GREG LASWELL IN CONCERT:

San Diego native Greg Laswell is a dynamic indie singer-songwriter who’s been wowing audiences since making his debut in 2006 with Through Toledo. Audiences can’t help but be moved when he sings popular tunes like "Comes and Goes (In Waves)" alongside covers of Kate Bush's "This Woman's Work" and others during his chilled-out shows. Laswell is a dynamic performer who can pull on fans' heartstrings with his passionate tunes and also have them bursting with laughter when he delivers witty banter between songs. Known for bringing out special guests on tour -- including his wife and fellow collaborator Ingrid Michaelson -- Laswell always delivers a show full of surprises and sentiment whenever he takes the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Greg Laswell got his start in 1998 as the frontman of the band Shillglen, achieving moderate success a year later with their debut Sometimes I Feel. After the band broke up in 2001, Laswell decided to pursue a solo career as a singer-songwriter and recorded and released his breakout full-length LP Good Movie (2003), which won Best Local Recording at the San Diego Music Awards. He followed up with 2006's Through Toledo -- an album that resonated with fans and featured the popular tune "Sing, Theresa Says". He's toured around the world as a supporting act for occasional collaborators Sia and Ingrid Michaelson, and he’s headlined several sold-out shows of his own. Since the release of Through Toledo Laswell has recorded four more acclaimed albums, had his music featured in numerous films and television shows, and become widely known within the underground indie scene. His powerful, must-see live performances are perfect for fans of emotive acoustic music, witty humor, and impeccable musicianship.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Greg Laswell was, and always is, amazing! I have seen him at least four times and am never disappointed. Heart breaking songs with witty, humorous banter in between."

"He was amazing! Even better live! I was blown away by how talented and charming he is. He played all my favorite songs, the show was better than I expected!!"

"Greg Laswell is one of the most talented musicians around, and he proves it every time I see him live. Not only does he sound great, but his stage presence is outstanding. He cracks jokes between songs, opens up to the audience to tell stories, and really makes a connection with everyone there."

Everyone should see Greg. We make a point to see him every time he comes to town - though we much prefer the venues that serve adult beverages. But Greg is awesome in any venue.

by indierocker617 on 5/28/10Paradise Rock Club - Boston

Awesome performance by Jimmy, mixing new(ish) songs from his solo album and older faves (Here is the Light & Ran Away to Tell the World). Great set, hope he comes back to The Paradise soon. One of my favorite Boston venues.

    Greg Laswell was breathtaking!!!

by kaed on 5/26/10House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

The show was great! It was in the small room, so it made it much more of a personal concert. Jimmy Necko was tewrrible, and almost made me want to leave early. But Laswell came on and made me forget anything that was bad. He was so down to earth and sang so beautifully! it was a great show!!!!!

Greg is both hilarious and talented

by CountingCrows22 on 5/26/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

First off, the bowery ballroom concert served as a bit of a homecoming for the NYC native. After an opening act by Jimmy Gnecco, Greg took the stage mixing some of his older material with his new album "Take a Bow". The night was unique in that Greg said that he felt less like he was putting on a show, more like he was just hanging out.

    Greg Laswell - always amazing!

by Summer29 on 5/26/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

It was another amazing performance by Greg Laswell! This was only my second time seeing him live (first time was at Joe's Pub) and I didn't think it could get any better, but it did! Not only is he a talented song-writer, singer, and musician, but he really knows how to connect to his audience. He sang a mix of old and new songs from his albums and told many funny stories in between. I absolutely love watching him perform and listening to his music, but I think what I like best about him is his sense of humor. He always seems to get the audience laughing with him. His fan base ranges in age from teenagers to middle-aged men and women. I actually brought my husband and our two teenagers to the show and we all had a great time. The only negative was that doors opened at 7:30 PM and Greg didn't go on until 10:30 PM after making us stand through two 1 hour each long opening acts. My family and I were not big fans of the second act, Jimmy Gnecco.

    Greg Laswell-2 Shows in One

by MichelleISme on 5/26/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

Greg Laswell at the Bowery Ballroom was simply wonderful. The fact that now he is touring with a band makes his sound more dynamic. What adds even more to the show is his personality. You go to the concert thinking u're going strictly there for the music...WRONG..lol u're also getting a sort of comedic experience because he's so funny and charming and it transferred into the audience. He was joking with us and we were joking with him. By the end of the night it felt like a group of friends listening to friend, who's extremely musically talented, play his music as opposed to fans listening to an artist. Great show! I will NEVER forget it.

