too high. All in all, pricey, and not really worth it. Happy to listen to her stuff through my headphones.

    Grimes rocked the house!

    by meaculpa20v on 4/26/16Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

I've been waiting a very long time to see Grimes. It just seemed that I was never available when she was rolling through town. Grimes did not disappoint. Definitely the loudest concert I have ever been to at the Fox, and possibly ever. She and her dancers/back up singers were entertaining on stage. The music was well performed. She does it all her own. She is also very endearingly awkward with her stage fright. I loved it. I'll get to see her again at Outside Lands this year but I'm glad I got to see her in a smaller indoor venue first.

    Grimes was Amazing!

    by Jacqui89 on 11/24/15Metropolis - Montreal

Grimes put on an amazing show! She was fully energized, danced around a lot and her vocals and music were fantastic! We started out in the front on the floor but it became far too aggressive and out of control so we had to move back. The only 2 down falls were that I wanted more than just an hour of her performing but it's understandable that the whole performance must have taken a lot out of her- it would anyone, and the other being that I couldn't enjoy her show from close because the crowd was just too out of control. I can't wait to see her again!

This show was so much fun! Really high energy songs and the crowd was really into it. Grimes was an enthusiastic performer, even while wearing leg brace. The sound and lights were excellent.

    Absolutely out of this world!

by shannonltenney on 11/23/15Paradise Rock Club - Boston

This concert was absolutely out of this world! Like, I cannot even begin to describe to you the amazement I felt once she came on stage. Not only was she super kind and welcoming, but her set list was absolutely on point. The dancers on stage were also incredibly cool and she was just overall fantastic. I would say if you haven't already, buy these tickets. I was in line waiting to go in for the concert and was speaking to someone else and they said that tickets sold out in four minutes, so if you really want to go for a good price I would get them as soon as possible. I say this because I only paid $33 for this incredible experience because I got them the minute they came out, compared to other people who had to pay up to $75 buying them from others. Just a word from the wise.

    FREE GRIMES

by Skedder on 11/21/15Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

I have always been on the fence about the generally polarizing Grimes. Half of my musical friends love her and the other half can't stand her. I've always just been okay with her. I was glad to finally have the opportunity to see her live and make up my own mind. Although I didn't think I'd get in, even with a ticket (We were told that the venue was at capacity even with 100+ people on line a half hour before show time), we did finally get inside. After a solid set by Nicole Dollanganger mostly performed in the dark (an annoying trend, I'm afraid), Grimes came out with three dancers. As an devoted "indie" fan, the dancers were a dead giveaway where Grimes sits on a scale between let's say, Taylor Swift and oh, St. Vincent. Live, Grimes is more the electronic diva than the experimental music goddess. It was a dance concert, first and foremost. I still love to hear Genesis and Oblivion, but I think I had given Grimes too much credit over the years. She was not as weird as I hoped or wanted her to be. She came off too mainstream for my tastes. I guess Grimes has made a decision to seek popular commercial appeal. That's fine, but I doubt I'll be along for the ride. The show was only 45 minutes as Grimes declared herself "fluey". No encore. Under the circumstances, she gets a "A" for effort. However, not an A for content.

    Grimes is the new

by rlsny on 11/19/15Terminal 5 - New York

Grimes' new album was so anticipated that everyone had an opinion before they even heard it. All I can tell you is go see her in concert. This was one of her first shows of the tour and NY loved it. Her energy level was through the roof, the crowd was ecstatic. Keep an open mind and dance your butt off. Grimes is charting new territory that's not indie or pop or EDM. It's just Grimes - she does her own writing, producing and performing - and she is awesome. I've been to Terminal 5 many times. It is a great simple hall where you can get up close with a couple thousand of your friends. Will be back for sure.

I don't usually love Terminal 5, but Grimes filled the space really well and made a huge show feel personal. Lighting and sound were on point.

    Grimes - entertaining fun atmosphere

by TheHim on 11/4/15The Fillmore - San Francisco

Grimes took command of the stage and the crowd perfectly. She brought her A game in performance and interaction. Fun concert - very lively! Ms Grimes has a foot cast on but that didn't slow her down at all. Looking forward to seeing her again in all of her glory!
