GREGORY ALAN ISAKOV IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov has been enthralling audiences with his strong vocals and smooth acoustic tunes since the mid-'90s. His solo live performances are filled with passion and emotion, and he tells affecting stories with powerful lyrics on fan favorites like "The Stable Song" and "Big Black Car". Whether he's strumming his Gibson or performing alongside a full orchestra, Isakov commands the stage with ease and has ticket buyers coming out in droves to his exciting live shows.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Johannesburg and raised in Pennsylvania, Gregory Alan Isakov got his start at age 16 touring with a local band. While in college at Naropa University, Isakov began penning songs about his travels and worldly experiences and collaborated with other musicians on campus. His acoustic-driven music and narrative lyrics truly took shape when he recorded and released his 2003 debut Rust Colored Stones, an earthy album that showcased his songwriting talents and soothing vocals. He’s spent time on the road touring the US, Canada, and Europe with his band and has gained a devoted following along the way. Since then Isakov has released three more acclaimed albums including 2013’s Weatherman, which peaked at No. 1 on the Top Heatseekers Albums chart and earned major critical praise. With his solid collection of folk ballads, the humble singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist creates an intimate experience for concertgoers every time he takes the stage.

  • Awesome as usual

by JRSD on 9/17/25Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

As was to be expected, an evening with Gregory was exciting and fulfilling. The band gave their all for this final concert on the tour with lots of old classics and a multiple song Encore. Exceptional energy from the band and audience. This is the perfect size venue with great acoustics no matter where you sit. We love it. Who doesn't love sitting outside on a beautiful San Diego evening in the 70's enjoying incredible music. Totally satisfied and waiting for his return to San Diego next year!

  • World Class Performance = Unmatched Musical Experience

by KenS on 9/17/25Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

GAI and his band are beyond compare. “Liars” is the best live song I’ve ever experienced. I’m in my 60’s and have seen concerts by Steppenwolf when I was eight, to Fleetwod Mac front and center, and Adrienne Lenker with my teenage daughter, so I’ve seen dozens of shows. At this covert, each song filled me with awe, from the depths of evoked hurt to reverberating soul-bending energy. Just a great show.

Great night in a perfect venue! The show did not disappoint, just wish they would’ve had an opening act.

Brilliant performance. Loved every minute of it! It would be nice if the venue would limit the use of cell phone video taping...guest in front of us taped the entire show.

It was one of the best concerts I've been to, and the production it's probably the best I've ever heard. Gregory and the band were awesome, and the venue was great, very intimate

  • Such deep talent, leaves me in awe

    by PeggyO-Oakland on 9/14/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

This was the first seated show I've been to at the Greek, and it was great! A whole calmer vibe, and ther just isn't a bad seat in the place. Josiah without the Bonneville's opened, and he is on my faves short list. I get the feeling he would never believe he is in the same sphere as Isakov, but love is love, you know? His set was great. I hope to be able to see him again soon. Isakov and his absolutely amazing band! OMG. I was mesmerized for the whole show. I think I will be a groupie for the next couple years, travel around the world and just be there, mesmerized.

  • Lovely music, even better in person

    by Shrinkhorn on 9/14/25Greek Theatre-U.C. Berkeley - BerkeleyRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoy his music. He has a lovely voice, writes good lyrics and his music is characterized by deep longing/yearning and poignancy. In person, he is dynamic, engaging and his band is forceful. The music holds up and he and his band deliver the goods. The concert is what we look for in a live performance.

  • A definite must see!

This concert deserves more than five stars! I’ve seen him in Ireland & Sacramento, & now, Berkeley. I LOVE his music & his band is AMAZING! A definite must see!!