    An Incredible Night of Music

by AngeloftheWaters on 5/26/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

The show at Bowery Ballroom opened with Brian Wright asking the audience to sing "You Are My Sunshine". It changed the atmosphere in the building and had everyone smiling. Plus we even sounded good. Mr. Wright continued to play a wonderful set both solo and with fellow musicians that also play with Greg Laswell. Brian Wright has a really nice voice, good tone, easy manner, and his storytelling songs have a taste of the South. After a very short intermission, we were delighted by the music of Jimmy Gnecco, who you may know as the front man for OURS. If you haven't heard him, you don't know what you're missing. He has the most amazing vocal abilities as well as being a great songwriter and musician. He was accompanied by some of the members from OURS periodically as well as Greg Laswell's band. Jimmy also performed some beautiful, moving songs solo. This was my first time seeing Greg Laswell. He and his band completely won me over. He has a great sense of humor, good stage presence, is an accomplished musician and has some great songs. He and his band, which included Brian Wright, a young lady named Collette on cello, a bassist and drummer, had an easy camaraderie which overflowed into the audience. At one point, Greg stated that he felt he wasn't doing a show anymore, but more like we were all just hanging out. At that, the crowd applauded and screamed. They did a long set and then came out to perform several more songs for the encore. We in the audience didn't want the night to end.

greg laswell is the bees' knees

by laurafo on 5/26/10Bowery Ballroom - NEW YORK

pretty much everything about this show was amazing: the audience, the staff at the bowery, and most of all, greg himself. the first opener was great, but the second one really wasn't my taste. i was getting that same vibe from many people around me. however, mr. laswell made up for it by putting on one of the most wonderful shows i've ever been to.

    Greg Laswell

by TigerlillyRose on 5/15/107th Street Entry - Minneapolis

Greg Laswell and his band are talented artists and I love their music. The venue was a disappointment, however. The sound quality was horrific at the 7th Street Entry. My friend and I were sad that Greg didn't go on until 11:30 pm also and his show seemed to be over too quickly. Greg deserves a better venue. This place didn't do his music justice.

Greg Laswell and David Ryan Harris

by scdxii on 2/26/10RED ROOM AT CAFÉ 939 - Boston

The rain did not keep people away from the Red Room at Cafe 939 on Tuesday night. It was a packed house for Greg Laswell and David Ryan Harris’ show earlier this week. I’ve been meaning to see these guys for some time now and I was thrilled to finally catch a set from both of them…at the same time! After playing earlier this month, this show marked the end of Greg Laswell’s solo mini-residency at the Red Room. The night started out with a great set from David Ryan Harris. Aside from being one of John Mayer’s guitarists, DRH is a phenomenal singer (he has a ridiculous range…) and is also quite the comic. The atmosphere was relaxed throughout the entire set as most of the audience was sitting on the floor giving DRH’s performance a laid-back feel. One of the highlights of the show for me was “Pretty Girl” – DRH managed to sneak in a little bit of Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get it On” and John Mayer’s “Your Body is a Wonderland” in there for a fun medley. After that, the crowd was ready to sing-a-long with his new song “Can We Get Down” which I loved. One of his last songs, “Still Be Loving You”, hit a personal note with me and as soon as it’s released it’s going straight to my iPod. Overall, it was an awesome set from DRH and I’m anticipating seeing him (hopefully) again soon! Next up was Greg Laswell, who I mostly know from his song placements on Grey’s Anatomy and some commercials here and there. Greg put me at ease right from the start with his mellow demeanor. A few songs that I was happy to hear were “How the Day Sounds”, “Comes and Goes” and “Sing, Theresa Says”. I was also glad Greg played “Come Undone” which I recognized from the commercial for Friday Night Lights. Though the music was fantastic, I also loved Greg’s in-between song banter, it was some of the best I’ve heard in a long time. I’ll never say no to music and comedy in one night. My personal favorite was his story about having to learn how to sing one of his songs backwards for his latest music video shoot – he even sang it for us. To close things out, Greg gave us a killer version of “Amazing Grace” which surprised me but I really enjoyed it. There’s no doubt that when Greg’s performing, ears and eyes are all on him.

David Ryan Harris is a find!

by quietasamouse on 2/25/10RED ROOM AT CAFÉ 939 - Boston

Bought tickets to see Greg Laswell at Cafe 939. David Ryan Harris was added to show after we purchased the tickets. How lucky for us! David's music was eclectic, dynamic, and heartfelt. His vocal range was awesome and we loved all his stories in between songs. Very entertaining. Also appreciated that he asked the audience to sit down otherwise we wouldn't have been able to see him! Very intimate and memorable show.

    DRH Rocks!

by RonSantoRules on 2/24/10RED ROOM AT CAFÉ 939 - Boston

Do your self a favor and go see David Ryan Harris solo. Great singe songwriter whom I have followed since his days with Follow For Now and Brand New Immortals. Didn't stick around for Greg Laswell's entire set since I attended mainly to see DRH but he was decent in the 6 songs I stuck around for.

    Greg Laswell Unplugged

by Platypian on 2/10/10RED ROOM AT CAFÉ 939 - Boston

Stripped-down, unplugged, and intimate evening with Greg. Totally different experience than seeing him with a band, but just as emotionally powerful. Great mix of old stuff, recent covers, and new songs coming out on his brand new album dropping in May.
